Article Synopsis
  • - The study introduces a method to identify natural selection signals in ancient DNA by analyzing trends in allele frequency changes over 14,000 years across a large population, revealing 347 significant genetic loci with strong selection evidence.
  • - Findings indicate that traditional hard sweeps of advantageous mutations have been rare in human evolution, but recently (in the last 10,000 years), many alleles have shown strong directional selection, with notable increases in traits like celiac disease risk and blood type B.
  • - The research suggests coordinated selection on traits affecting body fat, skin color, and cognitive performance, pointing to a shift in adaptive strategies as environments changed, although the exact adaptive traits from the past remain unclear.

Medical Adhesive-Related Skin Injury at 10 Years: An Updated Consensus.

J Wound Ostomy Continence Nurs

September 2024

Andrew Barton, RN, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley, United Kingdom.

Awareness of medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) has increased in the decade since a foundational consensus report was published in 2013. Additional research has provided greater knowledge of the epidemiology of MARSI, along with its assessment, prevention, and management. To summarize knowledge generated in the past decade and review our current understanding of MARSI, a panel of nine clinical experts from four countries (United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, and Brazil) convened to discuss the literature published since the initial 2013 document and develop updated recommendations for clinical practice.

In this paper, we propose mmPose-FK, a novel millimeter wave (mmWave) radar-based pose estimation method that employs a dynamic forward kinematics (FK) approach to address the challenges posed by low resolution, specularity, and noise artifacts commonly associated with mmWave radars. These issues often result in unstable joint poses that vibrate over time, reducing the effectiveness of traditional pose estimation techniques. To overcome these limitations, we integrate the FK mechanism into the deep learning model and develop an end-to-end solution driven by data.

This Letter presents the first study of the energy dependence of diboson polarization fractions in WZ→ℓνℓ^{'}ℓ^{'}(ℓ,ℓ^{'}=e,μ) production. The dataset used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally polarized bosons are defined.

ConspectusChemists have long pursued harnessing light energy and photoexcitation processes for synthetic transformations. Ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) in high-valent metal complexes often triggers bond homolysis, generating oxidized ligand-centered radicals and reduced metal centers. While photoinduced oxidative activations can be enabled, this process, typically seen as photochemical decomposition, remains underexplored in catalytic applications.

Mental time travel is the projection of the mind into the past or future, and relates to experiential aspects of episodic memory, and episodic future thinking. Framing episodic memory and future thinking in this way causes a challenge when studying memory in animals, where demonstration of this mental projection is prevented by the absence of language. However, there is good evidence that non-human animals pass tests of episodic memory that are based on behavioural criteria, meaning a better understanding needs to be had of the relationship between episodic memory and mental time travel.
