Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of deep learning (DL) based on conventional MRI to differentiate tuberculous spondylitis (TS) from brucellar spondylitis (BS).
Methods: A total of 383 patients with TS (n = 182) or BS (n = 201) were enrolled from April 2013 to May 2023 and randomly divided into training (n = 307) and validation (n = 76) sets. Sagittal T1WI, T2WI, and fat-suppressed (FS) T2WI images were used to construct single-sequence DL models and combined models based on VGG19, VGG16, ResNet18, and DenseNet121 network.

Objective: As the population ages and technology advances, lateral lumbar intervertebral fusion (LLIF) is gaining popularity for the treatment of degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS). This study investigated the feasibility, minimally invasive concept, and benefits of LLIF for the treatment of DLS by observing and assessing the clinical efficacy, imaging changes, and complications following the procedure.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for 52 DLS patients (12 men and 40 women, aged 65.

Existing studies have indicated that noise induces apoptosis and necroptosis in cochlear outer hair cells (OHCs). However, the role of the extrinsic cell death pathway, initiated by death ligands in the cochlea, remains unknown. In this study, we hypothesized that noise could induce the NFAT3/FasL axis-mediated extrinsic death pathway in the cochlea.

As the important factors in coronary artery thrombosis, endothelial injury and M1 macrophage polarization are closely related to the expression of miR-34a-5p. Exosomes in plasma are mainly derived from platelets and play an important role in thrombosis. Based on these facts, this study was conducted to investigate the acting mechanism of platelet-derived exosomes (PLT-exo) in the effects of endothelial injury and M1 macrophage polarization on coronary artery thrombosis.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by cognitive decline. To date, the specific dysfunction in the brain's hierarchical structure in AD remains unclear.
Methods: We introduced the structural decoupling index (SDI), based on a multi-site data set comprising functional and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data from 793 subjects, to assess their brain hierarchy.

Background: The increasing use of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) in the ablation of premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) has raised questions about its true efficacy and safety.
Methods: This retrospective study collected the periprocedural complications and PVC burden post ablation. The risk factors of PVC recurrence was further explored.

Although tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy has markedly improved the survival of people with chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), 20% to 30% of people still experienced therapy failure. Data from 1955 consecutive patients with chronic-phase CML diagnosed by the European LeukemiaNet recommendations from 1 center receiving initial imatinib or a second-generation (2G) TKI therapy were interrogated to develop a clinical prediction model for TKI-therapy failure. This model was subsequently validated in 3454 patients from 76 other centers.

Background: Macitentan, either as monotherapy or part of combination therapy, improved clinical outcomes in patients with pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH) in clinical trials. Evidence on the effectiveness and safety of macitentan administered in real-world clinical practice in China is limited.
Methods: This real-world, retrospective, multicenter chart review study was conducted at seven hospitals in China.

This multicenter retrospective study aimed to develop a novel prognostic system for extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) patients in the era of pegaspargase/L-asparaginase. A total of 844 newly diagnosed ENKTL patients were included. Multivariable analysis confirmed that Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, lactate dehydrogenase, Chinese Southwest Oncology Group and Asia Lymphoma Study Group ENKTL (CA) system, and albumin were independent prognostic factors.

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inherited cardiac disease, and it has obvious genetic and clinical heterogeneity. Recently, heterozygous truncating variants (tv) have been shown to cause HCM. However, the spectrum of variants and their relationships with the clinical characteristics of Chinese patients with HCM remain to be elucidated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting from dysregulated lipid metabolism, constituting the pathophysiological foundation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. AS has a high incidence rate and mortality rate worldwide. As such, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used recently due to its stable therapeutic effect and high safety.

Neuropathic pain is a prevalent form of intermittent chronic pain, affecting approximately 7-10% of the global population. However, the current clinical administration methods, such as injection and oral administration, are mostly one-time administration, which cannot achieve accurate control of pain degree and drug dose. Herein, we developed near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive microneedle patches (MNPs) to spatiotemporally control the drug dose released to treat neuropathic pain according to the onset state.

There are no nationwide surveys on antihypertensive drugs in China. In order to assess the current status of antihypertensive drug therapy in patients with hypertension and analyzed factors that may affect combination therapy, using convenience sampling, we recruited 305,624 patients with hypertension from the Chinese Cardiovascular Association Database-Hypertension Center between January 2019 and December 2021. Chi-squared test was performed to analyze the administered antihypertensive drug types and their combinations in different hospital settings.

Care for patients with peripheral nerve injury is multifaceted, as traditional methods are not devoid of limitations. Although the utilization of neural conduits shows promise as a therapeutic modality for peripheral nerve injury, its efficacy as a standalone intervention is limited. Hence, there is a pressing need to investigate a composite multifunctional neural conduit as an alternative treatment for peripheral nerve injury.

Background: The permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation and pacemaker dependency rates after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are highly variable as some of the conduction disturbances are reversible. It remains poorly investigated how to optimise temporary pacing in these patients. This study aimed to explore the potential reduction in the PPM implantation rate using temporary-permanent pacemaker (TPPM) as a 1-month bridge.
