Article Synopsis
  • Soluble CD30 (sCD30) is a potential biomarker for monitoring the activated immune response in transplant patients, specifically in relation to acute rejection of allografts.
  • This meta-analysis reviewed 18 studies involving 1,453 patients from various electronic databases to assess the relationship between post-transplant sCD30 levels and acute rejection at different time points.
  • Results indicated a strong association between elevated sCD30 levels and acute kidney rejection across all time intervals post-transplant, with deceased donor transplants showing a higher correlation to increased sCD30 levels compared to living donor transplants.

Context: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication after kidney transplantation (KT), especially in recipients from deceased donors. Urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (u-NGAL) is an early and sensitive marker of AKI after transplantation.

Objectives: We assessed the renoprotective effect of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on u-NGAL levels as an early prognostic marker of graft function immediately after transplantation.

In psychiatric settings, aggressive events frequently occur during therapy. The use of a proper standard scale to register aggression can facilitate the assessment and control of aggression and help reduce its frequency and severity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Staff Observation Aggression Scale-Revised (SOAS-R).

Objectives: Different studies have been conducted on the role of curcumin in health since having multiple properties, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Due to the lack of studies regarding curcumin effects on obese patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), our protocol was designed to assess nanocurcumin impacts on blood sugar, lipids, inflammatory indices, insulin resistance and liver function, especially by nesfatin.

Setting: This trial will be conducted in the Oil Company central hospital of Tehran, Iran with a primary level of care.

In the current study, a new tetrahydroingenol diterpene isolated from Euphorbia erythradenia, 7,13-diacetyl-5-angeloyl-20-nicotinyl-3-propionyl-1,2,6,7-tetrahydroingenol (DANPT), were tested for the molecular mechanism of its anti-cancer activity in two human melanoma cancer cell lines, A375 and HMCB. DANPT was found cytotoxic against A375 and HMCB cells with IC50 value of 15.37±2.

The link between TLR7 signaling and hepatitis B virus infection.

Toll-Like Receptors (TLRs) play crucial roles in recognition and induction of appropriate immune responses against viral infections, including hepatitis B. TLR7 detects intracellular viral single strand RNA which leads to the activation of several pro-inflammatory transcription factors via the MYD88 dependent pathway. Patients with prolonged infectious forms of hepatitis B, including active and inactive chronic forms, are unable to clear HBV from hepatocytes completely.

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is likely to be more prevalent in certain populations and occupational groups, such as municipal solid waste workers (MSWWs).

Objectives: The current study aimed to estimate the prevalence of HBV and its risk factors among MSWWs compared to other municipal employees not exposed to waste.

Patients And Methods: The current cross-sectional study included 654 municipal employees in Zahedan (south-eastern Iran).

Background: Despite advances in the application of needle free devices in medical procedure, there is a paucity of knowledge on the efficacy of the jet injector for suturing skin wounds.

Aims: Our study aimed to compare the severity of pain and time to initiation of anaesthesia between two methods of local anaesthesia for skin suturing of small facial wounds.

Methods: We conducted a double blind randomised clinical trial between December 2012 and February 2013 at a university hospital in Tehran, Iran.

Introduction: The efficacy and safety of pegylated and standard interferon (IFN) have been scrutinized in meta-analyses; however, factors associated with hepatitis C viral response in patients on hemodialysis are not well investigated.

Materials And Methods: We evaluated factors that could be associated with sustained virological response (SVR) to pegylated or standard IFN monotherapy in patients on hemodialysis with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, by performing a systematic review of the literature with a meta-analysis of clinical trials. We used both Mantel-Haenszel and DerSimonian and Laird random effects models, with heterogeneity and sensitivity analyses.
