Review of 2022 PSOGI/RENAPE Consensus on HIPEC.

The 2022 PSOGI (Peritoneal Surface Oncology Group International) and RENAPE (French Network for Rare Peritoneal Malignancies) consensus on hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) was a comprehensive effort aimed at standardizing treatment protocols for various peritoneal malignancies. This initiative is critical due to the wide range of technical variations in HIPEC procedures and the resulting need for standardization to ensure consistent and effective patient care and meaningful audit of multicenter data.

Determining a minimum data set for reporting clinical and radiologic data for pseudomyxoma peritonei.

Objectives: Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare cancer currently affecting over 11,736 patients across Europe. Since PMP is so uncommon, collaboration between scientific centers is key to discovering the mechanisms behind the disease, efficient treatments, and targets pointing to a cure. To date, no consensus has been reached on the minimum data that should be collected during PMP research studies.

Communicating imaging findings in peritoneal mesothelioma: the impact of 'PAUSE' on surgical decision-making.

The peritoneal cavity is the second commonest site of mesothelioma after the pleural cavity. There are five histological types of peritoneal mesothelioma with variable symptomatology, clinical presentation and prognosis. Cystic mesothelioma is a borderline malignant neoplasm with a favourable prognosis, well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma is generally a low-grade malignancy, and all other varieties such as epithelioid, sarcomatoid and biphasic mesothelioma are highly malignant types of peritoneal mesothelioma with poor prognosis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the contemporary rates and patterns of local recurrence after sigmoid cancer resection, comparing pre and post-operative biomarkers in predicting local disease recurrence.

Introduction: COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on the 11th of March 2020 with the NHS deferring all non-urgent activity from the 15th of April 2020. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of COVID-19 on Trauma and Orthopaedic trainees nationally.

Methods: Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) specialty trainees nationally were asked to complete an electronic survey specifically on the impact of COVID-19 on their training.

Evidence generation for the clinical impact of myCOPD in patients with mild, moderate and newly diagnosed COPD: a randomised controlled trial.

Self-management interventions in COPD aim to improve patients' knowledge, skills and confidence to make correct decisions, thus improving health status and outcomes. myCOPD is a web-based self-management app known to improve inhaler use and exercise capacity in individuals with more severe COPD. We explored the impact of myCOPD in patients with mild-moderate or recently diagnosed COPD through a 12-week, open-label, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial of myCOPD compared with usual care.

Focal HIFU therapy for anterior compared to posterior prostate cancer lesions.

Objective: To compare cancer control in anterior compared to posterior prostate cancer lesions treated with a focal HIFU therapy approach.

Materials And Methods: In a prospectively maintained national database, 598 patients underwent focal HIFU (Sonablate500) (March/2007-November/2016). Follow-up occurred with 3-monthly clinic visits and PSA testing in the first year with PSA, every 6-12 months with mpMRI with biopsy for MRI-suspicion of recurrence.

The mesentery is the organ in which all abdominal digestive organs develop, and which maintains these in systemic continuity in adulthood. Interest in the mesentery was rekindled by advancements of Heald and Hohenberger in colorectal surgery. Conventional descriptions hold there are multiple mesenteries centrally connected to the posterior midline.

The sigmoid take-off: An anatomical imaging definition of the rectum validated on specimen analysis.

Background: A pre-operative imaging landmark to define the rectum would optimise clinical care of rectal cancer patients and research efforts to improve outcomes. The sigmoid take-off has been suggested as an imaging landmark for the rectosigmoid junction (RSJ). This study aimed to investigate whether this imaging definition of the rectum was validated by surgical specimen analysis.

Ovarian cyst haemorrhage as a complication of acute myelomonocytic leukaemia induction therapy.

Background: Here we present a case of acute ovarian cyst haemorrhage in a young female during induction therapy for acute myelomonocytic leukaemia (AMML).

Case Presentation: A patient undergoing chemotherapy on the AML19 trial for AMML developed severe abdominal pain and haemodynamic compromise during cycle 2 of fludarabine, cytarabine and idarubicin. The patient was found to have a large ruptured haemorrhagic ovarian cyst on computed tomography.

Ex vivo specimen MRI and pathology confirm a rectosigmoid mesenteric waist at the junction of the mesorectum and mesocolon.

Aim: Continuity of the mesentery has recently been established and may provide an anatomical basis for optimal colorectal resectional surgery. Preliminary data from operative specimen measurements suggest there is a tapering in the mesentery of the distal sigmoid. A mesenteric waist in this area may be a risk factor for local recurrence of colorectal cancer.

Definition of the Rectum: An International, Expert-based Delphi Consensus.

Background: The wide global variation in the definition of the rectum has led to significant inconsistencies in trial recruitment, clinical management, and outcomes. Surgical technique and use of preoperative treatment for a cancer of the rectum and sigmoid colon are radically different and dependent on the local definitions employed by the clinical team. A consensus definition of the rectum is needed to standardise treatment.
