Pathogenic bacteria and treatment resistance in older cardiovascular disease patients with lung infection and risk prediction model.

This study analyzes the distribution of pathogenic bacteria and their antimicrobial susceptibilities in elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases to identify risk factors for pulmonary infections. A risk prediction model is established, aiming to serve as a clinical tool for early prevention and management of pulmonary infections in this vulnerable population. A total of 600 patients were categorized into infected and uninfected groups.

Background: Skeletal maturity can evaluate the growth and development potential of children and provide a guide for the management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Recent studies have demonstrated the advantages of the Humeral Head Ossification System (HHOS) and the Proximal Femur Maturity Index (PFMI), based on standard scoliosis films, in the management of AIS patients. We further assessed the HHOS and the PFMI method's reliability in the interrater and intrarater.

MIR503 host gene (MIR503HG) acts as an important tumor suppressor in many human cancers, but its role and regulatory mechanism in ovarian cancer need to be further studied. In this study, lower expressed MIR503HG was observed in ovarian tumor tissues and cells than in adjacent normal tissues and normal human ovarian epithelial cells. MIR503HG overexpression impaired the proliferative, invasive and EMT properties, and facilitated cell apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells.

Inhibition of ALKBH5-mediated m A modification of PPARG mRNA alleviates H/R-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in placenta trophoblast.

The alpha-ketoglutarate-dependent (ALKB) homolog 5 (ALKBH5), an m A demethylase, has been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia (PE), but the exact mechanism requires further investigation. RT-qPCR or Western blotting were used to determine ALKBH5 and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG) expression in placentas from PE patients and normal volunteers, as well as in HTR-8/SVneo cells treated with hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R). Our results showed that the expression of ALKBH5 was significantly upregulated and PPARG was downregulated in preeclamptic placentas and H/R-treated cells.

Gigantol inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis by regulating DEK in non-small cell lung cancer.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a common type of cancer, with a mortality of >80% worldwide. Gigantol is a bibenzyl compound that displays anticancer activity. The aim of the present study was to determine the biological activity of gigantol in NSCLC and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism of its action.

Changes and Prognostic Value of lncRNA CASC9 in Patients with Advanced Colon Cancer after Chemotherapy.

Objective: Colon cancer (CC) shows a gradual increasing incidence in recent years, and chemotherapy is a frequently adopted treatment for patients with middle or advanced colon cancer (ACC), but it lacks prognostic markers after CC.

Methods: The changes of lncRNA CASC9 in 58 patients with CC were determined using a real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) assay before and after chemotherapy, and the correlation of serum lncRNA CASC9 with efficacy of FOLFOX4 regimen (oxaliplatin + calcium folinate + fluorouracil) was analyzed. The patients were followed up to understand the association of lncRNA CASC9 with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS).

TMEM48 promotes cell proliferation and invasion in cervical cancer via activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.

Transmembrane proteins (TMEMs), spanning the entire width of lipid bilayers and anchored to them permanently, exist in diverse cell types to implement a series of essential physiological functions. Recently, TMEM48, a member of the TMEM family, has been demonstrated to be closely associated with tumorigenesis. However, little is known about the specific role of TMEM48 in cervical cancer (CC).

Effects of miR-152-Mediated Targeting of SOCS3 on Hepatic Insulin Resistance in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Mice.

Background: The present study explored the effects of miR-152-mediated targeting of suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) on hepatic insulin resistance (HIR) in mice with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Healthy SPF C57BL/6J mice were selected to establish a GDM model.

Methods: Mice were divided into seven groups as follows: Normal group, Model group, NC-mimic group, miR-152 mimic group, NC-pcDNA3.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a specific disorder of pregnancy with significant morbidity and mortality to the mother and the fetus. It has been reported that abnormal regulation of trophoblast cells contributes to the development of PE. LIM and SH3 Protein 2 (LASP2) belongs to nebulin protein family of actin-binding protein that has broad biological functions.

Evaluation of some cellular biomarker proteins, oxidative stress and clinical indices as results of laparoscopic appendectomy for perforated appendicitis in children.

Laparoscopic appendectomy for perforated appendicitis in children has the advantages of quick recovery, little influence of inflammatory and oxidative stress and low infection rate. Altogether 115 children with perforated appendicitis treated in our hospital from June 2018 to August 2019 were selected and divided into two groups according to different treatment methods. Laparoscopic appendectomy was used as the research group (RG) (67 cases) and open appendectomy (48 cases) as the control group (CG).

Long Noncoding RNA VIM Antisense RNA 1 (VIM-AS1) Plays an Important Role in Development of Preeclampsia by Regulation of Epithelial Mesenchymal Transition.

BACKGROUND Long noncoding RNAs play important roles in the development of various diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the effects and mechanism of VIM antisense RNA 1 (VIM-AS1) in the development of preeclampsia. MATERIAL AND METHODS HTR-8/SVneo cells were divided into normal control (NC), Model, Blank, and VIM-AS1 groups.

Cytotoxicity study of benzo[a]pyrene on blood cells of Wistar rat in vitro.

The effect of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) on Wistar rat lymphocyte activity, lymphocyle membrane integrity and erythrocytes hemolysis were examined using the MTT assay, the release of the lactate dehydrogenase (LD) and the hemoglobin release respectively in vitro. The results showed that lymphocyte activity had no remarkable response to BaP after a low dose of exposure. But the membrane change was found after higher dose of BaP exposure, and the significant release of LD was observed.
