Background: Intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) is a rare arteriovenous malformation with potentially severe complications. This study investigates the efficacy and safety of transarterial embolization (TAE) in treating petrous dAVFs through a retrospective analysis and literature review.
Case Description: A retrospective analysis of six patients with petrous dAVFs treated with TAE was conducted, accompanied by a systematic literature review to evaluate treatment outcomes.

Obesity remains a significant health burden worldwide, requiring diverse and effective treatment strategies. The intragastric balloon (IGB), developed in the 1980s, offers a non-surgical option for weight management. Despite a decrease in usage, the IGB procedure continues to be an option for patients both domestically and abroad.

Background Histotripsy is a nonthermal, nonionizing, noninvasive, focused US technique that relies on cavitation for mechanical tissue breakdown at the focal point. Preclinical data have shown its safety and technical success in the ablation of liver tumors. Purpose To evaluate the safety and technical success of histotripsy in destroying primary or metastatic liver tumors.

Objective: Lower extremity acute limb ischemia (LE-ALI) is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, and a burden on patient quality of life (QoL). There is limited medium- to long-term evidence on mechanical aspiration thrombectomy (MT) in patients with LE-ALI. The STRIDE study was designed to assess safety and efficacy of MT using the Indigo Aspiration System in patients with LE-ALI.

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy has transformed the treatment landscape for hematological malignancies, showing high efficacy in patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) disease and otherwise poor prognosis in the pre-CAR-T era. These therapies have been usually administered in the inpatient setting due to the risk of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). However, there is a growing interest in the transition to outpatient administration due to multiple reasons.

Nutritional deficiencies represent a prevalent concern among individuals with obesity, stemming from suboptimal dietary habits, chronic inflammation, and preoperative weight reduction efforts. Bariatric surgical interventions, employing either restrictive, malabsorptive or a combination of the two methods, further compound these deficiencies. Commonly observed nutritional deficits following bariatric surgeries include vitamin B, vitamin D, thiamine, folate, iron, and protein deficiencies.

Intussusception in adults is rare and is often associated with a pathologic lead point. While colonic adenocarcinoma is a common cause, well-differentiated colonic neuroendocrine tumors are exceedingly rare. We present a unique case of an ileocolic intussusception due to a distal ascending colonic neuroendocrine tumor, emphasizing the diagnostic challenges and importance of prompt intervention.

In this systematic review, the perioperative outcomes of total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) and volatile anesthesia were compared in obese adults (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) undergoing elective surgery. The review analyzed data from 12 randomized-controlled trials involving 935 patients, sourced from PubMed/MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), Cochrane, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. The focus was on intraoperative vital signs, emergence time, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), duration of post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) stay, and ICU admission rates.

Purpose: Whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT) is a common treatment for brain metastases and is frequently associated with decline in neurocognitive functioning (NCF). The e4 allele of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene is associated with increased risk of Alzheimer disease and NCF decline associated with a variety of neurologic diseases and insults. APOE carrier status has not been evaluated as a risk factor for onset time or extent of NCF impairment in patients with brain metastases treated with WBRT.

Objective: This study develops new machine learning architectures that are more adept at detecting interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) in scalp EEG. A comparison of results using the average precision (AP) metric is made with the proposed models on two datasets obtained from Baptist Hospital of Miami and Temple University Hospital.
Methods: Applying graph neural networks (GNNs) on functional connectivity (FC) maps of different frequency sub-bands to yield a novel architecture we call FC-GNN.

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum is a rare, benign adnexal neoplasm most often found on the scalp, head, and neck region as a solitary hairless plaque, verruca, or nodule. Lesions may arise sporadically or from a pre-existing sebaceous nevus. We report the case of a 56-year-old female who presented with an indurated multilobulated cystic mass in the left buttock region.

Intussusception is an uncommon cause of bowel obstruction in adults. Most cases are associated with a pathologic lead point, commonly attributable to benign or malignant tumors. Malignant skin melanoma can metastasize to the gastrointestinal tract and lead to significant morbidity and mortality if left undiagnosed or untreated.

The risks of malignancy for cytologic categories in renal biopsy specimens differ from the risks in most other sites. There are obvious areas in which cytopathologists can do better at classifying these cases, and the routine use of immunohistochemistry and core-needle biopsy may improve the accuracy of the classification of these specimens.

Lipoleiomyomas are rare, fatty variants of leiomyomas (commonly referred to as fibroid), which are frequently found in the uterine corpus and cervix. Here, we present a case of a robotic inguinal hernia repair with resection of an incidental lipoleiomyoma. A 74-year-old woman presented to the office with complaints of pain and a palpable mass in the right inguinal region.

Background: Futile recanalization (FR) is de fined as a poor 90-day outcome or lack of neurological improvement at 24 h despite successful recanalization in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with large vessel occlusion (LVO) treated by mechanical throbectomy (MT). The No-reflow phenomenon (NRP) could be a possible cause of FR, but its evidence in AIS patients is scarce.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 185 digital subtraction angiographies (DSA) of AIS patients with anterior circulation LVO after endovascular treatment.

Background Esophagectomy is the surgical excision of part or all of the esophagus and is associated with both common and serious complications. Various comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, smoking, and congestive heart failure (CHF), have been detected in individuals who have undergone esophagectomy. This study investigates the association of baseline characteristics and comorbidities with postoperative complications.

Background: Recent evidence suggests tenecteplase at an intravenous dose of 0.25 mg/kg is as safe and efficacious as intravenous alteplase standard dose and demonstrates a more favorable pharmacokinetic profile for treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
Objective: The purpose was to compare the safety and efficacy of alteplase versus tenecteplase for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke at a large community hospital health system following conversion in the preferred formulary thrombolytic.
