Article Synopsis
  • Two devastating earthquakes in Türkiye on February 6, 2023, resulted in significant injuries to 903 children, with a focus on crush syndrome-related acute kidney injury (Crush-AKI) and mortality.
  • The study tracked various factors, including the time under rubble, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes, revealing that Crush-AKI developed in 36% of the patients, and over half required dialysis.
  • Key findings included that serum levels of creatine phosphokinase above 20,950 U/L and inadequate initial intravenous fluid volume were linked to Crush-AKI, and most deaths occurred among those with Crush-AKI within the first four days of admission.

  • The study assessed the impact of Rhinapi nasal spray on allergic rhinitis symptoms among 10,000 participants in Turkey over a 3-week period.
  • The treatment led to significant improvements in total symptom scores, quality of life (QoL) scores, and otolaryngological examination scores, with statistically significant changes before and after usage.
  • The findings suggest that Rhinapi effectively reduces symptoms of allergic rhinitis and can be considered as an additional treatment option for those affected.

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptom (DRESS) is a life-threatening drug hypersensitivity reaction that is characterized by skin rash, hematological abnormalities (eosinophilia, atypical lymphocytosis), lymphadenopathy, and internal organ involvement (liver, kidneys, and lung). Many drugs may cause DRESS syndrome, the most frequently reported of which are antiepileptics and allopurinol. In this case report, a patient who developed DRESS syndrome due to everolimus was presented herein.

Introduction: Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is a curable disease, with durable remission achieved in about 80% of patients following first-line treatment. Three new drugs were introduced to the daily use in cHL: brentuximab vedotin (BV), nivolumab, and pembrolizumab. All three drugs were initially approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory cHL (RRHL) and with their promising outcomes, they are now incorporated in different stages of the treatment.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cardiac rhythm disorder associated with hemodynamic disruptions and thromboembolic events. While antiarrhythmic drugs are often recommended as the initial treatment, catheter ablation has emerged as a viable alternative. However, the recurrence of AF following ablation remains a challenge, and there is growing interest in exploring inflammatory markers as predictors of recurrence.

Objective: Breast-conserving surgery (BCS) followed by radiotherapy (RT) is the standard treatment for early-stage breast cancer. The use of an additional RT dose (boost) to the tumour bed improves local control but may worsen quality of life (QOL) and cosmetic results. Multifocal/multicentric tumours (MMTs) pose a challenge as they require larger boost volumes.

Erciyes University School of Medicine, Department of Medical Biology, Kayseri, Turkey; Erciyes University, Betul-Ziya Eren Genome and Stem Cell Center, Kayseri, Turkey. Electronic address:

In 15 Turkish LAD-1 patients and controls, we assessed the impact of pathogenic ITGB2 mutations on Th17/Treg differentiation and functions, and innate lymphoid cell (ILC) subsets. The percentage of peripheral blood Treg cells, in vitro-generated induced Tregs differentiated from naive CD4 T cells were decreased despite the elevated absolute counts of CD4 cells in LAD-1 patients. Serum IL-23 levels were elevated in LAD-1 patients.
