Repair of Cartilage Defects Using ATDC5 Cells Treated with BBR Loaded in Chitosan Hydrogel.

In this study, we explore the cartilage defect repair mechanism by phosphocreatine-grafted chitosan hydrogels loaded with berberine-treated ATDC5 cells (CSMP@BBR@ATDC5). Under the optimal concentrations of LPS and BBR ideal conditions, ATDC5 cell toxicity and proliferation were detected with AM/PI and EdU staining. Additionally, qPCR and Western blot were employed to detect the expression of the SIRT1/BMP4 signaling pathway and chondrogenic-related factors in ATDC5 cells.

Phenotypic subtypes of Xia-Gibbs syndrome: a latent class analysis.

Xia-Gibbs syndrome (XGS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder with considerable clinical heterogeneity. To further characterize the syndrome's heterogeneity, we applied latent class analysis (LCA) on reported cases to identify phenotypic subtypes. By searching PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang databases from inception to February 2024, we enrolled 97 cases with nonsense, frameshift or missense variants in the AHDC1 gene.

The association between placental miRNA and offspring development trajectories has been established, yet the specific role and mechanism thereof in maternal exercise-induced metabolic protection remain elusive.

Health-related quality of life and sexual function among women with overweight or obesity and urinary incontinence: a cross-sectional study.

Purpose: To assess the health related quality of life (HRQoL) and sexual function related to urinary incontinence (UI) severity among women with overweight or obesity.

Methods: From September 2023 to January 2024, a cross-sectional was conducted among women seeking weight loss with overweight or obesity focusing on the symptoms and effects of UI. The degree of UI severity, UI-specific HRQoL, sexual function, and generic HRQoL were detected via Incontinence Modular Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI-SF), Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form (IIQ-7), Short-form Prolapse Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12), and European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions 5-Level questionnaire (EQ-5D-5 L) respectively.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most malignant tumors. Macrophages are abundant in the tumor microenvironment, making them an attractive target for therapeutic intervention. While current immunotherapies, including immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI) and chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells, have shown limited efficacy in pancreatic cancer, a novel approach involving chimeric antigen receptor macrophages (CAR-M) has, although promising, not been explored in pancreatic cancer.

Background: CareHPV is a highly promising screening HPV assay that functions as a simplified and rapid point-of-care test, making it particularly well-suited for low-resource areas. It exhibits high sensitivity for detecting cervical precancerous lesions in cross-sectional study design. However, there is still limited evidence on the long-term protection of careHPV testing in the practical setting.

Artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models like GPT-4o, holds promise for enhancing diagnostic accuracy in healthcare. This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of GPT-4o compared to human ophthalmologists in glaucoma cases. A prospective, observational study was conducted at a tertiary care ophthalmology center.

Chronic inflammation has been recognized as one of the hallmarks of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), Absent In Melanoma 2(AIM2) has emerged as important regulators of chronic inflammatory, and participated in initiation, progression of kinds of human cancers. Nonetheless, the biological functions and underlying mechanisms of AIM2 in HNSCC remain inadequately understood. Based on the bioinformatics analysis of public databases, we identified elevated AIM2 expression in HNSCC, which positively correlates with disease stage and HPV infection, thereby possessing both diagnostic and prognostic significance.

Interpretable multi-modal artificial intelligence model for predicting gastric cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy assessment is imperative for prognostication and clinical management of locally advanced gastric cancer. We propose an incremental supervised contrastive learning model (iSCLM), an interpretable artificial intelligence framework integrating pretreatment CT scans and H&E-stained biopsy images, for improved decision-making regarding neoadjuvant chemotherapy. We have constructed and tested iSCLM using retrospective data from 2,387 patients across 10 medical centers and evaluated its discriminative ability in a prospective cohort (132 patients; ChiCTR2300068917).

[Advances in the Application of Adjuvant Chemotherapy and Targeted Therapy in Postoperative Patients with Stage I Lung Adenocarcinoma].

Lung cancer is one of the main causes of cancer burden and death in China, with nearly 800,000 newly diagnosed lung cancer patients each year, nearly half of whom are lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients. According to current clinical guidelines, surgery is the main treatment for stage I LUAD patients, but the 5-year overall survival rate of stage I LUAD patients alone is still unsatisfactory, about 73%-90%, indicating that a considerable number of patients require other means to improve survival benefits. Chemotherapy and targeted therapy have achieved great success in the treatment of locally advanced and metastatic LUAD patients, but there is still controversy over whether they can benefit stage I LUAD postoperative patients.

Potential impact of organophosphate esters on thyroid eye disease based on machine learning and molecular docking.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widely used as flame retardants and plasticizers in daily commodities and building materials. Some OPEs, acting as agonists of the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR), may contribute to the development of thyroid eye disease (TED). This study analyzes the serum and urine of patients and control groups, using machine learning and molecular docking to investigate the potential impact of OPEs on TED.

The mediating role of life course cognitive reserve-enhancing factors in the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and dementia among older adults: evidence from a prospective cohort study in the United States.

Purpose: To explore the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and incident dementia, and examine the mediating effect of cognitive reserve-enhancing factors from life course perspective. Further, we verified the heterogeneities of associations of ACEs, enhancing factors, and dementia by dementia genetic risk.

Methods: Data was from the US Health and Retirement Study, involving 51,327 observations (50+) with a 10-year follow-up.

The Efficacy of Liposomal Bupivacaine in Thoracic Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Purpose: Patients undergoing thoracic surgery suffer from severe postoperative pain, and a series of complications will occur if there is no effective analgesic treatment. Liposomal bupivacaine (LB) is a novel multivesicular formulation with up to 72 hours of analgesia, which can be used in thoracic surgery. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of LB in improving recovery in patients undergoing thoracic surgery compared with non-liposomal local anesthetics.

Res@LDH: A Novel Nanohybrid Therapeutic for Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury with Dual Reactive Oxygen Species Scavenging Efficiency.

Ischemic stroke poses a global health challenge, necessitating effective therapeutic interventions given the limited time window for thrombolytic therapy. Here, we present Res@LDH, a novel nanohybrid therapeutic agent boasting a dual reactive oxygen species scavenging efficiency of approximately 90%. Comprising Ge-containing layered double hydroxide nanosheets (Ge-LDH) as a drug nanocarrier and resveratrol as a neuroprotective agent, Res@LDH demonstrates enhanced permeability across the blood-brain barrier, ensuring high biocompatibility and stability.

The rising demand for child care is putting a strain on parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), particularly the mothers. This study investigated Chinese mothers of children with ASD and examined the factors associated with maternal mental health. An online national survey was completed by the parents of 5077 ASD children and adolescents aged 0‍‒‍17 years.

Oncogenic KRAS Promotes Ferroptosis in Pancreatic Cancer through Regulation of the FOSL1-TFRC Axis.

Mutant KRAS activation occurs in most of pancreatic cancer (PDAC) which induce the sensitivity to ferroptosis of PDAC cells, but the underlying mechanism is still poorly understood. Here, we show how KRAS acts in signaling to activate transcription factor FOSL1, which promotes the expression of the iron uptake receptor TFRC. In PDAC cells, repression of TFRC by KRAS/FOSL1 signaling inhibited intracellular iron levels, thereby restricting the occurrence of ferroptosis.

Alterations in surface-based amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations primary open-angle glaucoma link to neurotransmitter profiling and visual impairment severity.

The study aimed to examine alterations in surface-based amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), and to investigate their relationships with visual function and molecular profiling. A total of 70 POAG patients and 45 age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) underwent rs-fMRI scans. The differences between POAG and HCs groups were compared by two-sample t-test.
