Nation-wide analysis of the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on daily urology practice in Turkey.

Objective: To present a nation-wide analysis of the workload of urology departments in Turkey week-by-week during Covid-19 pandemic.

Methodology: The centres participating in the study were divided into three groups as tertiary referral centres, state hospitals and private practice hospitals. The number of outpatients, inpatients, daily interventions and urological surgeries were recorded prospectively between 9-March-2020 and 31-May-2020.

Laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy: Technique and surgical outcomes.

Objective: Pelvic and para-aortic lymph node dissection is an important part of staging surgery. Aim of this study is to evaluate perioperative outcomes of patients, who underwent laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy for gynecological cancer in a single center over a period of 7 years, based on body mass index (BMI), and to present the surgical technique in steps.

Methods: Data of patients who underwent para-aortic lymphadenectomy at gynecological oncology department of a tertiary center in between March 2013 and July 2020 were analyzed retrospectively.

Urinay neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin as a biomarker in different renal problems.

Background/aim: Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is used previously to estimate the etiology, severity, and clinical outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the role of urinary NGAL (uNGAL) in the postrenal setting is not clear. In our study, we aimed to discover the cut-off value of uNGAL that can be used in the differential diagnosis of underlying AKI etiologies.

Empowering caregivers in the radiotherapy process: the results of a randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mobile-assisted empowerment program developed specifically for caregivers of cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy.

Methods: In this study, seventy-four individuals who gave care for cancer patients that received radiotherapy between September 2019 and May 2020 were randomized to receive a mobile-assisted empowerment program or standard care. The mobile-assisted empowerment program comprised of education and information related to the radiotherapy process, videos, activities, and question-and-answer modules to support caregivers during the radiotherapy process.

Open abdomen management for severe peritonitis in elderly. Results from the prospective International Register of Open Abdomen (IROA): Cohort study.

Background: Analyzing the data of the International Register of Open Abdomen (IROA), the feasibility of open abdomen treatment has been demonstrated at every age. This new analysis on the IROA database investigates the risk factors for mortality in elderly patients treated with open abdomen for intra-abdominal infection.

Methods: Data were derived from the IROA, a prospective observational international cohort study that enrolled patients treated with open abdomen worldwide.

The Effects of Transobturator Tape Surgery on Sexual Functions in Women With Stress Urinary Incontinence.

Introduction: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) can adversely affect the patient's sexual function.

Aim: To evaluate the sexual functions in women who underwent transobturator tape (TOT) surgery because of stress urinary incontinence and factors affecting the treatment results.

Methods: The study was conducted in 2 tertiary level clinics between 2013 and 2019 and included sexually active patients with a diagnosis of SUI who underwent TOT operation.

Effect of adherence to carbohydrate counting on metabolic control in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Purpose: Carbohydrate counting provides better glycemic control and flexibility than other food planning methods. Consistent adherence to such a complex method is difficult, especially for youth. However, studies that determine adherence to this method and whether it alters metabolic control are limited.

Role of Point-of-Care Lung and Inferior Vena Cava Ultrasound in Clinical Decisions for Patients Presenting to the Emergency Department With Symptoms of Acute Decompensated Heart Failure.

Objectives: This prospective study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic role of point-of-care lung ultrasound (LUS) and inferior vena cava (IVC) ultrasound in patients with acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF).

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted between January 2018 and November 2018 on patients with a diagnosis of ADHF in the emergency department (ED). On admission, LUS findings, inspiratory and expiratory IVC diameters, and the inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVCCI) were obtained.

Increased frequency of occurrence of bendopnea is associated with poor outcomes in heart failure outpatients.

Background: Relationship between the frequency of occurrence of bendopnea during the daily life of heart failure (HF) outpatients and clinical outcomes has never been evaluated before.

Methods: Turkish Research Team-Heart Failure (TREAT-HF) is a network between HF centres, which undertakes multicentric observational studies in HF. Herein, the data including stable 573 HF patients with reduced ejection fraction out of seven HF centres were presented.

Social life and happiness analysis of female emergency physician in Turkey.

The study is aimed to analyze female emergency physician domestic support, social activity, occupational satisfaction level, and subjective happiness scale results. An electronically designed questionnaire form was e-mailed to 380 female emergency physicians working in our country. Happiness level of the participants was rated using the Subjective Happiness Scale.

Low Systemic Inflammation Response Index Predicts Good Prognosis in Locally Advanced Pancreatic Carcinoma Patients Treated with Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy.

Background: We investigated the prognostic significance of pretreatment systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) in locally advanced pancreatic carcinoma (LAPC) patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT).

Methods: Present retrospective cohort analysis investigated consecutive 154 LAPC patients who received radical CRT. The SIRI was defined as: SIRI = neutrophil × monocyte/lymphocyte counts.

Characteristics of uveitic glaucoma in Turkish patients.

Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence of uveitic glaucoma (UG) in the Turkish population and investigate the primary underlying diseases.

Methods: This multicenter, cross-sectional, prospective study included patients who presented to the glaucoma units of 10 tertiary ophthalmology departments in Ankara, Turkey from 15th March to 16th May 2015 and fulfilled the criteria of UG. Patients were inspected for age, sex, medical history, best corrected visual acuity, biomicroscopic findings, intraocular pressure values, and visual field results.

GLASS: Global Lorlatinib for ALK(+) and ROS1(+) retrospective Study: real world data of 123 NSCLC patients.

Unlabelled: Lorlatinib is a third-generation tyrosine-kinases inhibitor (TKI) targeting ALK/ROS1 fusions. The FDA has approved lorlatinib for TKI-pretreated ALK(+) NSCLC, while its approval for ROS1(+) is still pending. Translation, cultural adaptation, and validation and reliability of assessment of pelvic floor disorders and their risk factors during pregnancy and postpartum questionnaire in Turkish population.

Objectives: This study was conducted in order to produce translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of Assessment of Pelvic Floor Disorders and Their Risk Factors During Pregnancy and Postpartum Questionnaire (APFDQ) to Turkish in pregnant and postpartum population.

Material And Methods: The study included 80 pregnant women. Internal consistency was tested using Cronbach's alpha.

Spleen stiffness measurement by shear wave elastography using acoustic radiation force impulse in predicting the etiology of splenomegaly.

Purpose: To measure spleen stiffness by shear wave elastography (SWE) using acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) in patients with splenomegaly and to evaluate utility of elastography technique in identifying etiology of splenomegaly.

Methods: Sixty-one treatment-naïve patients with splenomegaly were enrolled. The control group consisted of 20 healthy subjects without history of any disease including diabetes and hypertension, alcohol consumption, or biochemical or ultrasonographic findings indicating hepatic and renal diseases.

Evaluation of non-infectious complications of peritoneal dialysis in children: a multicenter study.

Background: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is the most common kidney replacement therapy in children. Complications associated with PD affect treatment success and sustainability. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of PD-related non-infectious complications and the predisposing factors.

COVID-19: a novel menace for the practice of nephrology and how to manage it with minor devastation?

Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) became a nightmare for the world since December 2019. Although the disease affects people at any age; elderly patients and those with comorbidities were more affected. Everyday nephrologists see patients with hypertension, chronic kidney disease, maintenance dialysis treatment or kidney transplant who are also high-risk groups for the COVID-19.

Disease characteristics of psoriatic arthritis patients may differ according to age at psoriasis onset: cross-sectional data from the Psoriatic Arthritis-International Database.

Objectives: To explore the impact of early versus late-onset psoriasis (PsO) on the disease characteristics of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in a large-multicentre cohort.

Methods: The data from a multicentre psoriatic arthritis database was analysed. Patients were grouped according to age at psoriasis onset (early onset; <40 years of age, late-onset; >40 years of age) and disease characteristics of the groups were compared by adjusting for BMI and PsA duration, where necessary.

Predictiveness of different preoperative risk assessments for postoperative bleeding after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.

Aim: Postoperative bleeding is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Studies have been conducted, and guidelines have been published regarding patient blood management and aiming to prevent blood loss in the perioperative period. Various bleeding risk assessments were developed for preoperative period.

Increased monocyte to HDL cholesterol ratio in vitamin B12 deficiency: Is it related to cardiometabolic risk?

Vitamin B12 deficiency may have indirect cardiovascular effects in addition to hematological and neuropsychiatric symptoms. It was shown that the monocyte count-to-high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio (MHR) is a novel cardiovascular marker. In this study, the aim was to evaluate whether MHR was high in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency and its relationship with cardiometabolic risk factors.

Psychological domain of quality of life, depression and anxiety levels in fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles of women with endometriosis: a prospective study.

Objective: To evaluate the psychological domain of quality of life (PDQoL), anxiety and depression levels of infertile women with endometriosis versus non endometriosis who applied for Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART).

Method: This prospective case-control study compromised a total of 105 women who applied for IVF/ICSI program. Ninety-three women were divided into two groups as endometriosis ( = 37) and non-endometriosis ( = 56) after 12 patients who refused to participate in the study were excluded.

NT-proBNP level in stage 3-4 chronic kidney disease and mortality in long-term follow-up: HAPPY study subgroup analysis.

Objective: This was an investigation of the relationship between the N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level and mortality in patients with stage 3-4 chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: This study was designed as a subgroup analysis of the Heart Failure Prevalence and Predictors in Turkey (HAPPY) study. The HAPPY study included 4650 randomly selected individuals from the 7 geographical regions of Turkey.

The Role of Heredity and the Prevalence of Strabismus in Families with Accommodative, Partial Accommodative, and Infantile Esotropia.

Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of strabismus in families of a proband with accommodative, partial accommodative, or infantile esotropia, and to evaluate the mode of inheritance and the role of consanguineous marriages in this prevalence.

Materials And Methods: Families of probands with comitant strabismus were invited to participate in the study. The family members of 139 subjects with accommodative, 55 with partial accommodative, and 21 with infantile esotropia agreed to participate.
