CD19-targeted chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy has led to unprecedented rates of complete remission (CR) in children and adults with relapsed/refractory (r/r) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), yet the majority of adults relapse after initial response. One proposed method to extend the durability of remission in adults following response to CAR-T therapy is consolidation with allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT). Considering the limited published data for the utility of post CAR-T therapy consolidative alloHCT in r/r B-ALL, especially data related to patients receiving a second alloHCT, we sought to describe outcomes of patients with r/r B-ALL at our institution who received their first or second alloHCT following response to CAR-T therapy.

Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) are linked to the onset and progression of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), thus representing potential disease biomarkers. In this study, we employed a multiplatform sequencing approach to analyze circulating miRNAs in an extended cohort of prospectively evaluated recent-onset T1DM individuals from the INNODIA consortium. Our findings reveal that a set of miRNAs located within T1DM susceptibility chromosomal locus 14q32 distinguishes two subgroups of individuals.

Exposure to radiation oncology (RO), which is a small and highly subspecialized field of oncology, during undergraduate or medical education is often limited. Coupled with reduced elective exposures during the COVID-19 pandemic, unsubstantiated concerns regarding the RO job market have led to a noticeable decline in residency applications and medical students who express an interest in the field. Here, we describe a summer education program piloted in our RO department at a comprehensive cancer center to provide premedical school students (ranging from high school to postbaccalaureate) early exposure to the specialty through clinical shadowing, research opportunities, journal club, and formal didactic lectures.

Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) offers a potential cure in Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL); nonetheless, relapses are common and the major cause of mortality. One strategy to prevent relapse is tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) maintenance post-HCT, but published clinical experience is primarily with the first-generation TKI imatinib while data with newer generation TKIs are limited.
