Raisins are so popular in the human diet as a nutritional and sweet snack. The quality of this foodstuff depends on drying conditions. To minimize ochratoxin A (OTA) content and yeast and mold content (YMC) in raisins with favorable physicochemical and sensory properties, the response surface methodology (RSM) and the face-centered central composite design (FCCD) were utilized.

Background: Being overweight/having obesity is a prevalent condition not only among the general population but also among individuals with special occupations such as police officers, where fitness is often a necessity. The present study's aim was to assess how much a psychoeducational intervention based on social cognitive theory (SCT) would be helpful for encouraging weight loss behaviors among police officers.

Methods: In a randomized control trial, 102 police officers who were overweight or had obesity voluntarily registered for a weight loss program and were assigned to either an intervention or control group.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is crucial for maintaining calcium balance, lipid biosynthesis, and protein folding. Disruptions in ER homeostasis, often due to the accumulation of misfolded or unfolded proteins, lead to ER stress, which plays a significant role in various diseases, especially cancer. Urological cancers, which account for high male mortality worldwide, pose a persistent challenge due to their incurability and tendency to develop drug resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to explore the connection between digestive diseases and COVID-19, focusing on patients with and without gastrointestinal symptoms.
  • It involved a case-control design with 190 COVID-19 patients divided into two groups: one with gastrointestinal symptoms and one without, using noninvasive diagnostic methods to identify infections.
  • Results showed a significant prevalence of infection in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms, suggesting that this should be considered when treating COVID-19 infected individuals.

To discriminate between different alcoholic, aldehyde, and ester species of urine samples, a colorimetric sensor array consisting of dopamine-capped copper-silver bimetallic nanoparticles (Ag@Cu BMNPs) combined with 12 organic dyes is introduced. Based on the sensing mechanism, the nanozyme catalyzed the reactions of oxidation, dehydrogenation, and hydrolysis of volatile organic compounds. The products could alter the amount of hydronium ions in the detection media, making a variation in the color intensity of pH-sensitive indicators.

Article Synopsis
  • Nonviral vectors like liposomes are being researched for delivering genes specifically to cancer cells.
  • Liposomes are tiny bubbles made of fats that help protect and transport genetic materials, making them better than older methods that often missed their targets.
  • This review looks at how liposomes can improve gene therapy for cancer, what challenges they face, and what new ideas might make them even better in the future.

Background And Aims: Mortality caused by carbon monoxide every year threatens the lives of Iranian people, whose spatial and temporal distribution is not known for formulating prevention policies and interventions. This study was conducted to determine the trend of mortality rate changes due to carbon monoxide CO poisoning by Spatio-temporal analysis in Iran from 2011 to 2018.

Methods: An ecological study was conducted based on data from the reports at the National Center for Statistics of Iran for 8 years from 21 March 2011 to 21 March 2018.

Key Clinical Message: The modified nail folding approach, a new surgical technique, has been shown to be safe and effective for the treatment of subungual glomus tumors, providing clinicians with a new treatment option for patients with this condition.

Abstract: Glomus tumors (GTs) are rare benign tumors that originate from the glomus body in the skin of the fingertips, toes, and nail beds. GTs are more prevalent in women than in men and can occur sporadically or as part of an inherited condition known as multiple GTs.

The present study aims to design and synthesise novel uncharged aldoximes and explore their reactivation abilities, structures, descriptors, and mechanisms of action, as well as assessing the interactions and stabilities in the active site of paraoxon-inhibited acetylcholinesterase enzyme using computational studies and assay. The comprehensive computational studies including quantum chemical, molecular dynamics simulations and molecular docking were conducted on paraoxon-inhibited human acetylcholinesterase to investigate the reactivation ability of the novel aldoximes and compare them with pralidoxime as a reactivator model molecule.

Osteochondromas (OCs) are developmental anomalies that originate from the periosteum and typically form during enchondral ossification near the joints. Retro-patellar OC caused by exostosis forms in various intracapsular, intra-tendon, and joint-adjacent positions within the knee joint. In this case, a 19-year-old male presented with swelling and a mass in his left knee, which raised suspicion of bone tumors.

In this study, a novel and efficient drug delivery system is proposed for the enhancement of antimicrobial properties of antibiotic medications such as vancomycin (VCM) and levofloxacin (OFX). The architecture of the designed drug carrier is based on halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) with a rolled-laminate shape, suitable for the encapsulation of drug and further release. In order to make them capable for magnetic direction to the target tissue, the exterior surface of the tubes is composed of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeO NPs), an process.
