Background: The ligamentum teres (LT) has received attention in patients undergoing hip arthroscopy (HA) for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Indeed, a better understanding of the function of the LT and its implications for clinical outcomes in the presence of a torn LT is required. This systematic review analyses the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and the complication rate when an intact or torn LT is encountered during HA for FAI.

Background: Patients with chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) can be managed with arthroscopic Broström repair and inferior extensor retinaculum augmentation or arthroscopic assisted lateral ligament reconstruction using ipsilateral semitendinosus autograft, with good functional outcomes in patients. It is unclear whether one offers better outcome that the other. This retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data compared the outcomes of repair and reconstruction.

Objectives: In primary Sjögren's disease (pSjD), in addition to glandular inflammation and atrophy, functional secretion impairment may contribute to dryness. Altered protein distribution and antibodies against aquaporin-5 (anti-AQP5) and poly-U-binding factor 60kDa protein (anti-PUF60) have been reported in pSjD and may be specifically implicated in the glandular secretive processes. This study aimed to assess the occurrence of serum anti-AQP5 and anti-PUF60 antibodies and their correlations with clinical and laboratory features of pSjD.

Introduction: The present meta-analysis compared the efficacy of intra-articular hyaluronic acid (HA) injections in patients with early to mild knee osteoarthritis (OA) (Kellgren Lawrence I-II) versus other commonly injected biologically active compounds using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). The outcomes of interest were the visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario McMaster Osteo-Arthritis Index (WOMAC) scores.
Methods: This study was conducted according to the 2020 PRISMA statement.

The impact of smoking in arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabolar impingement (FAI) is controversial. This systematic review updates and discusses current evidence on the influence of cigarette smoking on the outcome of arthroscopic management of FAI. The outcomes of interest were to compare patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and complications.

Avoiding epidural adhesion following spinal surgery can reduce clinical discomfort and complications. As the severity of epidural adhesion is positively correlated with the inflammatory response, implanting a fibrous membrane after spinal surgery, which can act as a physical barrier to prevent adhesion formation while simultaneously modulates postoperative inflammation, is a promising approach to meet clinical needs. Toward this end, we fabricated an electrospun core-shell fibrous membrane (CSFM) based on polylactic acid (PLA) and infused the fiber core region with the potent natural anti-inflammatory compound docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to substantial disability and health loss. Despite its importance and impact worldwide, no treatment options are currently available to help protect or preserve brain structure and function following injury. In this review, we discuss the potential benefits of using omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (O3 PUFAs) as therapeutic agents in the context of TBI in the paediatric and adult populations.

Salt intake in China was high and a series of salt reduction measures were accordingly carried out recently. Our study aimed to assess the long-term effect of a scale-up community randomized controlled trial (RCT); Methods: Individuals between the ages of 18 and 75, from six provinces in China, were recruited and randomized into control ( = 1347) and intervention ( = 1346) groups. A one-year salt reduction intervention was first implemented in the intervention group, followed by a two-year scale-up intervention in both groups.

Background: Non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary disease (PD) is a significant concern in China, compounding the existing burden of TB. This review aims to summarise the treatment outcomes for NTM-PD in China.
Methods: We reviewed the evidence on NTM-PD, including treatment regimens and clinical outcomes, from 17 studies identified through screening of three Chinese biomedical databases.

Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in children and adolescents with open physes are common.
Areas Of Agreement: Evidence of ACL reconstruction using allografts in children with open physes is limited.
Areas Of Controversy: Whether the outcomes of ACL allograft reconstruction in children and adolescents with open physes are superior to autograft ACL reconstruction is unclear, with contrasting evidence.

Introduction: Global migration has increased in recent decades due to war, conflict, persecutions, and natural disasters, but also secondary to increased opportunities related to work or study. Migrants' risk of tuberculosis (TB) differs by reasons for migration, socioeconomic status, mode of travel and TB risk in transit, TB incidence and healthcare provision in country of origin. Despite advances in TB care for migrants and new treatment strategies, decisions for the management of migrants at risk of TB often rely on expert opinions, rather than clinical evidence.

Background: Immunometabolism is a crucial determinant of immune cell function, influencing cellular activation and differentiation through metabolic pathways. The intricate interplay between metabolism and immune responses is highlighted by the distinct metabolic programs utilized by immune cells to support their functions. Of particular interest is the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), a key metabolic pathway branching out of glycolysis that plays a pivotal role in generating NADPH and pentose sugars crucial for antioxidant defense and biosynthesis.

We focus mainly on the factors that impair gastric motility and cause gastric retention in the pre-operative setting of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). ERCP is a complex endoscopic therapeutic procedure, which demands great skill from the endoscopist but also has recognized complications.

Although calcification in the cardiovascular system is highly studied, the mechanisms behind it are not well understood. Current proposed mechanisms focus on cellular processes leading to, or controlling the unwanted mineralization in soft tissues. However, extracellular components such as collagen and elastin fundamentally regulate the mechanical properties of heart tissues.

In February 2024, medical students in South Korea began submitting leave-of-absence requests in protest of a 65% increase in the number of medical school places in 2025. 14,000 medical students have boycotted classes and 12,000 doctors have resigned en masse. The 2024 Korean medical student collective action highlights the 'power' of medical students, the need for independent medical licensing bodies and the risks to the quality of medical education when places in medical schools are rapidly increased.

Dynamic protein phosphorylation and dephosphorylation play an essential role in cell cycle progression. Kinases and phosphatases are generally highly conserved across eukaryotes, underlining their importance for post-translational regulation of substrate proteins. In recent years, advances in phospho-proteomics have shed light on protein phosphorylation dynamics throughout the cell cycle, and ongoing progress in bioinformatics has significantly improved annotation of specific phosphorylation events to a given kinase.
