Micro-sized rubber particles (MRPs), as a significant component of tire wear particles (TWPs), increasingly garnered attention due to the potential ecological risks. However, the impact of photoaging of MRPs and the characteristics of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) derived from MRPs on the photoreactivity of co-existing pollutants is remain unclear. To bridge this knowledge gap, this study selected MRPs with different structure including butadiene rubber (BR), styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) and nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and took tetracycline (TC) as the target pollutant to firstly study potential effects of structural characteristics and active components of MRPs on TC photodegradation process under simulated sunlight irradiation.

A novel "double chemical bonding" electrochemical peptide biosensor 2FcP-GA-GDY(Fe)@NMIL-B was developed for highly selective, ultrasensitive, and ultrastable identification of prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The C-Fe-O chemical bond linking Fe-Graphdiyne (Fe-GDY) with NH-MIL88B(Fe) (NMIL88B) as the first chemical bonding of electrode carrier Fe-GDY@NH-MIL88B(Fe) (GDY(Fe)@NMIL) significantly accelerates electron transport. With glutaraldehyde (GA) as a crosslinking agent, the Schiff-base -NC- formed by GDY(Fe)@NMIL nanocomposites links the two Fc molecules labeled peptides (2FcP) as the second chemical bonding, facilitating high-density attachment of peptides to the electrode carrier in a firm manner.

Considering that heavy-metal contamination of seawater is getting worse, building a quick, accurate and portable device for detecting trace zinc in seawater in real time would be very beneficial. In this work, a microfluidic system was developed that includes a planar disc electrode, a micro-cavity for detection, an electrochemical workstation, a computer, a container for waste liquid reprocessing, an external pipeline and other components as well as a graphene/cerium oxide/nano-cerium oxide/Nafion composite membrane was used to modify the planar disc electrode (GR/CeO/Nafion/Au) to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of Zn(II) using cyclic voltammetry, square-wave voltammetry and orthogonal test methods. Under optimal experimental conditions, the peak reaction current of Zn(II) showed a good linear relationship with the concentration of Zn(II) in the range of 1-900 μg/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.

This study analyzed flower bud differentiation and fruiting stages to investigate how the structure of the plant endophytic microbial community in the roots of tomatoes changes with plant senescence. Based on high-throughput sequencing technology, the diversity and relative abundance of endophytic microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) in tomato stems at different growth stages were analyzed. At the same time, based on LEfSe analysis, the differences in endophytic microorganisms in tomato stems at different growth stages were studied.

The intestine of living organisms harbors different microbiota associated with the biological functioning and health of the host and influences the process of ecological adaptation. Here, we studied the intestinal microbiota's composition and functional differences using 16S rRNA and metagenomic analysis in the wild, farm, and released Chinese three-keeled pond turtle (). At the phylum level, Bacteroidota dominated, followed by Firmicutes, Fusobacteriota, and Actinobacteriota in the wild group, but Chloroflexi was more abundant in the farm and released groups.

The ubiquitous presence of plastic particles in water bodies poses a potential threat to aquatic species. Although numerous adverse effects of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have been documented, their effects on fish feeding, one of the most important behaviors of animals, are far from being fully understood. In this study, the effects of MPs and NPs (at environmentally realistic levels) on fish food consumption and feeding behavior were assessed using goldfish (Carassius auratus) and polystyrene (PS) particles as representatives.

The precise combination of conflicting biological properties through sophisticated structural and functional design to meet all the requirements of anastomotic healing is of great demand but remains challenging. Here, we develop a smart responsive anastomotic staple (Ti-OH-MC) by integrating porous titanium anastomotic staple with multifunctional polytannic acid/tannic acid coating. This design achieves dynamic sequential regulation of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and cell proliferation properties.

Mitochondria are the energy factories of cells and are important targets for the development of novel tumour treatment strategies owing to their involvement in processes such as apoptosis, oxidative stress, and metabolic programming. Thiosemicarbazone metal complexes target mitochondria and reduce mitochondrial membrane potential. The breakdown of mitochondrial membrane potential is a key event in the early stage of apoptosis, which releases cytochrome C and other pro-apoptotic factors, activates the intracellular apoptotic enzyme cascade, and eventually causes irreversible apoptosis of tumour cells.

Many researchers have evaluated the fishery carbon sink potential of bivalve aquaculture, with most studies focusing on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of individual bivalves, and there is currently no consensus on whether bivalves are carbon sinks or carbon sources. It is worth noting that most studies have not considered the impact of bivalve aquaculture on ecosystems when evaluating its carbon sink potential. In this context, based on existing literature, this article aims to comprehensively review the effects of bivalve aquaculture on carbon storage in the water column and sediment of aquaculture areas.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic, spontaneous inflammatory bowel disease that primarily affects the colon. This study aimed to explore how Porphyra haitanensis porphyran (PHP) modulates the immune response and the associated mechanisms that alleviate dextran sulphate sodium-induced colitis in mice. Histological assessments via H&E staining and AB-PAS staining revealed that PHP intervention partially restored the number of goblet cells and improved intestinal mucosal function.

Fusarium oxysporum and Botrytis cinerea are the main pathogens that cause fruit decay and reduce the postharvest shelf life of cherry tomatoes. Boosting the potency of natural products requires implementing structural modification to combat postharvest pathogens. Herein, we developed a novel Vanillin-Deep Eutectic Agent (V-DEA) from natural compounds and evaluated its effectiveness against tomato fruit rot pathogens.

With the development of new synthetic methods, 2-vinylfuran (V2F) has become a potential renewable biofuel. In this work, the potential energy surfaces for the V2F unimolecular dissociation reaction, the H-addition reaction, and the H-abstraction reaction were constructed at the G4 level. The temperature- and pressure-dependent rate constants for the relevant reactions on the potential energy surfaces were calculated by solving the master equation based on the transition state theory and Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus theory.
