The aim of the study was to assess whether current guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in daily clinical practice are adequately applied in the Belgrade Emergency Medical Service (EMS). A retrospective research included 2,982 STEMI patients who were cared for by EMS teams. Therapy consisting of morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin and aspirin (MONA) was applied.

Introduction: Basal insulin analogues offer persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) adequate glycemic control combined with a favorable safety profile. BASAL-BALI-a prospective, noninterventional, multicenter disease registry-assessed the effectiveness and safety of basal insulin analogues in adult Serbians with T2DM previously inadequately controlled on other insulin types.
Methods: The primary objective was to assess the reduction in glycated hemoglobin (HbA) from basal insulin analogue initiation to the end of a 6-month observation period.

Objectives: The presence of anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB antibodies has been linked with autoimmunity in general and with several autoimmune diseases (AID) in particular. In the current study we evaluated these antibodies in a wide spectrum of AID as well as the links between them and anti-infectious antibodies.
Methods: We examined 2082 sera from patients with 16 different AID compared to 524 sera from geographically-matched healthy controls, for the presence and titres of anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB.

Cardiovascular and neurological manifestations are known to occur in patients with autoimmune rheumatic disease (ARD), often in subclinical form. The term autonomic nervous system (ANS) describes nerves that are concerned predominantly with the regulation of bodily functions. It is comprised of sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, and their function is complementary.

The etiology of autoimmune diseases is multifactorial: genetic, environmental, hormonal, and immunological factors are all considered important in their development. Nevertheless, the onset of at least 50% of autoimmune disorders has been attributed to "unknown trigger factors". Physical and psychological stress has been implicated in the development of autoimmune disease, since numerous animal and human studies demonstrated the effect of sundry stressors on immune function.

Psychiatric abnormalities are common in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with a prevalence of 17% to 75%, reflecting different methods of patient selection and assessment, the different professional orientation of clinicians, and lack of an accepted consensus for diagnosing active neuropsychiatric lupus (NPSLE). The psychiatric syndromes included in the ACR Neuropsychiatric Lupus Nomenclature Committee criteria are cognitive dysfunction, acute confusional state (delirium), anxiety disorder, mood disorder, and psychosis. In SLE patients, identification of psychiatric phenomena and the generation of a differential diagnosis are crucial.

We performed cardiovascular ANS assessment in 125 patients with autoimmune diseases in this case-control study, including 54 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 39 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), 20 with primary Sjbgren syndrome (pSS), eight patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PR), four patients with scleroderma (Ssc) and 35 healthy control subjects. The control group was formed to approximately match the mean age of SLE, RA and pSS patients; controls did not differ significantly by gender from the autoimmune pations.

The role of influenza vaccination in patients suffering from autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), has long been a subject of discussion. The risk of exacerbation of the main disease following vaccination is of particular concern, and needs to be carefully evaluated against the risk of disease flares as a result of infections. Our study included 69 SLE patients and 54 RA patients, all in stable condition.
