Turkish Society of Gastroenterology: Pancreas Working Group, Acute Pancreatitis Committee Consensus Report.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinical condition that arises acutely in the pancreas through various inflammatory pathways due to multiple causes. Turkish Society of Gastroenterology Pancreas Working Group developed comprehensive guidance statements regarding the management of AP that include its epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, disease severity, treatment, prognosis, local and systemic complications. The statements were developed through literature review, deliberation, and consensus opinion.

A cross sectional study evaluating the relationship of acne to androgenetic alopecia subtype and severity.

The circulating androgens have a role in the pathogenesis of both acne vulgaris and androgenetic alopecia; an association between these two have been found previously. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of the severity of acne vulgaris lesions to the subtype of AGA; and to validate the relationship between severities of acne vulgaris and AGA. This study was conducted cross-sectionally at five different dermatology clinics.

Background/objectives: Pediatric oncology patients face several physical and psychological challenges that can significantly impact their quality of life (QoL) and attitudes toward their illness. Coping strategies are pivotal in managing the emotional and physical burdens of disease. This study aimed to examine the impact of coping strategies of pediatric oncology patients on their QoL and attitudes towards their illness.

Purpose: Medicines derived from natural sources have been used for thousands of years throughout the world. Because natural compounds are thought to have less toxic effects and fewer side effects, these products are becoming more popular by the day.

Case Report: In this case report, we presented a case of acute kidney injury, rhabdomyolysis, and hepatotoxicity after ingestion of black seed oil.

Discovery of a novel homozygous SOD1 truncating variant bolsters infantile SOD1 deficiency syndrome.

Objective: Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) is an important antioxidant enzyme whose main function is to neutralise superoxide free radicals in the cytoplasm. Heterozygous variants in SOD1 are responsible for a substantial percentage of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) cases. Recently, several reports have shown that biallelic loss of SOD1 function results in a novel phenotype called infantile SOD1 deficiency syndrome, which is consistent with a recessive pattern of inheritance and can be distinguished from typical (adult-onset) ALS.

Prognostic value of systemic immune-inflammation index in the diagnosis of preeclampsia.

Background: Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy with negative consequences for the mother and fetus. It was aimed to investigate whether the systemic immune inflammation index is a parameter that will facilitate the diagnosis of preeclampsia.

Methods: This retrospective and single-center study included patients diagnosed with preeclampsia after admission to the emergency department and those who met the inclusion criteria.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of psychosocial support videos provided by the community on the attitudes of pediatric oncology patients aged between 10 and 18 years toward their illness and treatment-related symptoms.

Data Sources: This prospective randomized controlled study was conducted with 52 pediatric oncology patients aged between 10 and 18. The data were collected using the Information Form, Child Attitude Towards Illness Scale (CATIS), and Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (MSAS).

Which treatment should we choose for tubo-ovarian abscesses? Results of an 8-year clinical training in a tertiary center.

Objectives: Tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) is inflammation of the pelvic organs, mainly originating from the lower genital tract and intestinal tract. Treatment options include antibiotic therapy, surgical drainage, and radiologically guided (interventional) drainage. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the treatment method to be chosen and thus to manage patients with tuba ovarian abscesses (TOAs) most accurately.

Integrating artificial intelligence in orthognathic surgery: A case study of ChatGPT's role in enhancing physician-patient consultations for dentofacial deformities.

Orthognathic surgery, a multidisciplinary treatment for dentofacial deformities, presents complex preoperative preparations and follow-up procedures. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ChatGPT-4, an artificial intelligence-based language model, as a supportive tool during patient consultations for orthognathic surgery. Nine critical questions that candidates for orthognathic surgery should ask during a consultation were identified and posed to ChatGPT-4.

Single and double injection paravertebral block comparison in reduction mammaplasty cases: a randomized controlled study.

Background: This study compares the analgesic effects and dermatomal blockade distributions of single and double injection bilateral thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) techniques in patients undergoing reduction mammaplasty.

Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common sleep disorder that is caused by the reduction or cessation of airflow in the upper airway. Irisin, retinol-binding protein-4 (RBP-4), and adiponectin are the three significant factors in the metabolic process of the human body. The objective of this study was to investigate whether plasma irisin, RBP-4, and adiponectin levels are associated with the severity of OSAS.

Effect of teleconsultation on the application of thrombolytic therapy in stroke patients in the emergency department.

Introduction: Recently, telemedicine has become a widely used method worldwide for the treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke in hospitals where neurologists are unavailable. The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy and reliability of treatment decisions made by remote neurologists via teleconference assisted by emergency physicians in acute stroke cases and to determine whether the use of teleconsultation would lead to any delays in assessment and treatment decisions.

Methods: This single-center and prospective study was performed with 104 patients who met the inclusion criteria.

Aims: It is unclear whether the future risk of cardiovascular events in breast cancer (Bc) survivors is greater than in the general population. This meta-analysis quantifies the risk of cardiovascular disease development in Bc patients, compared to the risk in a general matched cancer-free population, and reports the incidence of cardiovascular events in patients with Bc.

Methods And Results: We searched PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases (up to 23 March 2022) for observational studies and post hoc analyses of randomized controlled trials.

The effect of dobutamine treatment on salvage of digital replantation and revascularization.

Purpose: One of the most common causes of a failure after replantation and revascularization surgeries is 'no reflow' from proximal artery that occurs, especially following crush and avulsion injuries. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of dobutamine treatment on salvage of replanted and revascularized digits.

Methods: The patients with no reflow phenomenon detected in the salvage operations of replanted/revascularized digits between the years 2017 and 2020 were included in the study.

Effects of nigella sativa oil on allergic rhinitis: an experimental animal study.

Objectives: Nigella sativa oil is known antiallergic and immunomodulatory effects. We aimed to compare this oil with mometasone furoate, a topical steroid, on a rat model in the prevention of allergic rhinitis symptoms.

Methods: A total of 28 two-to-four-month-old Wistar Hannover rats weighing 250-350 g were randomly divided into four groups of seven, which included control, allergic rhinitis, mometasone furoate, and Nigella sativa oil groups.
