Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma: A rare case report.

Natl J Maxillofac Surg

July 2021

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere, Karnataka, India.

Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is a rare type of sarcoma that is characterized by benign-appearing histologic features but a paradoxically aggressive clinical course. Recognition of this lesion is important because of its indolent but metastasizing nature. These tumors generally occur in young to middle-aged adults, sometimes in children, but rarely in the high-aged adults.

Liquid or injectable platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a second-generation platelet concentrate that is completely autologous and free of external additives, like bovine thrombin and calcium chloride. Additionally, it is the only one to be obtained in a liquid form among the second-generation platelet concentrates. This allows for wide applications such as maximizing injections or mixing with biomaterials such as bone grafts or antibiotics.

Introduction: Exfoliative cytology is becoming increasingly important in the early diagnosis of oral cancers, as a procedure for obtaining cell samples, which can be analyzed by sophisticated diagnostic techniques. Quantitative techniques, based on the evaluation of parameters such as nucleus area, cytoplasm area and nucleus-to-cytoplasm area ratio, may increase the sensitivity of exfoliative cytology for early diagnosis of oral cancers, since these techniques are precise, objective and reproducible.

Objectives: This study was undertaken to employ the cytomorphometric quantitative techniques to determine the value of exfoliative cytology and to assess this method to analyze the effectiveness in providing additional diagnostic test for the detection of early oral malignancy.

Along with the advent of dentistry, the ideal restoration of an endodontically treated tooth has been a widely discussed and controversial topic. Coronal rehabilitation of an endodontically treated tooth is quite a challenge for clinicians as considerations should be taken for its minimally invasive preparation and the retention and stability of the restoration.
