Article Synopsis
  • This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates whether varicocele repair (VR) can lower sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) and seminal oxidative stress (measured by malondialdehyde or MDA) in infertile men.
  • An analysis of 29 studies involving 1,491 men shows a significant reduction in SDF post-VR, regardless of the surgical technique used and the method of SDF testing.
  • The findings also indicate a notable decrease in seminal MDA levels following VR, supporting the effectiveness of varicocele repair in improving reproductive parameters in affected men.

Background And Objectives: We explored the prognostic usefulness of the pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) in patients with stage IIIB/C non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT).

Methods And Patients: For all patients, the PIV was calculated using platelet (P), monocyte (M), neutrophil (N), and lymphocyte (L) measures obtained on the first day of CCRT: PIV = P × M × N ÷ L. Using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, we searched for the existence of an ideal cutoff that may partition patients into two groups with unique progression-free- (PFS) and overall survival (OS) results.

Article Synopsis
  • C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) is a kidney disease influenced by genetic factors, and this study explores the differences in clinical outcomes among pediatric patients with and without mutations in complement-related genes.
  • Among 60 patients studied, 17 had genetic mutations with the CFH gene being the most common; those with mutations typically showed asymptomatic urinary issues and were diagnosed at an older age.
  • Despite differences in presentation, both groups had similar long-term kidney survival and response to mycophenolate mofetil treatment, indicating that genetic mutations may not significantly impact treatment outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a condition that affects many kids in developing countries like Turkey, and it can lead to kidney problems known as chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • A study in Turkey looked at children with MMC to find out how many had different stages of CKD and what factors made their kidney health worse.
  • The results showed that 5.3% of the kids had CKD stage 5, and certain medical conditions were linked to an increased risk of serious kidney problems. To help these kids, doctors suggest taking early action in managing their bladder issues to prevent kidney failure.

Article Synopsis
  • Lumbar disk herniation (LDH) often causes chronic low back pain (CLBP), and this study aimed to assess the effectiveness of ultrasound (US) and short wave diathermy (SWD) treatments in physical therapy for patients experiencing CLBP due to LDH.
  • A randomized control trial included three treatment groups: two groups received either US or SWD in addition to standard therapies, while a control group only received standard therapies.
  • Results showed significant improvements in pain and disability scores across all groups, with deeper heating treatments (US and SWD) contributing to continued benefits in physical and emotional well-being over time.
