The neurobiology of bilingualism is hotly debated. The present study examines whether normalized cortical measurements can be used to reliably classify monolinguals versus bilinguals in a structural MRI dataset of Farsi-English bilinguals and English monolinguals. A decision tree classifier classified bilinguals with an average correct classification rate of 85%, and monolinguals with a rate of 71.

The effects of Korean red ginseng extract (KRGE) on autoimmune disorders of the nervous system are not clear. We investigated whether KRGE has a beneficial effect on acute and chronic experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Pretreatment (daily from 10 days before immunization with myelin basic protein peptide) with KRGE significantly attenuated clinical signs and loss of body weight and was associated with the suppression of spinal demyelination and glial activation in acute EAE rats, while onset treatment (daily after the appearance of clinical symptoms) did not.

Introduction: Seizures are known to perturb circadian rhythms in humans as well as in animal models of epilepsy. However, it is unknown whether treatment of the underlying epilepsy restores normal biologic rhythms. We asked whether: (1) seizure activity is characterized by diurnal rhythmicity, (2) chronically epileptic mice exhibit impaired rest-activity rhythms, and (3) treatment with the anticonvulsant ketogenic diet (KD) improves such perturbations.
