The basolateral amygdala (BLA) contains adrenergic receptors, which are known to be involved in stress, anxiety, and memory. The objective of this study was to explore whether inhibition of α-adrenergic receptors (by phentolamine, an α-adrenergic receptor antagonist) in the BLA can reduce foot-shock stress-induced anxiety-like behavior, memory deficits, and long-term potentiation (LTP) deficits within the CA1 region of the rat hippocampus. Forty male Wistar rats were assigned to the intact, control, stress (Str), Phent (phentolamine), and Phent + Str groups.

Exploring the Well-being Experiences of Patients Following Heart Valve Replacement Surgery through the Biopsychosocial-spiritual Model: A Qualitative Content Analysis.

Int J Community Based Nurs Midwifery

October 2024

Nursing and Midwifery Care Research Center, Clinical Research Development Unit of Akbar Hospital, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran.

Background: Heart valve replacement (HVR) surgery represents a significant life event that can potentially impact the well-being (WB) of patients; however, there is a shortage of research on the understanding of WB in HVR patients. This study aims to elucidate the WB experiences of patients who have undergone HVR surgery.

Methods: A qualitative directed content analysis approach was employed, focusing on patients who had undergone HVR surgery at hospitals affiliated with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran from March 2021 to June 2022.

  • Glioblastoma (GBM) is a serious brain cancer with poor survival rates, prompting research into targeted treatments like the arazyme-interleukin-13 (AraA-IL13) fusion protein.
  • Researchers designed and synthesized a chimeric gene for AraA-IL13, optimized its expression, and evaluated its characteristics but found it had no proteolytic activity or cytotoxic effects on GBM cell lines (U251 and T98G) even at high concentrations.
  • The study concluded that the lack of activity may stem from structural issues in the protein, affecting its ability to function properly.

Cancer is a global health problem despite the most developed therapeutic modalities. The delivery of specific therapeutic agents to a target increases the effectiveness of cancer treatment by reducing side effects and post-treatment issues. Our aim in this study was to design a recombinant protein consisting of nanobody molecules and exotoxin that targets the surface GRP78 receptor on tumor cells.

  • Cervical cancer is commonly treated with Doxorubicin, but researchers are exploring oncolytic virus therapy, specifically Newcastle disease virus (NDV), to enhance treatment effectiveness and boost the immune response against tumors.
  • In a study with mouse models, the combined treatment of NDV and Doxo resulted in better survival rates and slower tumor growth compared to control groups, indicating a potential synergy between the two therapies.
  • The combination therapy not only increased key immune markers in the body but also improved overall tumor-fighting capabilities, suggesting NDV could serve as a promising adjunct to traditional chemotherapy for cervical cancer.

  • Accurate differentiation between lung adenocarcinoma (AC) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is vital for proper treatment, with microRNAs (miRNAs) showing potential as biomarkers to distinguish between the two types.
  • The study utilized data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and employed various machine learning techniques to analyze miRNA expressions, validating findings through RT-qPCR and exploring their clinical significance.
  • Five specific miRNAs (miR-205-3p, miR-205-5p, miR-944, miR-375, and miR-326) were identified as potential biomarkers, with particular combinations correlating with survival outcomes in both AC and SCC, and involvement in important signaling
