Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third-leading cause of cardiovascular mortality, accounting for 100,000 deaths per year in the United States. Although sex-based disparities have previously been described in this population, it is unclear if these differences have persisted with the expansion of PE evaluation and treatment approaches. The purpose of this study is to investigate sex-based differences in the evaluation, management, and outcomes of patients with acute PE.

Objective: The objective of this study is to determine if the use of an innovative dressing change kit reduces the rate of unscheduled dressing changes.
Methods: This pre-post interventional study took place at a large, academic, tertiary care center in metro Detroit, Michigan, the United States.

Background: Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer mortality among women in Kenya due to late presentations, poor access to health care, and limited resources. Across many low- and middle-income countries infrastructure and human resources for cervical cancer management are currently insufficient to meet the high population needs therefore patients are not able to get appropriate treatment.
Objective: This study aimed to describe the clinicopathological characteristics and the treatment profiles of cervical cancer cases seen at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

This cross-sectional analysis of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) fellowship program websites in the United States assesses their comprehensiveness based on 43 variables commonly sought by applicants. The study found that 30% of programs had a direct link to the PRM fellowship page, with limited information on criteria such as education resources, research stipend, mentorship opportunities, and fellow wellness. The results underscore the need for improved accessibility, content expansion, and yearly link maintenance.

We present a case of a woman in her early 60s with multiple myeloma who, while undergoing treatment with cyclophosphamide, bortezomib and dexamethasone (CyBorD), noticed a whitish nodular swelling on the eyelid. This occurred after one cycle of CyBorD and on subsequent treatment, it also involved the contralateral eyelid. The lesions were initially managed with conservative measures by applying warm compresses, but the lesions progressively increased in size.

Background: The purpose of this study was to estimate the cumulative risks of all cancers in women from 50 to 75 years of age with a BRCA1 or BRCA2 pathogenic variant.
Methods: Participants were women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 pathogenic variants from 85 centers in 16 countries. Women were eligible if they had no cancer before the age of 50 years.

Objectives: This clinical study evaluated the efficacy of a novel radiation shielding system for the cardiac catheterization laboratory designed to provide comprehensive protection that obviates the need for personal lead aprons.
Background: Invasive Cardiologists are exposed to occupational health hazards related directly to radiation exposure (RE) and indirectly to the orthopedic burden of wearing only partially protective lead aprons. Innovations to reduce these risks are warranted.

Background: The main pediatric (0-18 years) gynecologic cancers include stromal carcinomas (juvenile granulosa cell tumors and Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors), genital rhabdomyosarcomas and ovarian germ cell. Outcomes depend on time of diagnosis, stage, tumor type and treatment which can have long-term effects on the reproductive career of these patients. This study seeks to analyze the trends in clinical-pathologic presentation, treatment and outcomes in the cases seen at our facility.

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is understood as a syndrome that presents with the common phenotype of sudden death but involves heterogenous biological causes. Many pathological findings have been consistently reported in SIDS, notably in areas of the brain known to play a role in autonomic control and arousal. Our laboratory has reported abnormalities in SIDS cases in medullary serotonin (5-HT) receptor and within the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus.

Introduction: Patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) can experience rapid disease progression between initial staging FDG-PET scans and commencement of curative-intent radiotherapy (RT). Previous studies that estimated stage migration rates by comparing staging PET/CT and treatment-planning PET/CT images were limited by small sample sizes.
Methods: This multicenter, international study combined prospective data from five institutions for PET-staged patients with NSCLC who were intended to receive curative-intent RT.
Background: Accurate identification of the tumor bed after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) ensures appropriate radiation to the tumor bed while minimizing normal tissue exposure. The BioZorb three-dimensional (3D) bioabsorbable tissue marker provides a reliable target for radiation therapy (RT) planning and follow-up evaluation while serving as a scaffold to maintain breast contour.
Methods: After informed consent, 818 patients (826 breasts) implanted with the BioZorb at 14 U.

Management of pyoderma gangrenosum in established malignancy is challenging. When vital structures are at risk from ulceration, aggressive management is required; however, immunosuppressive therapy may compromise the prognosis for an underlying malignancy. The optimal management of pyoderma gangrenosum in this setting is unclear.

Background: We sought to study the feasibility of establishing a comprehensive, mostly self-directed yoga program in a hospital and its dose-effect relationship on cardiovascular risk factors and quality of life (QoL) measures over six months.
Methods: Yoga-based techniques (Advanced Yoga Practices; AYP; advancedyogapractices.com) were taught in 12 biweekly group sessions and self-directed practice at home was emphasized.

2 Endocrine Surgery Research Program, Department of Surgery, Pritzker School of Medicine, The University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois.
Background: The prevalence of thyroid cancer survivors is rising rapidly due to the combination of an increasing incidence, high survival rates, and a young age at diagnosis. The physical and psychosocial morbidity of thyroid cancer has not been adequately described, and this study therefore sought to improve the understanding of the impact of thyroid cancer on quality of life (QoL) by conducting a large-scale survivorship study.
Methods: Thyroid cancer survivors were recruited from a multicenter collaborative network of clinics, national survivorship groups, and social media.

Objectives: To establish current radiation dose levels with contemporary scanners capable of prospectively triggered or high-pitch spiral scan modes to previous generation scanners among patients evaluated for coronary artery disease, pulmonary embolism, aortic disease, and "triple rule out" in a large population of patients at multiple centers.
Background: Previous small-scale studies with carefully controlled scan protocols report that CT scanners that facilitate prospectively triggered scanning and provide high-pitch spiral CT scan modes drastically lower radiation doses. However, diagnostic reference levels should be selected by medical bodies on the basis of large surveys of representative sites and reviewed at appropriate time intervals.

A 49-year-old man underwent emergent coronary angiography for acute inferior myocardial infarction (MI). After balloon angioplasty of culprit right coronary artery (RCA) occlusion, a Promus Element stent would not advance to the target lesion. The proximal end of the stent became compressed against the tip of the guiding catheter, such that the stent could neither be advanced nor withdrawn.

Background: Evidence-based guidelines recommend mediastinal sampling as the first invasive test in patients with suspected lung cancer and mediastinal adenopathy. The goal of this study was to assess practice patterns and outcomes of diagnostic strategies in this patient population.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients in 2009 who had mediastinal adenopathy without distant metastatic disease to determine whether guideline-consistent care was delivered.

Extended-release oral and transdermal opioids are increasingly being used for the management of chronic pain. Although the dosing intervals for these products were established through controlled clinical trials, expanded use of extended-release and transdermal dosage forms has resulted in awareness that a significant number of patients with chronic pain experience loss of baseline pain control prior to the next scheduled dose. End-of-dose failure (EDF) is the term used to describe this type of pain manifestation.
