Article Synopsis
  • Various factors, including anatomical, physiological, and pathological aspects, contribute to gingival recession, and existing root coverage procedures often struggle with Class III and IV cases.
  • A newer method called the pedicled buccal fat pad (PBFP) has been developed for treating severe gingival recession and offers advantages due to its vascularized tissue and ability to maintain structure over time.
  • This case report focuses on employing the PBFP technique for root coverage in a Class IV gingival recession at the maxillary right first molar.

Article Synopsis
  • Statin treatment, especially simvastatin, not only lowers cholesterol but also shows antimicrobial effects, potentially improving survival in severe bacterial infections.
  • The study aimed to assess the antimicrobial activity of simvastatin against key periodontal bacteria, P. gingivalis and A. actinomycetemcomitans, using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing.
  • Results indicated that simvastatin effectively inhibits both bacteria, suggesting it could be used as a dual-action treatment for patients with high cholesterol and periodontal disease.

Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Rural Dental College and Hospital, PIMS University, Loni, Maharashtra, India.

Oroantral fistula (OAF) and oral candidiasis are common to come across as separate individual lesions. However when candida organisms infect maxillary sinus through OAF then diagnosis should not be limited to clinical diagnosis only. In such situation role of cytological examination can prove to be fruitful.

Context: Age estimation using radiographs by Kvaal and coauthors has shown to be reliable method, possible variation in ethnicity restricts its use in sample Indian population.

Aims: Thus this study was aimed at evaluating the accuracy of age estimation formula of Kvaal and coauthors developed for Norwegian population.

Materials And Methods: From the subjects (1-100) between the age group 20 and 50 years digitized intraoral periapical (IOPA) radiograph of maxillary central incisors was taken and length and width of the teeth were measured and their ratios were calculated and applied to Kvaal and coauthors formula.

Background And Objectives: Assessing only the clinical and radiographic parameters for evaluation of dental implants may not be enough as they often reflect extensive inflammatory changes in the periodontal tissues. As peri-implant crevicular fluid (PICF) can give us a more prompt and objective measure of the disease activity, the purpose of this case series is to assess the peri-implant health status of single tooth dental implants not only clinically and radiographically but also biochemically.

Materials And Methods: Thirteen patients were subjected to dental implants at single edentulous sites using a conventional surgical approach.
