We previously reported an ability of low-intensity vibration (LIV) to improve selected biomarkers of bone turnover and gene expression and reduce osteoclastogenesis but lacking of evident bone accrual. In this study, we demonstrate that a prolonged course of LIV that initiated at 2 weeks post-injury and continued for 8 weeks can protect against bone loss after SCI in rats. LIV stimulates bone formation and improves osteoblast differentiation potential of bone marrow stromal stem cells while inhibiting osteoclast differentiation potential of marrow hematopoietic progenitors to reduce bone resorption.

Although there are two distinct processes of bone formation, intramembranous and endochondral ossifications contributing to the formation of calvarial and long bones, it is not clear whether the distinct pathways determine the differences between calvaria and femoral cortical bone derived osteocytes. Oxaliplatin (OXP), a third-generation platinum-based chemotherapy drug, was often indirectly analyzed via total platinum by an ICP-MS because it was difficult to directly quantify using an LC-MS/MS method, due to its instability, bad column separability and severe MS signal inhibition. Here, we developed and validated a specific, sensitive and reproducible LC-MS/MS method for the quantification of OXP itself in rat plasma and tongue tissue on a SCIEX 4000 QTRAP MS/MS system equipped with a Phenomenex Lux 5u Cellulose-1 column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm).

Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in marked atrophy of sublesional skeletal muscle and substantial loss of bone. In this study, the effects of prolonged electrical stimulation (ES) and/or testosterone enanthate (TE) on muscle mass and bone formation in a rat model of SCI were tested. Compared to sham-transected animals, a significant reduction of the mass of soleus, plantaris and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles was observed in animals 6 weeks post-SCI.

Introduction: This prospective cohort study aimed to evaluate canine substitution supported by skeletal anchorage as a viable treatment protocol for patients with maxillary lateral incisor agenesis (MLIA) and skeletal Class I or Class III.

Methods: Patients (n = 30) who met the following criteria were recruited: (1) bilateral MLIA or unilateral MLIA with a riziform contralateral incisor with a planned extraction; (2) skeletal Class I or Class III; and (3) dentoalveolar discrepancy in the mandible <5 mm. The archwire sequence routine was administered, combined with a rapid palatal expander, temporary intraoral skeletal anchorage device, and intermaxillary traction with Class III elastics.

Methodology: Seventy mandibular molars with C-shaped canals were scanned, matched and assigned to two shaping groups (n = 35): RB and XP-S. Following instrumentation, specimens were triple-matched with respect to the amount of remaining debris and assigned to three irrigation subgroups (n = 10): syringe-and-needle irrigation (SNI), XP-endo Finisher (XP-F; FKG Dentaire) and passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI).

This retrospective cohort study aimed to assess, three-dimensionally, mandible and maxilla changes following maxillomandibular advancement (MMA), with and without repositioning of TMJ articular discs. Methods: Nociception following bilateral temporomandibular joint (TMJ) injection of high-dose of Complete Freunds Adjuvant (CFA, 250 μg/50 μL per side) could be detected in young adult male Sprague-Dawley rats using average daily meal durations as a measure of nociception for up to 19 days (Kramer, Kerins, Schneiderman, & Bellinger, 2010) using ANOVA and multiple comparisons range tests. In this study, we reanalyzed the data using a non-parametric permutation procedure based on absolute differences between intra-meal feeding rate curves.
