The prevalence of various diseases, including osteoarticular conditions, is increasing as the world's population ages. These disorders lead to degeneration of bones and joints, diminishing the quality of life of the geriatric population and imposing a significant economic burden on healthcare systems. The aim of the present study is to sterilize nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) loaded with vascular endothelial growth factor 165 (VEGF165) and platelet-derived growth factorBB (PDGF-BB) without compromising their properties to improve osteoarticular disease prognosis.

This paper compares the performance of autistic and neurotypical participants in discourse-completion tasks that require the identification of two types of particularised conversational implicature. Material implicatures are those in which the inferential relationship from what is said to the implicature can be reconstructed without recourse to descriptions of the speaker's behaviour and the reasons underlying it, while behavioural implicatures do require such descriptions. We hypothesised that autistic participants would perform on a par with neurotypical participants in the material cases, but less well than neurotypicals in the behavioural cases, given that the latter make greater demands on theory of mind.

Cultured organotypic hippocampal slices (hOTCs) have become increasingly popular as a model for studying brain function. This model offers significant advantages over traditional in vitro methods, as they allow the examination of mid to long-term manipulations while preserving the structure of the dentate gyrus (DG) in the hippocampus. In this chapter, we focus on a protocol based on hOTCs of mouse entorhinal cortex and hippocampus, which by integrating techniques such as retroviral injections, immunohistochemistry, and microscopy imaging, physiological or pathological processes can be easily investigated.

This research introduces innovative tools for studying embryonic neurogenesis in the gecko Paroedura picta. Traditional research methods have been adapted for the gecko's unique biology, including variations of birthdating techniques and the implementation of EdU for tracking neuron generation. We also employ hybridization chain reaction (HCR) to detect specific mRNAs without the need for species-specific antibodies, providing a powerful and flexible tool for studying gene expression patterns in the gecko embryonic brain.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a key role in regulating gene expression in Crohn's disease (CD). Although several studies have identified miRNAs with biomarker potential, an exhaustive characterization of the miRNAome in CD is still lacking. We performed the largest miRNA profiling effort to date to analyze miRNA variability across intestinal tissues, disease activity status, and infliximab treatment in CD.

The chemical and structural flexibility of hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites (HOIPs) provides an ideal platform for engineering not only their well-studied optical properties, but also their magnetic ones. In this review we present HOIPs from a new perspective, turning the attention to their magnetic properties and their potential as a new class of on-demand low-dimensional magnetic materials. Focusing on HOIPs containing transition metals, we comprehensively present the progress that has been made in preparing, understanding and exploring magnetic HOIPs.

Background/aims: Chemical burns to the eye cause extensive ocular surface damage, often resulting in permanent visual impairment. The amniotic membrane (AM), with its regenerative properties, has shown great potential in treating such injuries. Recent innovations, including hydrogel-based delivery systems, have been developed to improve drug retention and promote corneal healing.

Background: The outcomes of transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) for pituitary adenoma (PA) depend on many factors, including the availability of an expert team and the volume of surgeries performed. Data on the outcomes of TSS for PA are scarce in our country. TESSPAIN evaluates TSS outcomes in Spanish centers to assess the influence of surgical volume and specialized neurosurgical teams on success and complication rates.

The treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) has been rapidly evolving over the last two decades. The advent of new androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) such as abiraterone acetate or enzalutamide marks a great advance for treating mCRPC patientd in the pre- and post-docetaxel settings. The subsequent approval of ARPIs in early stages-i.

Statement Of Problem: The seal at the implant-abutment connection (IAC) is crucial for ensuring implant-prosthetic function and reducing the risk of peri-implant diseases. An accurate determination of the first IAC gap under realistic dynamic-loading conditions is needed to investigate current and future IAC designs.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to use a novel method of determining the load and probability of occurrence of the elastic first IAC gap that overcomes most of the limitations of the representative IACs currently available.

Bilastine is a non-sedating, highly selective H1-antihistamine with proven efficacy and safety in treating allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and urticaria in adults and children. Allergic conjunctivitis, a common ocular condition, negatively impacts quality of life. Topical eye drops are the standard treatment, though ocular bioavailability is often low.

The design of smart photoelectrodes capable of stimulating the localized production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on demand is of great interest for redox medicine therapies. In this work, poly(3-hexylthiophene) semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (P3HT SPNs) are used with a dual role to fabricate light-responsive hydrogels. First, P3HT SPNs act as visible-light photoinitiators to induce the photopolymerization of acrylic monomers such as acrylamide (AAm), 2-(hydroxyethyl) acrylate (HEA), and poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA).

Laboratory of Local Translation in Neurons and Glia, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, Leioa, Spain.
The synaptic proteome can be shaped by proteins transported from the neuronal soma and/or by mRNAs that are delivered to synapses where proteins are locally synthesized. This last mechanism is known as local translation. Local translation has been extensively studied in neurons in physiological conditions and, more recently, in neurological disorders, in which local transcriptomes and translatomes become dysregulated.

Aims: Dicarbonyl compounds such as methylglyoxal (MGO), glyoxal (GO), and 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG) are present in numerous foods. They are pro-inflammatory and pro-oxidative, but their potential role in cardiovascular disease (CVD) development has been scarcely studied. We explored associations between dietary dicarbonyls with fatal and non-fatal CVD.

Therapeutic biomacromolecules such as genetic material, antibodies, growth factors and enzymes represent a novel therapeutic alternative for neurological diseases and disorders. In comparison to traditional therapeutics, which are mainly based on small molecular weight drugs that address the symptoms of these disorders, therapeutic biomacromolecules can reduce undesired side effects and target specific pathological pathways, thus paving the way towards personalized medicine. However, these biomacromolecules undergo degradation/denaturation processes in the physiological environment and show poor capacity to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB).
