It is well established that cold storage results in increased resistant starch and a reduced glycemic index in carbohydrate food. However, the effects of cold storage on the glycemic response of the second meal of cereals remain unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the postprandial glycemic responses between the paired glutinous and non-glutinous grains, either fresh-cooked or refrigerated, after both the first and second meals.

The IV subfamily of receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase (RLCK-IV), known as calcium-binding receptor-like cytoplasmic kinases (CRCKs), plays a vital role in plant signal transduction, particularly in coordinating growth and responses to abiotic stresses. However, our comprehension of CRCK genes in , a species characterized as fast-growing and pest-resistant but with drought intolerance, is limited. Here, we identify 6 members of the CRCK subfamily on a genome-wide scale in , denoted as -.

With the intensification of climate change and anthropogenic impacts, the ecological environment in drylands faces serious challenges, underscoring the necessity for regionally adapted ecological quality evaluation. This study evaluates the suitability of the original Remote Sensing Ecological Index (oRSEI), modified RSEI (mRSEI), and adapted RSEI (aRSEI) in a typical dryland region of northern China. Spatio-temporal changes in ecological quality from 2000 to 2022 were analyzed using Theil-Sen median trend analysis, the Mann-Kendall test, and the Hurst exponent.

Introduction: Materials exhibiting a Poisson's ratio of zero have attracted considerable interest due to their unique properties and potential applications in various fields, including aerospace, athletic footwear, and sporting equipment. However, the high costs associated with their structural fabrication and the dependence on synthetic chemical materials for most zero Poisson's ratio materials complicate the preparation processes of current elastic materials, resulting in negative environmental impacts.
Objectives: This study presents a sustainable treatment strategy that utilizes the inherent cellular structure of wood to achieve a zero Poisson's ratio, thereby enhancing its elasticity.

The increasing challenge of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) calls for the development of innovative therapeutic strategies, highlighting the potential of adjunctive immunotherapies that are both cost-effective and safe. Host-directed therapy (HDT) using immunomodulators shows promise in enhancing treatment efficacy by modulating immune responses, thereby shortening the duration of therapy and reducing drug resistance risks. This study investigated the immunomodulatory potential of combining Heat-killed Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (hBCG) with a Squalene-based oil-in-Water Emulsion (SWE) adjuvant against TB.

The treatment of brain diseases has always been the focus of attention. Due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), most small molecule drugs are difficult to reach the brain, leading to undesirable therapeutic outcomes. Recently, nanomedicines that can cross the BBB and precisely target lesion sites have emerged as thrilling tools to enhance the early diagnosis and treat various intractable brain disorders.

Incorporating phase change materials (PCM) into three-dimensional porous network structures could effectively address the leakage problem. In this study, by investigating the effects of different cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) contents on the mechanical and thermal properties of polyethylene glycol (PEG)/CNF/waterborne polyurethane (WPU) phase change foams, a series of leak-proof, lightweight, and stable PEG/CNF/WPU phase change foams were synthesized. Utilizing CNFs as porous support materials could effectively mitigate the leakage of PCMs.

Drug-resistant bacteria infected wounds often bring high risks of delayed healing process and even death. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) can efficiently kill drug-resistant bacteria. However, superabundant reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during SDT inevitably trigger significant inflammatory responses, hindering tissue remodeling.

Synthetic biology (SynBio) plays a pivotal role in improving crop traits and increasing bioproduction by using engineering principles that purposefully modify plants through "design, build, test and learn" cycles, ultimately resulting in improved bioproduction based on input genetic circuit (DNA, RNA, and Proteins). Crop synthetic biology is new tool following circular principles to redesign and create innovative biological components, devices, and systems to enhance yields, nutrient absorption, resilience, and nutritional quality. In the digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) has demonstrated great significance in the design and learning.

Background: Premature ejaculation (PE) is one of the most common diseases in andrology and leads to serious male sexual dysfunction. Although several targeted oral drug therapies are used to treat PE, they often face challenges related to imprecise targeting and adverse effects. Acupuncture has shown potential in prolonging ejaculation time and improving couples' sexual quality of life.

The co-evolution of prokaryotes, phages and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) has driven the diversification of defense and anti-defense systems alike. Anti-defense proteins have diverse functional domains, sequences and are typically small, creating a challenge to detect anti-defense homologs across prokaryotic and phage genomes. To date, no tools comprehensively annotate anti-defense proteins within a desired sequence.

To develop a stable hydrogel drug carrier with excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability and low toxicity, a green biomass-based hydrogel was prepared as a methylene blue (MB) drug carrier model using cellulose and sodium alginate (SA) polysaccharide. The addition of nanocellulose (CNF) and hydrothermally prepared carbon microspheres to the hydrogel network formed by SA undergoing chelation with Ca enhanced the multifaceted properties of the drug carrier. Additionally, the prepared SA-CNFgel could withstand a pressure of 8.

Bacterial biofilms are one of the most relevant drivers of chronic and recurrent infections and a significant healthcare problem. Biofilms were formed by cross-linking of hydrophobic extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), such as proteins, polysaccharides, and eDNA, which were synthesized by bacteria themselves after adhesion and colonization on biological surfaces. They had the characteristics of dense structure and low drug permeability, leading to tolerance and resistance of biofilms to antibiotics and to host responses.

Objective: To investigate the effect of zedoarondiol on neovascularization of atherosclerotic (AS) plaque by exosomes experiment.
Methods: ApoE mice were fed with high-fat diet to establish AS model and treated with high- and low-dose (10, 5 mg/kg daily) of zedoarondiol, respectively. After 14 weeks, the expressions of anti-angiogenic protein thrombospondin 1 (THBS-1) and its receptor CD36 in plaques, as well as platelet activation rate and exosome-derived miR-let-7a were detected.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is extensively studied as a pivotal role in the pathological processes associated with intestinal microecology. In antineoplastic drug treatments, ER stress is implicated in altering the permeability of the mechanical barrier, depleting the chemical barrier, causing dysbiosis, exacerbating immune responses and inflammation in the immune barrier. Enteric dysbiosis and intestinal dysfunction significantly affect the circulatory system in various heart disorders.
