Background: "Frank autism," recognizable through the first minutes of an interaction, describes a behavioral presentation of a subset of autistic individuals that is closely tied to social communication challenges, and may be linked to so-called "prototypical autism." To date, there is no research on frank autism presentations of autistic adolescents and young adults, nor individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in childhood who do not meet diagnostic criteria during or after adolescence (loss of autism diagnosis, LAD). In addition, there are currently no data on the factors that drive frank autism impressions in these adolescent groups.

Throughout the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, genetic variation has contributed to the spread and persistence of the virus. For example, various mutations have allowed SARS-CoV-2 to escape antibody neutralization or to bind more strongly to the receptors that it uses to enter human cells. Here, we compared two methods that estimate the fitness effects of viral mutations using the abundant sequence data gathered over the course of the pandemic.

Fluorenylidene-xanthene and related polycyclic systems are typical examples of bistricyclic aromatic enes (BAEs); however, polycyclic systems of fluorenylidene-xanthene are relatively scarce. Here we synthesized a series of novel ladder-type polycyclic systems containing fluorenylidene-xanthene units, differing from the classic Barton's two-fold extrusion reaction. In the new synthetic scheme, the very popular Suzuki reaction was first used to couple the corresponding precursors, then a catalyst-free nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction between Ar-F and Ar-OH groups in the backbone afforded ladder-type -heteroarenes.

To examine whether Ostertagia mossi and Ostertagia dikmansi from white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) are separate species, we obtained DNA sequences for the cytochrome C oxidase subunit I and internal transcribed spacer 2 gene targets for phylogenetic analyses. Neither target revealed separation between morphotypes, confirming they are the same species and providing new data on Ostertagia morphotypes.

The accurate identification of protein-ligand binding sites is of critical importance in understanding and modulating protein function. Accordingly, ligand binding site prediction has remained a research focus for over three decades with over 50 methods developed and a change of paradigm from geometry-based to machine learning. In this work, we collate 13 ligand binding site predictors, spanning 30 years, focusing on the latest machine learning-based methods such as VN-EGNN, IF-SitePred, GrASP, PUResNet, and DeepPocket and compare them to the established P2Rank, PRANK and fpocket and earlier methods like PocketFinder, Ligsite and Surfnet.

The risk for transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) virus from dairy cows to humans is currently low; however, personal protective equipment (PPE) use during work activities on dairy farms has not been well described. PPE use can protect farmworkers when they are working with highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1)-infected cows. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) offered PPE to all Colorado farms before or during an A(H5N1) outbreak in cows in 2024.

Cucurbalsaminones B (1) and C (2) are two abeo-cucurbitane triterpenoids with a unique 5/6/3/6/5-fused ring system and exhibit potent multidrug resistance (MDR)-reversing activity. Herein, we report the first synthesis of these two natural products, both of them were accomplished in 14 steps from commercially available inexpensive resource compound lanosterol. Key features of this synthesis include a biomimetic tandem Wagner-Meerwein type lanostane-to-cucurbitane rearrangement followed by a bioinspired photochemical oxa-di-π-methane (ODPM) rearrangement to complete the skeleton construction and an Eosin Y photoinduced Barton-McCombie deoxygenation to realize the challenging oxidation state adjustment of the sterically hindered C11 position.

The ability to communicate with conspecifics is an adaptive behavior important for survival and reproduction, particularly in lineages that evolved enlarged brains and complex social behavior. In humans, language is supported by a robust, left-lateralized white matter fiber tract called the arcuate fasciculus, which links Broca's and Wernicke's areas, the core neocortical language regions located in the frontal and temporal lobes, respectively. This tract is also present in chimpanzees, less substantial than in humans and either weakly leftwardly-asymmetric or not asymmetric.

An updated checklist of leeches and oligochaetes (Annelida: Clitellata) that parasitize or prey upon wild North American amphibians and reptiles is presented: A total of 25 species grouped in 6 genera, 5 families, and 2 orders, are registered; these infect a total of 39 species of reptiles and 39 species of amphibians in the region. An illustrated identification key for the families and genera listed is proposed. Finally, a new record is made for Mexico: the leech Placobdella parasitica (Say, 1824) (Glossiphoniidae) parasitizing the Mesoamerican slider Trachemys venusta (Gray, 1856) (Emydidae) in the state of Tamaulipas.

Vaccine development targeting rapidly evolving pathogens such as HIV-1 requires induction of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) with conserved paratopes and mutations, and in some cases, the same Ig-heavy chains. The current trial-and-error search for immunogen modifications that improve selection for specific bnAb mutations is imprecise. Here, to precisely engineer bnAb boosting immunogens, we use molecular dynamics simulations to examine encounter states that form when antibodies collide with the HIV-1 Envelope (Env).

The active compounds found in many plants have been widely used in traditional medicine and ritual activities. However, archaeological evidence for the use of such plants, especially in the Palaeolithic period, is limited due to the poor preservation and fragility of seed, fruit, and other botanical macro-remains. In this study, we investigate the presence and possible uses of Ephedra during the Late Pleistocene based on the analysis of exceptionally preserved plant macrofossils recovered from c.

A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.

Background: The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends providers offer individualized healthy behavior interventions for all adults, independent of their risk of cardiovascular disease. While strong evidence exists to support disease-specific programs designed to improve multiple lifestyle behaviors, approaches to adapting these interventions for a broader population are not well established. Digital behavior change interventions (DBCIs) hold promise as a more generalizable and scalable approach to overcome the resource and time limitations that traditional behavioral intervention programs face, especially within an occupational setting.

Background: In recent years, the African spiny mouse Acomys cahirinus has been shown to regenerate a remarkable array of severe internal and external injuries in the absence of a fibrotic response, including the ability to regenerate full-thickness skin excisions, ear punches, severe kidney injuries, and complete transection of the spinal cord. While skeletal muscle is highly regenerative in adult mammals, Acomys displays superior muscle regeneration properties compared with standard laboratory mice following several injuries, including serial cardiotoxin injections of skeletal muscle and volumetric muscle loss (VML) of the panniculus carnosus muscle following full-thickness excision injuries. VML is an extreme muscle injury defined as the irrecoverable ablation of muscle mass, most commonly resulting from combat injuries or surgical debridement.
