Background: Patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) treated surgically occasionally have normalized calcium, but persistently high parathyroid hormone (PTH). We hypothesized that a possible explanation for this phenomenon is an underlying hyperplasia rather than adenoma.
Methods: Retrospective cohort of patients who underwent parathyroidectomy for PHPT with biopsy of a normal-appearing parathyroid gland were included.

While trends data of osteoarthritis (OA) are accumulating, primarily from Western Europe and the US, a gap persists in the knowledge of OA epidemiology in Middle Eastern populations. This study aimed to explore the prevalence, incidence, correlations, and temporal trends of OA in Israel during 2013-2018, using a nationally representative primary care database. On 31 December 2018, a total of 180,126 OA patients were identified, representing a point prevalence of 115.

Introduction: There is limited evidence on the consumption of analgesics in real-world large cohorts of patients with osteoarthritis (OA), especially in those with comorbidities. We aimed to characterize the use of pharmacological analgesic treatments, evaluate standardized comorbidity rates, and assess treatment trends. Our hypotheses were: (1) OA patients generally consume low and inconsistent pharmacological analgesic treatments; (2) analgesic treatment is often non-congruent with comorbidity-related safety concerns.

Aims: The aim of this study was to describe thyroglobulin levels and iodine intake estimations in a convenience sample of Israeli adults without TD in the Ashkelon District, where SWRO desalination has become the major source of drinking water.
Background: Iodine deficiency (ID) is a significant risk factor for thyroid disease (TD). Recently, there were increases in both selfreported use of TD medication among Israeli adults and the national use of sea water reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalinated water.

Background: Surgical interventions are common in infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Despite our awareness of the broad impact of surgical site infection (SSI), there are little data in neonates. Our objective was to determine the rate and clinical impact of SSI in infants admitted to the NICU.

Epidural hematoma is a potentially life threatening event that demands prompt diagnosis and surgical treatment, usually following head trauma. We present a case of a 9-year-old boy with no history of head trauma, and who was diagnosed with epidural hematoma secondary to frontal sinusitis; and the medical literature was reviewed.

Background And Purpose: Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is used for the repair of ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. Our objective was to introduce laser soldering to this procedure.
Materials And Methods: We developed a system based on a CO2 laser, an infrared detector, and two infrared transmitting optical fibers to obtain temperature-controlled laser soldering of cuts in tissues.

We report a case of a 52-year-old male who developed classical Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) four years after diagnosis of stage Rai II (Binet B) chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The patient was treated with fludarabine and cyclophosphamide with partial response. Subsequently, he presented with a 6-month history of weight loss and fatigue, and 6 weeks of fever, a progressively enlarged liver and elevated serum LDH level.

Random genome screening was initiated in the Sabra rat model of hypertension in search of genes that account for salt sensitivity or salt resistance in terms of the development of hypertension. Female salt-sensitive Sabra hypertension-prone (SBH/y) rats were crossed with male salt-resistant Sabra hypertension-resistant (SBN/y) rats, resulting in an F2 cohort consisting of 100 males and 132 females. Systolic blood pressure (BP) was measured in rats at 6 weeks of age under basal conditions and after 4 weeks of salt loading.

Objectives: Variations in the blood pressure response to salt-loading, the lack of quality control measures, and the need to prepare the strains for genetic studies led to renewed secondary inbreeding of the original colony of Sabra hypertension prone (SBH) and resistant (SBN) rats in order to regain genotypic and phenotypic homogeneity of the substrains.
Methods: Animals from the original breeding colony were selectively inbred for basal normotension and for susceptibility or resistance to the development of hypertension following salt-loading with deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt. Efficacy of inbreeding was tested by genome screening with 416 microsatellite primer sets.
