Second-Line Chemotherapy in Gastric Cancer: a Retrospective Study.

Second-line chemotherapy is recommended for patients who have disease progression after first-line chemotherapy and have a good performance status. The aim of our study is thus to determine which chemotherapy regimen is more appropriate for second-line gastric cancer treatment. Patients were included if they met the following inclusion criteria: metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma pathology; no previous treatment for local gastric cancer (surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy); received first-line chemotherapy for metastatic gastric cancer and had the disease progress afterward; had adequate organ functions for second-line chemotherapy; had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score 0-2; and were HER-2 negative.

Morphometric analysis of the infratemporal fossa using three-dimensional (3D) digital models.

Purpose: The infratemporal fossa contains important neurovascular components and is directly related to other anatomical regions and structures. The morphometric distances between the bones forming its borders have not been thoroughly investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the morphometry of the infratemporal fossa.

Does posterior approach always lead to poor functional and cosmetic outcomes in displaced pediatric supracondylar humeral fractures?

Background: Supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHFs) are the most common types of elbow fractures in children. Closed reduction percutaneous pinning (CRPP) is the primary surgical treatment of SCHFs. In cases that cannot be managed with closed reduction, treatment with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) is necessary.

Effect of Ozone Therapy on Epidural Fibrosis in Rats.

Objective: To demonstrate the effect of medical ozone therapy on the development of epidural fibrosis.

Methods: A total of 25 Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: a control group (L3-L4 laminectomy only), a systemic ozone therapy (SOT) group (L3-L4 laminectomy only + intraperitoneal 15 mL [30 μg/mL] ozone), and a local ozone therapy (LOT) group (L3-L4 laminectomy only + subcutaneous 15 mL [30 μg/mL] ozone). Ozone therapy was administered 4 times on a 3-day interval during the wound-healing process, with the first dose immediately administered after surgery.

Graft--host disease and relapse/rejection-free survival after allogeneic transplantation for idiopathic severe aplastic anemia: a comprehensive analysis from the SAAWP of the EBMT.

Survival after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for severe idiopathic aplastic anemia (SAA) has improved in recent years, approaching 75% at 5 years. However, an SAA-adapted composite endpoint, graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and relapse/rejection-free survival (GRFS), may more accurately assess patient outcomes beyond survival. We analyzed GRFS to identify risk factors and specific causes of GRFS failure.

Retrospective analysis of effectiveness of fingolimod in real life setting in Turkey (REFINE).

Background: During multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment different modes of action such as lateral (interferon beta to glatiramer acetate or glatiramer acetate to interferon beta) or vertical (interferon beta/glatiramer acetate to fingolimod) drug switch can be performed. This study aims to investigate the clinical effectiveness of switching from the first-line injectable disease modifying treatments (iDMTs) to fingolimod (FNG) compared to switching between first-line iDMTs.

Methods: This is a multicenter, observational and retrospective study of patients with relapsing-remitting MS who had lateral and vertical switch.

Posterior-only approach in patients with poor general condition and spinal metastatic vertebral fracture.

Purpose: The surgical treatment of spinal metastases is mostly palliative in nature and focuses on improving the quality of life of patients. The posterior transpedicular surgical approach provides circumferential 360° decompression, allows reconstruction and stabilisation to be achieved in a single session and can be performed using an open, mini-open or minimally invasive approach. We present and discuss the surgical techniques and outcomes for patients with single-level metastatic spinal disease and in poor general condition who underwent surgery via the posterior-only transpedicular corpectomy approach and reconstruction with expandable corpectomy cages.

Oncologic and obstetric outcomes of early-stage epithelial ovarian cancer patients who underwent fertility-sparing surgery: A retrospective study.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the long-term oncologic and obstetric outcomes of women with epithelial ovarian cancer who underwent fertility-sparing surgery.

Methods: A total of 68 patients observed between March 2007 and July 2021 were included in this retrospective study. Unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and uterine preservation with staging surgery were the main procedures for fertility-sparing surgery.

Objective: The hidden cochlear implant concept has two data transmission methods: Bluetooth low energy and transtympanic optical data transfer systems. This study aimed to present the hidden cochlear implant and compare the test results with the existing fully implanted cochlear implant.

Method: The Bluetooth low energy module was implanted into the implant bed.

Role of basal autonomic functions in patients with increased morning blood pressure surge.

Background: Morning blood pressure (BP) surge (MS) is associated with cardiovascular events. The autonomic nervous system plays an active role in the regulation of BP and its function can be evaluated by heart rate variability (HRV) analysis. This study aimed to evaluate autonomic nervous system functions in patients with increased MS.

BRCA, infertility, and fertility preservation: a review for counseling.

BRCA mutations as a triggering factor in breast cancer have been reported to result in fertility problems and oocyte aging in young patients with cancer diagnosis. These patients are concerned about fertility problems and family planning before undergoing treatment modalities that may result in infertility. In this review, we conducted analysis of the literature on the association between BRCA mutations and infertility, possible fertility preservation options, and their safety and tried to gather results from different disciplines and points of view on the matter.

Long-Term Prognosis of Patients with Heart Failure: Follow-Up Results of Journey HF-TR Study Population.

Background: Despite advances in therapeutic management of patients with heart failure, there is still an increasing morbidity and mortality all over the world. In this study, we aimed to present the 3-year follow-up outcomes of patients included in the Journey HF-TR study in 2016 that has evaluated the clinical characteristics and management of patients with acute heart failure admitted to the hospital and present a national registry data.

Methods: The study was designed retrospectively between November 2016 and December 2019.

Effect of acupressure applied to L4 point on the severity of fistula needle pain in patients: A randomised control trial.

Background: Patients usually feel pain when a needle is inserted into the fistula. This acute pain can be relieved by acupressure, which is a nonpharmacological application method.

Objective: This study was designed to explore the effect of acupressure application to the Hegu point on the severity of acute pain caused by fistula needle insertion in patients with antecubital arteriovenous fistula.

Investigation of fungus at stratum corneum of patients with acne vulgaris.

Cyclophosphamide is frequently substituted with fludarabine (Flu) in conditioning regimens before allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). We aimed to compare retrospectively, total body irradiation (12 Gy) plus Flu (FluTBI12) versus busulfan (Bu) plus Flu (FB4) as a myeloablative conditioning before allo-HCT in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Out of 3203 patients who met the inclusion criteria, 109 patients treated with FluTBI12 and 213 treated with FB4 were included in a final matched-pair analysis.

Developing a Measure to Quantify Ocular Pain Postoperatively: The Adaptation of the Ocular Pain Assessment Survey.

Purpose: Since quantification and communication of ocular pain is important for a healthier patient follow-up and postoperative guidance, reliable measures like the Ophthalmic Pain Assessment Survey (OPAS) are needed to assess the outcome and management of different operations. To address that need, we carried out the adaptation of OPAS into Turkish to reach different age groups and backgrounds, widening the use of OPAS on patients who underwent an ophthalmic operation.

Methods: We used back-translation method and achieved cultural adaptation through content validity scoring by 5 independent ophthalmologists.

Haploidentical Versus Matched Sibling Donor Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Adult Patients With Relapsed/Refractory Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Study From the Acute Leukemia Working Party of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.

The results of haploidentical stem cell transplantation (haploHCT) for patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) transplanted in active disease remain largely unknown. We retrospectively analyzed adult patients with R/R ALL who underwent haploHCT or matched sibling donor (MSD-HCT) as a first transplantation between 2012 and 2020. The analysis comprised 274 patients, 94 had a haploHCT, and 180 had an MSD-HCT.

Compatibility levels between blood gas analysis and central laboratory hemoglobin and electrolyte tests in pediatric patients: A single-center experience.

Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the interchangeability of sodium, potassium, hemoglobin, and hematocrit measurement between the blood gas analyzers and laboratory automatic analyzers results.

Perceptions and Experiences of Privacy Among Persons With an Ostomy Receiving Treatment and Care: A Mixed-Methods Study.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine ostomy patients' experiences and opinions on protection of privacy during treatment and care.

Design: Mixed-methods, descriptive correlational study.

Sample And Setting: The study sample comprised 80 patients with an ostomy receiving treatment and care in a university hospital in Turkey.

The association of vitamin D deficiency with hemogram-derived inflammatory biomarkers in children.

Background And Aims: One of the extraosseous effects of vitamin D is that it is a potent modulator of inflammatory processes. Many studies have demonstrated the inverse association between vitamin D and inflammation. Therefore, we hypothesize that vitamin D deficiency may affect the inflammatory markers derived from hemogram parameters [neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR), platelet distribution width (PDW), red blood cell distribution width (RDW)] in healthy children.

Management of MRI-Detected Benign Internal Mammary Lymph Nodes.

 In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate benign internal mammary lymph nodes (IMLNs) in terms of frequency, number, size, long axis/short axis (L/S) ratio, intercostal location, presence of fatty hilum, and stability using breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and discuss the findings by reviewing existing literature.  This single-center study consisted of 130 women between the ages of 24 and 76 years, who had at least two breast MRI examinations in our institution, with the latest exam performed between January 1, 2019 and November 1, 2019, were eligible for the study. MRIs of the study group were independently reviewed by two radiologists.

Does an infra pectineal plate alone provide adequate fixation in anterior column posterior hemitransverse acetabular fractures? A comparative biomechanical study.
