Introduction: The incidence and outcome of infection in open tibial fractures is adequately recorded in literature. The aim of this study is to find out the deep infection rate, union rate, and functional outcome of open tibial fractures managed by prophylactic antibiotic eluting interlocking nail.

Methodology: A total of 18 patients with 20 open tibial fractures who met the study criteria were included and followed up for a minimum of 1 year after surgical intervention.

Background: Childhood immunization against hepatitis B is one of the most effective strategies for reducing the global burden of chronic hepatitis B infection and its sequelae. There are limited data from India on both the anti-Hep B antibody titres in children after vaccination and the age-related decline in the titres. This study was planned to estimate the proportion of children in the age group of 1-10 years who develop protective levels of anti-hepatitis B antibodies after childhood vaccination and to examine the change in antibody titres with age in these children.

Introduction: At the population level, screening and brief intervention (BI) is the most cost-effective method to reduce the burden of disease due to hazardous alcohol use. In delivering BI at individual level, trained workforce as well as time is a limiting factor. Transabdominal sonography (TAS) and Transvaginal sonography (TVS) were compared for follicular monitoring in 73 patients of infertility. These patients were referred for follicular monitoring in normal and stimulated cycles from infertility clinic. In a prospective study a comparison has been made between the clinical efficacy and safety of cetirizine, a third generation H1 receptor antagonist with chlorpheniramine and cyprohepatadine, the most widely used antithistamines in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. One hundred and five patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria were studied where the effects of chlorpheniramine, 4 mg and cyproheptadine, 4 mg administered twice daily were compared with cetirizine, 10 mg given once daily for 4 weeks or earlier till the relief of symptoms and regression of lesions. Local therapy consisted of calamine lotion in all cases.

CHANGES IN PULMONARY VASCULATURE IN LUNG DISEASES WHICH LEAD TO PULMONARY HYPERTENSION.

The pulmonary vasculature was studied in lung biopsy/autopsy specimens of 20 cases, in conditions likely to lead to pulmonary hypertension. The changes were classified as per Edward and Heath classification and morphometric measurements to gauge medial and intimai hypertrophy were done. Medial hypertrophy was found to be the earliest and commonest change in all cases, irrespective of the pathogenic mechanism of pulmonary hypertension.
