Analysis of the reactive oxygen species (ROS)-detoxifying biomarkers may elucidate the mitochondrial dysfunction in glaucoma pathogenesis. Therefore, we purposed to investigate the effects of ROS-detoxifying molecules including Silent Information Regulator T1 (SIRT1) and Forkhead Box O 1 (FOXO1) and 3a (FOXO3a) transcription factors in patients with glaucoma. Our analyses included 20 eyes from patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and 20 eyes from patients with pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PXG) who were scheduled for trabeculectomy.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included a total of 634 eyes who underwent surgery for idiopathic ERM in 22 academic centers nationwide in Turkey. Data on best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and optical coherence tomography features (central foveal thickness (CFT), ERM and foveal contour morphology, ellipsoid zone (EZ) integrity) were collected and compared at baseline, 6-month, 12-month, and 24-month follow-ups.

We aimed to determine the prognostic role of whole tumor-associated inflammatory cells, especially eosinophils, and stromal histological characteristics in relation to other prognostic parameters in patients with colorectal carcinoma (CRC). A total of 122 patients who underwent an operation for CRC were included in this retrospective study. Conventional (tumor grade, TNM stage and venous invasion [VI]) and other histopathological (intratumoral/peritumoral budding [ITB/PTB], desmoplasia) tumor parameters were recorded and classified by density, as were the tumor-associated inflammatory parameters (intratumoral/peritumoral lymphocytes [ITL/PTL], eosinophils [IE/PTE], overall inflammation [ITI/PTI], Crohn-like inflammation [CLI]).

The uremic toxins indoxyl sulfate (IS) and p-cresyl sulfate (pCS) accumulate in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) as a consequence of altered gut microbiota metabolism and a decline in renal excretion. Despite of solid experimental evidence for nephrotoxic effects, the impact of uremic toxins on the progression of CKD has not been investigated in representative patient cohorts. In this analysis, IS and pCS serum concentrations were measured in 604 pediatric participants (mean eGFR of 27 ± 11 ml/min/1.

Background: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) represents a diagnostic and management challenge to clinicians. The "Thwaites' system" and "Lancet consensus scoring system" are utilized to differentiate TBM from bacterial meningitis but their utility in subacute and chronic meningitis where TBM is an important consideration is unknown.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective study of adults with subacute and chronic meningitis, defined by symptoms greater than 5 days and less than 30 days for subacute meningitis (SAM) and greater than 30 days for chronic meningitis (CM).

Objective: Cytokines have been the mainstay of treatment in metastatic renal cell cancer (mRCC) for decades before the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), which dramatically changed the therapeutic landscape in these patients. This observational study was designed to evaluate use of TKIs in the treatment of cytokine-intolerant mRCC patients.
Methods: A total of 151 cytokine-intolerant mRCC patients who were treated with TKIs (sunitinib, pazopanib and sorafenib) were enrolled in this prospective, non-interventional, multi-center observational study at 16 oncology centers across Turkey.

To investigate the effect of kinesio taping (KT) and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) on pain severity, breast engorgement, and milk volume in postpartum women. In this prospective randomized-controlled trial, we recruited 67 postpartum women who had breast engorgement and randomly assigned them to the KT, MLD, and control group. In the KT group, taping plus breast care was performed, MLD plus breast care was performed in the MLD group, and in the control group, only routine breast care was given for 10 days.

Cardiovascular "risk" is an abstract concept that is frequently misunderstood by the general public. However, correct estimation of one's own cardiovascular risk is important as risk unawareness is associated with noncompliance with interventions aimed to reduce risk burden. Knowing the prevalence and factors linked with an increased probability of risk unawareness are therefore important to develop strategies aimed to increase risk awareness.
