Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is a gasotransmitter that has been studied for its potential therapeutic effects, including its role in the pathophysiology and treatment of stroke. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the sufficiency of overall preclinical evidence to guide the initiation of clinical stroke trials with HS and provide tailored recommendations for their design. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, and MEDLINE were searched for studies evaluating the effect of any HS donor on in vivo animal models of regional ischemic stroke, and 34 publications were identified.

Pestil, also known as fruit leather, has emerged as a promising non-dairy carrier for probiotics, utilizing apricots and incorporating probiotics into its formulation. This study aimed to develop a healthy snack bar by incorporating three distinct strains of probiotic bacteria, both in free and encapsulated forms, into the recipe of apricot leather. The physicochemical, bioactive, microbiological, and textural attributes of the resulting apricot pestils were evaluated over a 120-day storage period.

Rationale: Intramuscular injections are routine outpatient procedure performed at healthcare institutions worldwide. In the current literature, there have been very few reports of gluteal superior artery injuries due to incorrect injection techniques. However, no one has ever reported a healthy middle-aged man with systemic inflammatory response syndrome with possible injection-related bleeding from the gluteus superior artery, followed by a hematoma, and then a deep abscess after 3 weeks of not receiving treatment.

Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are widely used as end-stage therapy in patients with advanced heart failure, whereas implantation increases the risks of development of sustained ventricular tachycardia at the later postimplantation stage. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of orally administered amiodarone and propranolol in 3 patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT) after LVAD implantation who were resistant to initial anti-antiarrhythmic drugs. This retrospective cohort study consisted of the initial evaluation of the clinical data of 14 adult patients who underwent implantation of LVAD between January 2019 and March 2021.

Background: Social capital is an important resource that enables employees to build trust-based relationships with other individuals and groups in the workplace. Although the evidence reveals the effect of employee empowerment on burnout, the moderator role of social capital in this relationship is still unexplored. However, considering the health employees who have mental health problems and increased dissatisfaction with the COVID-19 epidemic, the importance of determining the antecedent factors that may affect burnout plays an even more critical role.

Objective: To evaluate the shade-matching ability of single-shade resin-based composite restorations in different thicknesses using both instrumental and visual techniques.
Methods And Materials: Cavities with 4 mm diameter and 2 mm (n=96) or 3 mm (n=96) depth were prepared in acrylic incisor teeth of shades A2, A3, B3, and C2 and restored with three single-shade resin composites, Omnichroma (Tokuyama Dental America, Encinitas, CA, USA [OM]), Vittra APS Unique (FGM Dental Group, Joinville, SC, Brazil [VU]), Zenchroma (President Dental, Allershausen, Germany [ZC]), and a microhybrid resin composite (Filtek 3M Z250 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA [FZ]) of A2, A3, B3, and C2 shades. Readings were obtained using VITA Easyshade V spectrophotometer for the teeth and restorations.

Notably, the number of incidentally detected focal liver lesions (FLLs) has increased dramatically in recent years due to the increased use of radiological imaging. The diagnosis of FLLs can be made through a well-documented medical history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and appropriate imaging methods. Although benign FLLs are more common than malignant ones in adults, even in patients with primary malignancy, accurate diagnosis of incidental FLLs is of utmost clinical significance.

Domino liver transplantation and domino-auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation are emerging techniques that can expand the liver donor pool and provide hope for children with liver disease. The innovative technique of domino liver transplantation has emerged as a pioneering strategy, capitalizing on structurally preserved livers from donors exhibiting single enzymatic defects within a morphologically normal context, effectively broadening the donor pool. Concurrently, the increasingly prevalent domino-auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation method assumes a critical role in bolstering available donor resources.

Background: The lack of evidence regarding optimal desensitization strategies for lung transplant candidates with preformed donor specific anti-human leukocyte antigen antibodies (DSAs) has led to varying approaches among centers towards this patient group. Our institution's desensitization protocol for recipients with preformed DSAs and negative flow cytometry crossmatch (FCXM) consists of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) as the sole therapy. The study aimed to determine outcomes using this approach.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the results of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL) for the treatment of 1-2 cm kidney stones in pediatric patients.
Methods: The records of patients under the age of 18 years who were diagnosed with unilateral 1-2 cm kidney stones for the first time and underwent endoscopic surgery between February 2008 and April 2022 were retrospectively examined. The patients were divided into two groups: mini-PCNL and RIRS surgery.
Objectives: We explored the prognostic utility of the unique combination of C-reactive-protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) and significant weight loss (WL > 5%) over the preceding 6 months, namely, the CARWL score, in stage IIIC non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who underwent concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT).
Methods: For each patient, the CAR was calculated using C-reactive protein and albumin measurements obtained on the first day of CCRT: CAR = C-reactive protein ÷ albumin. The availability of an ideal CAR cutoff that may categorize patients into two distinct progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) outcomes was explored by employing receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.
