Method: This descriptive study, based in North Carolina in the USA, used content analysis with an inductive approach to examine the responses of nurses to one open-ended question in a large quantitative workforce survey: how has COVID-19 influenced your plans for future education? Responses were coded with counts and organised into themes and subthemes.

Driven by the proliferation of digital technology and the adoption of online medical records in the healthcare industry, this study aims to answer the question: How does the digitalization of medical records and communication influence people with hearing impairments' communication with healthcare providers? The research utilizes data from the National Cancer Institute's Health Information National Trends Survey to investigate the potential benefits of electronic health information exchange and online medical records in facilitating communication between individuals with hearing impairments and healthcare providers. The results of our study indicate that there is a negative association between hearing impairment and how individuals evaluate the quality of communication when interacting with healthcare providers. Our research indicates that utilizing online medical records and exchanging health information electronically has a beneficial effect on mitigating the adverse correlation between hard of hearing status and the perceived quality of communication with healthcare professionals.

Purpose: Speech-language pathology programs use simulated learning experiences (SLEs) to teach graduate student clinicians about fidelity to therapeutic interventions, including static skills (clinical actions that are delivered in a prespecified way regardless of the client's behavior) and dynamic skills (contingent responses formulated in response to a client's behavior). The purpose of this study was to explore student learning of static and dynamic skills throughout SLEs and live clinical practice.
Method: Thirty-three speech-language pathology graduate students participated in this study.

Purpose: Graduate programs often use practicum experience with clients from nonmajority cultures to improve students' cultural responsiveness. Yet, it is not clear whether simply working with a client from a nonmajority culture actually confers this benefit or whether students are thinking about how to include culturally responsive behaviors when they are considering how to address a clinical case.
Method: Twenty first-year speech-language pathology graduate students (10 Spanish-English bilinguals, 10 monolingual English speakers) were split into three groups: monolingual experimental ( 4), bilingual experimental ( 4), and control ( 12).

Purpose: The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic led health care systems and providers worldwide to rapidly adopt telehealth solutions to minimize risk and comply with isolation mandates. This article explores telehealth utilization trends in North Carolina (NC) free and charitable clinics-an ambulatory health care delivery setting where traditional third-party reimbursement policies are not a primary consideration.
Methods: We surveyed NC free and charitable clinic administrators regarding clinic decisions to adopt an externally sponsored telehealth system, what services are provided by telehealth, clinic implementation processes, which populations used telehealth, how telehealth was incorporated into current clinic workflows, and perceptions of telehealth outcomes.

Background: Cervical cancer (CC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and breast cancer (BC) are diseases that can be prevented/detected through early test. Through educational programs, individuals can become better informed about these cancers and understand the importance of screening and early detection. However, many people, especially low-income, low-educated, uninsured minority population groups, do not have their cancer screenings at the recommended intervals and do not receive appropriate and timely follow-up of abnormal screening results or timely treatment after diagnosis.

To our knowledge, this is the first epidemiologic study to examine the association between physical activity (PA) and cancer using data from the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA). The goal of the study was to understand the dose-response relation between PA and cancer, as well as the associations between meeting US PA guidelines and overall cancer risk in US college students. The ACHA-NCHA provided self-reported information on demographic characteristics, PA, body mass index, smoking status, and overall cancer during 2019-2022 (n = 293,682; 0.

The first epidemiologic study was conducted to prospectively examine the association between Food Environment Index (FEI) and gastric cancer (GC) risk in the US. Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results provided information on GC incident cases diagnosed between 2000 and 2015 from 16 population-based cancer registries across the US. The county-level food environment was assessed using the FEI, an indicator of access to healthy foods (0 is worst, 10 is best).

Health care practices to prepare older adults and their family caregivers for transitions from home health care (HHC) to independence at home are rarely studied. The objective of this multiple case study was to describe HHC patient and clinician perceptions of unmet needs after HHC discharge and recommendations to address them in future research. In this qualitative study, data were collected using chart-reviews and semi-structured interviews with paired patients (or caregivers as proxy) and HHC clinicians (N=17 pairs).

Purpose: Two disparate models drive American speech-language pathologists' views of evidence-based practice (EBP): the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (2004a, 2004b) and Dollaghan's (2007). These models discuss evidence derived from clinical practice but differ in the terms used, the definitions, and discussions of its role. These concepts, which we unify as , are an important part of EBP but lack consistent terminology and clear definitions in the literature.

Many studies include functional swallowing ability and quality of life information to indicate a response to a specific swallowing intervention or to describe the natural history of dysphagia across diseases and conditions. Study results are difficult to interpret because the association between these factors and actual swallowing impairment is not understood. We set out to test the associations between components of physiologic swallowing impairment, functional swallowing ability, and swallow-specific quality of life using standardized and validated measurement tools: Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP), Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10), and Dysphagia Handicap Index (DHI).
