Objectives: To examine the changes caused by fluorescein in the tear film by analyzing the qualitative parameters such as breakup location and also detailed quantitative parameters.

Methods: After determining the break-up time (BUT) value and breakup locations by the Non-invasive break-up time (NI-BUT) method, we re-evaluated the changes in the tear film stained with fluorescein using the topographical method. We called the topographic evaluation of the tear film stained with fluorescein as the Hybrid-BUT test.

Article Synopsis
  • Glofitamab is a bi-specific antibody used to treat relapsed or refractory B-cell lymphoma, showing potential in a phase II trial, but real-world data is limited.
  • A retrospective study in Turkey analyzed 43 DLBCL patients receiving glofitamab, revealing median overall survival of 8.8 months and a 1-year progression-free survival rate of 83%.
  • While the treatment had promising effectiveness, toxicity was a significant concern, with deaths linked to disease progression and treatment-related side effects like cytokine release syndrome.

  • Secondary bacterial infections, particularly ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and bloodstream infections (BSIs), significantly contributed to mortality in COVID-19 patients, prompting a study to compare infection rates before and during the pandemic in ICUs.
  • This study involved 558 ICU patients across six centers in Turkey, revealing no significant differences in VAP and BSI rates between the two periods, although mortality rates did increase during COVID-19.
  • Ultimately, the findings indicate that protective measures aimed at healthcare workers didn't translate to better patient outcomes, underscoring the need for a balanced approach in infection control.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to explore whether the commonly accepted causes of idiopathic subscapularis tears hold true when compared to the unaffected shoulder of patients who had surgery for this condition.
  • Sixteen patients were analyzed, measuring various anatomical distances and ligament conditions through MRI and during arthroscopic procedures.
  • The findings showed no significant differences in the measured shoulder parameters between the injured and healthy shoulders, but notable degeneration of the coracoacromial ligament was observed in 75% of patients, suggesting a potential link to subacromial impingement.

Background: Intravenous immune globulin (IVIg) is frequently used in some neurological diseases and is also the first-line therapy in Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, and multifocal motor neuropathy. We aimed to evaluate the frequency and characteristics of headaches, which is one of the most common side effects of IVIg treatment.

Methods: Patients who received IVIg treatment for neurological diseases were prospectively enrolled in 23 centers.

Myofascial trigger points are among the often-overlooked causes of anterior abdominal wall pain and primer dysmenorrhea. It is crucial to evaluate patients with a myofascial perspective in addition to a good history and a detailed physical examination. Myofascial trigger points of the abdominal oblique muscles and rectus abdominis muscle should be considered for patients with abdominal wall pain and primer dysmenorrhea.

The Naples score is a new prognostic score developed according to inflammatory and nutritional status and frequently evaluated in cancer patients. The present study aimed to evaluate using the Naples prognostic score (NPS) to predict the development of decreased left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The study has a multicenter and retrospective design and included 2280 patients with STEMI who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) between 2017 and 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore how serum levels of Vitamin A and Vitamin C relate to the severity of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients, using blood samples and CT imaging for assessment.
  • - Results showed that COVID-19 patients had significantly lower levels of both vitamins compared to healthy controls, indicating a potential nutritional deficiency in these patients.
  • - There were notable negative correlations between the levels of Vitamin A and C and both the extent of lung involvement (CT severity score) and the duration of hospitalization, suggesting that lower vitamin levels may predict worse outcomes.

Serum uric acid (SUA), the end product of purine metabolism acts as an antioxidant and is related to oxidative stress. It has been reported that SUA may be involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer disease, Huntington disease, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis. However, studies evaluating SUA levels in migraine are scarce.

Benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors involve mainly neurofibromas, schwannomas, and their variants. Ki67 is a widely used immunohistochemical marker that predicts the proliferation rate of tumors including the nerve sheath-derived neoplasms and it is helpful to differentiate them from their malignant counterparts. However, Ki67 score is not used in distinction of the benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors types from each other.

Purpose: We aimed to determine the predictive values of fetal pancreas size and maternal serum biomarkers glycated albumin (GA) and insulin-regulated aminopeptidase (IRAP) for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Materials And Methods: In this prospective observational study including 109 pregnant women, the fetal pancreas size and maternal serum biomarkers GA and IRAP were measured at the gestational age of 20-22 weeks and later at the gestational age of 24-28 weeks, in 19 participants of them, GDM was confirmed with the 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and the fetal pancreas size was measured in all the participants again.

Results: The median fetal pancreas sizes were significantly higher in women with or without GDM when measured at the 24-28 weeks of pregnancy compared to those at the 20-22 weeks of pregnancy (p < 0.
