Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD) is a rare but life-threatening disease that occurs after organ transplantation. Histopathology is the gold standard for the diagnosis of PTLD. Because of its rarity and atypical symptoms, many patients are misdiagnosed with liver abscess, liver cancer, or missed diagnosis long before pathological diagnosis is obtained, thus delaying treatment.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a leading cause of cancer‑related death due to its aggressive nature and metastatic potential. The present study aimed to explore the expression of phospholipid phosphatase 2 (PPAP2C) in LUAD, and its effect on cell migration and invasion, with a particular focus on its association with the ERK/JNK signaling pathway and epithelial‑mesenchymal transition (EMT). The expression of PPAP2C in LUAD was analyzed using data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database.

Background: Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a common neurological disorder, and circulating plasma proteins with causal genetic evidence are a major source of therapeutic targets. This study identifies several potential plasma proteins that are causally related to PN risk, providing new insights into protein-mediated pathogenesis of PN and potential targets for novel therapies.

Methods: To identify potential therapeutic targets for PN, we employed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to identify plasma proteins associated with six common PN.

Given the rising incidence of anal cryptitis (AC) in recent years, it is of great significance to find an effective and safe treatment scheme to ensure the healthy life of patients. In this study, we explored the clinical efficacy of Huangbaiye Tuji combined with Longdan Xiegan Decoction (LDXGD) for AC and observed changes in patients' cellular immune function, which can provide a new reference for future treatment of AC. By comparison, we found that compared with Huangbaiye Tuji treatment alone, its combination with LDXGD had better clinical efficacy and high safety, contributing to more significant relief of inflammatory reaction and oxidative stress.

Background: Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) forms a prevalent symptom of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and narcolepsy type 1 (NT1), while the latter might always be overlooked. Machine learning (ML) models can enable the early detection of these conditions, which has never been applied for diagnosis of NT1.

Objective: The study aimed to develop ML prediction models to help non-sleep specialist clinicians identify high probability of comorbid NT1 in patients with OSA early.

Background: Major depression disorder (MDD) forms a common psychiatric comorbidity among patients with narcolepsy type 1 (NT1), yet its impact on patients with NT1 is often overlooked by neurologists. Currently, there is a lack of effective methods for accurately predicting MDD in patients with NT1.

Objective: This study utilized machine learning (ML) algorithms to identify critical variables and developed the prediction model for predicting MDD in patients with NT1.

Effect of CO2 fractional laser combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor gel on skin barrier.

Medicine (Baltimore)

March 2024

Dermatological Department (Department of Cosmetic Dermatology, Department of Surgery of Traditional Chinese Medicine), Baoji Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Baoji, Shaanxi, China.

To evaluate the impact of CO2 fractional laser combined with recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) gel on skin barrier in acne scar patients. In a retrospective analysis, we examined 105 acne scar patients admitted between July 2018 and August 2021. Of these, 51 received only CO2 fractional laser (control group), while 54 underwent a combination of CO2 fractional laser and rhEGF gel (observation group).

Background: Progressive resistance inspiratory muscle training is the principle of inspiratory air-flow resistance loading training to restore diaphragm function, increase alveolar compliance, and further improve respiratory function. However, there is a lack of research on the effectiveness of progressive resistance inspiratory training in post-lobectomy rehabilitation and the accurate assessment of lung volumes.

Methods: In this study, 79 subjects diagnosed with lung cancer and undergoing thoracoscopic lobectomy were retrospectively analyzed.

Pancreatic injury (pancreatitis, amylase/lipase elevation) is a rare adverse event of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). With the high number of clinical studies on ICIs, the incidence and characteristics of associated pancreatic injury (PI) need to be reevaluated. A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the incidence of PI in cancer patients who received ICIs in randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between fibular head height and the incidence and severity of osteoarthritis associated with varus knee deformity. The fibular head height, joint line convergence angle (JLCA) and medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA) were measured in a three-dimensional model. Ordinal multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between fibular head height and Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grade.
