Prevalence of Reluctance to Prescribe Opioids Among Physicians in Oncology Departments: A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study From Turkey.

Cancer-related pain (CrP) is a significant public health problem, and opioids are the mainstay of CrP treatment. Considering the persistent problem of inadequate treatment of cancer pain in Turkey, the study was conducted to determine the prevalence of reluctance to prescribe opioids among physicians in oncology departments. The descriptive cross-sectional study included oncology residents and residents without oncology specialization in oncology departments.

Management of Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia: Turkish Modified Delphi-Based Consensus Statement for Special Considerations.

Objective: Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired disorder of platelets with a complex and unclear mechanism of increased immune destruction or impaired production of platelets. While the management of ITP is evolving, there is still a need for guidance, particularly in certain circumstances such as pregnancy, emergencies, or patients requiring co-medications. We aimed to determine the tendencies of hematologists in Türkiye in the event of such special considerations.

The effect of a biofeedback-based virtual reality game on pain, fear and anxiety levels during port catheter needle insertion in pediatric oncology patients: A randomized controlled study.

Purpose: It is essential to control pain, fear, and anxiety related to medical procedures to improve the well-being of the child and family trying to cope with the disease process. This study investigated the impact of the biofeedback-based virtual reality game (BioVirtualPed) on pain, fear, and anxiety levels during port needle insertion in pediatric oncology patients (POPs).

Methods: This randomized controlled study was conducted at a hospital between August and December 2023 involving 62 POPs aged 6-12 and their mothers.

Comparative Analysis of Transpedal and Transfemoral Access During Genicular Artery Embolization for Knee Osteoarthritis.

Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of transpedal access (TPA) with transfemoral access (TFA) in Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE).

Materials And Methods: 60 patients who underwent GAE between January and June 2023, were recruited and outcomes were compared between the TFA (n = 37) and TPA (n = 23) groups. Technical and clinical success rates, complications, and patient-reported outcomes were assessed.

Association between Systolic Pulmonary Artery Pressure and Contrast-Induced Nephropathy in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to examine whether there is an elevated risk of developing contrast induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients with high systolic pulmonary artery pressure (SPAP) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: A total of 213 patients diagnosed with STEMI and who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention were enrolled in the study. The patients were stratified into two groups based on the presence of CIN.

Evaluating pregnancy termination decisions for fetal anomalies: a retrospective study in a tertiary referral center.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the factors that influence pregnancy termination due to fetal anomalies, regardless of gestational age, within the legal framework of Turkey.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2021 and July 2023 at a tertiary perinatology center to analyze patients undergoing pregnancy termination. The process involved multidisciplinary evaluations and informed consent, resulting in 326 pregnancy terminations, categorized by gestational timing.

Deficiency in folliculin-interacting protein 1 (FNIP1) is a novel inborn error of immunity characterized by a severe defect in B-cell development, agammaglobulinemia, variable neutropenia, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. FNIP1 plays a critical role in B-cell development and metabolic homeostasis, establishing a metabolic checkpoint that ensures pre-B cells possess sufficient metabolic capacity to undergo division while concurrently limiting lymphogenesis due to abnormal growth.

Purpose: To assess whether diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and generalized q-sampling imaging (GQI) metrics could preoperatively predict the clinical outcome of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, from September 2021 to March 2023, preoperative DTI and GQI examinations of 44 patients who underwent DBS surgery, were analyzed. To evaluate motor functions, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) during on- and off-medication and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) scales were used before and three months after DBS surgery.

Management of pediatric liver failure with therapeutic plasma exchange and continuous renal replacement therapy: A retrospective observational study.

Liver failure represents a critical medical condition, marked by the rapid decline of hepatic functions. Emerging therapies, notably therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF), have demonstrated potential in mitigating these conditions through their roles in detoxification and hepatic support. Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy as a primary surgical option for glaucoma in Fuchs uveitis syndrome: A case series.
