Trephination and silicone tube intubation in the treatment of canalicular obstruction.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of trephination and monocanalicular/bicanalicular silicone tube use depending on the number of affected canaliculi in patients with canalicular obstruction.

Methods: This retrospective study included 46 eyes of 36 patients who underwent trephination and silicone tube intubation performed by a single experienced oculoplastic surgeon due to canalicular obstruction between 2005 and 2020. Monocanalicular silicone tube was applied to patients with one canalicular obstruction, and bicanalicular silicone tube was applied to those with the upper and lower canalicular involvement of the same eye.

Betatrophin Levels Are Related to the Early Histological Findings in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.

Betatrophin, a liver hormone, regulates glucose and lipid metabolism. We investigated the betatrophin levels in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and searched for any relationship with histological severity and metabolic parameters. Fifty males with NAFLD [Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) (n = 32); non-NASH (n = 18)] and 30 healthy controls were included.

The significance of primary monocanalicular silicone tube intubation in late surgical treatment in children.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of monocanalicular silicone tube intubation outcomes as an initial surgical treatment in children older than 1 year old with primary nasolacrimal obstruction.

Methods: Probing or monocanalicular silicone tube intubation was performed as primary surgical treatment on 12-48 months old children with primary nasolacrimal obstruction. Probing was performed on 53 eyes of 43 patients and silicone tube intubation on 45 eyes of 39 patients.

Cut-Off Values of Foveal Vascular Indices in Exfoliation Glaucoma.

Purpose: To compare the vascular measurements obtained from fovea including foveal avascular zone (FAZ) with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) between patients with exfoliation glaucoma (XFG) and healthy controls.

Methods: This cross-sectional comparative study included 54 XFG patients and 94 healthy subjects. All subjects were given a complete ophthalmological examination including visual field testing, retinal nerve fiber layer and macular ganglion cell complex analysis.

Microvesicular steatosis: a missed item in the management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease?

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is among the most common causes of chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. In NAFLD, histological course of steatosis is usually macrovesicular (MacroS), but it may be accompanied by varying degrees of microvesicular steatosis (MicroS). Thus, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the prevalence and significance of MicroS in subjects with NAFLD.
