Introduction: The objective of this single-center study it to retrospectively analyze the relationship between transfusion and 30-day postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing isolated off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
Methods: Perioperative data of 2,178 patients who underwent isolated off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting from 2018 to 2019 were collected. A 1:1 propensity score matching was performed to control for potential biases between patients who received blood transfusion and those who did not.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the main cause of death and disability in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Both the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (Grace) score and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were associated with prognosis in patients with AMI. However, whether the addition of the hs-CRP to Grace risk score could improve the predictive power of Grace risk score on the prognosis of patients with AMI is unclear.

Adrenal vein sampling (AVS) is recommended to be the gold standard for patients with unilateral subtypes of primary aldosteronism to clinical diagnosis and surgery therapy. However, it is uncertain whether AVS is better for prognosis than computed tomography (CT), which is the most widely used. Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched for articles with no start date restriction.

To analyze the effect of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on the long-term prognosis of patients with left main coronary artery disease after revascularization. A total of 1 040 patients with lesions in unprotected left main coronary artery who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) between January 2003 and July 2009 in Beijing An Zhen Hospital were enrolled (CKD group, =240; non CKD group, =800). The mean ages of CKD group and non CKD group were (68.

Introduction: Use of polluting cooking fuels generates household air pollution (HAP) containing health-damaging levels of fine particulate matter (PM). Many global epidemiological studies rely on categorical HAP exposure indicators, which are poor surrogates of measured PM levels. To quantitatively characterize HAP levels on a large scale, a multinational measurement campaign was leveraged to develop household and personal PM exposure models.

Black Carbon (BC) is an important component of household air pollution (HAP) in low- and middle- income countries (LMICs), but levels and drivers of exposure are poorly understood. As part of the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological (PURE) study, we analyzed 48-hour BC measurements for 1187 individual and 2242 household samples from 88 communities in 8 LMICs (Bangladesh, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Pakistan, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe). Light absorbance (10 m) of collected PM filters, a proxy for BC concentrations, was calculated via an image-based reflectance method.

Objectives: Apolipoprotein Cs (apoCs), especially apoC-II and apoC-III, as the components of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins, play a key role in the pathophysiology of diabetes. However, prospective studies examining direct associations between apoCs and diabetes are not reproducible. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of apoCs on the risk of developing diabetes in a middle-aged population, and to explore possible mediators responsible for the relationship between apoCs and diabetes.

The purpose of the study was to investigate whether premenopausal body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) influence age at menopause. A total of 2116 women aged 35-64 years from two communities of the CMCS Beijing cohort were recruited in 1992 and followed up to 2018. Of 1439 premenopausal women at baseline, 6 women data were missing.

Background: Dyskalemia involves critical electrolyte abnormalities and increases mortality risk in patients with acute clinical conditions. However, the association between dyskalemia and adverse outcomes in the general population is less well established.
Objective: To investigate the association of serum potassium levels with mortality and cardiovascular events in the general population and to explore the characteristics of individuals at high risk.

Background: Fetal cardiac rhabdomyoma (CR) is strongly associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), which is caused by variants in TSC1 and TSC2. However, in 10%-15% of patients with clinically confirmed TSC, no TSC1/TSC2 variants are identified by panel sequencing or multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA).
Methods: We analyzed eight fetuses with CR and their families.

Aims: Morphine, a commonly used drug for anesthesia, affects lipid metabolism in different tissues, but the mechanism is currently unclear. Adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) is the rate-limiting enzyme responsible for the first step of triglyceride (TG) hydrolysis. Here we aim to investigate whether ATGL phosphorylation is involved in morphine-induced TG accumulation.

For patients with pacing-induced cardiomyopathy (PICM) who should be treated with pacemaker upgrade, the HPSP is a viable alternative to cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). However, no randomised controlled trial has been performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of HPSP in patients with PICM.

Aging augments postischemic apoptosis via incomplete mechanisms. Our previous animal study suggests that in addition to proapoptotic effects, lncRNAs also exert antiapoptotic effects in cardiomyocytes. However, whether this unexpected phenomenon exists in humans is unknown.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) leads to important vascular abnormalities, including the endothelial dysfunction and the production of endothelial cell adhesion molecules. The adhesion molecules play an important role in the process of endothelial dysfunction in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. We assess the relationship between the levels of adhesion molecules and the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in Chinese adults with moderate to severe OSA.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of berberine on nitroglycerin (NTG) tolerance and explore the underlying mechanism involved.
Methods: NTG tolerance was induced by pre-exposure of Sprague-Dawley rat aortas to NTG in vitro or by pretreating Sprague-Dawley rats with an NTG patch in vivo. The aortas were pre-treated with berberine or PKC inhibitors for different durations of time before induction of NTG tolerance.

Introduction: Left bundle branch area pacing (LBBaP) is a relatively new approach for physiologic pacing. A limited number of retrospective clinical studies, featuring small sample sizes, have shown that compared with right ventricular apex pacing (RVAP), the QRS duration of postoperative ECG in LBBaP patients is narrower and the cardiac systolic function is improved. However, there have been no randomised controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and safety of LBBaP in patients with atrioventricular block (AVB).

Background: There is little consensus on endovascular treatment for symptomatic intracranial posterior circulation stenosis via the transradial approach (TRA). We report our multicenter experience and technical procedures that directly used a distal access catheter (DAC) via TRA for the treatment of symptomatic intracranial vertebral (VA) and basilar (BA) artery stenosis.
Methods: From January 2019 to December 2020, 92 consecutive patients with severe symptomatic intracranial VA or BA stenosis were retrospectively collected and divided into two groups (TRA group and transfemoral approach (TFA) group) for neurointerventional treatment.
