Objective: Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired disorder of platelets with a complex and unclear mechanism of increased immune destruction or impaired production of platelets. While the management of ITP is evolving, there is still a need for guidance, particularly in certain circumstances such as pregnancy, emergencies, or patients requiring co-medications. We aimed to determine the tendencies of hematologists in Türkiye in the event of such special considerations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) compared to intravenous meperidine for pain management in the recovery room.
  • In a cohort of 108 patients, those receiving ESPB required significantly less meperidine and reported lower pain scores than those on IV meperidine.
  • The findings suggest that ESPB is a beneficial alternative for reducing opioid use in patients needing post-operative pain relief.

Agammaglobulinemia represents the most profound primary antibody deficiency, stemming from early cessation of B-cell development. Deficiency in folliculin-interacting protein 1 (FNIP1) is a novel inborn error of immunity characterized by a severe defect in B-cell development, agammaglobulinemia, variable neutropenia, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. FNIP1 plays a critical role in B-cell development and metabolic homeostasis, establishing a metabolic checkpoint that ensures pre-B cells possess sufficient metabolic capacity to undergo division while concurrently limiting lymphogenesis due to abnormal growth.

Purpose: To assess whether diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and generalized q-sampling imaging (GQI) metrics could preoperatively predict the clinical outcome of deep brain stimulation (DBS) in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, from September 2021 to March 2023, preoperative DTI and GQI examinations of 44 patients who underwent DBS surgery, were analyzed. To evaluate motor functions, the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) during on- and off-medication and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) scales were used before and three months after DBS surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces the quadriceps-patella angle (QPA) as a new measure to assess the forces acting on the patella, which is important for diagnosing knee issues like patellofemoral instability and pain syndrome.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 350 patients who underwent knee MRIs between 2018-2020, focusing on various angles related to patellar alignment and their correlation with conditions such as chondromalacia.
  • Results indicated that patients with a lateral patellar tilt angle (LPTA) greater than 5° had higher frequencies of chondromalacia, while those with an LPTA less than 5° showed significantly more fad-pad edema.
