Given the recent availability of a new therapy for XLH, a retrospective analysis of the most recent 261 Chinese patients with XLH evaluated at Peking Union Medical College Hospital was conducted. Clinical, biochemical, radiographic studies, as well as genetic analyses, including Sanger sequencing for point mutations and Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA) to detect large deletions/duplications were employed.

Identification of a nine-miRNA signature for the prognosis of Uveal Melanoma.

The present study aims to construct a miRNA-based predictive signature of Uveal melanoma (UM) based on the database of the cancer genome atlas (TCGA). We obtained miRNA expression profiles and clinical information of 80 UM patients from TCGA, and randomly divided them into a training and a testing set. After data processing and forward screening, a total of 204 miRNAs with prognostic value were then examined by the Cox proportional hazard regression model in the training set.

Background: The purpose of the research was to determine the efficacy of the Caprini risk assessment model for the guidance of prophylactic treatments for a 3-year period in the burn center of the Inner Mongolia region.

Methods: From July 2014 to August 2017, the Caprini score for every admitted patient was calculated to evaluate venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk. Subjects with a Caprini score between 0 and 2 were not administered a chemical VTE prophylaxis, and subjects with a score of 3 and above were administered low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH).

BACKGROUND Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) recently have been implicated in the pathological processes of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, LncRNADisease database and PubMed database were used to screen myocardial infraction (MI)-related lncRNAs and to investigate the diagnostic role of lncRNAs in ST-segment elevation myocardial infraction (STEMI). MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty-six patients with STEMI and 40 healthy controls were included in the study.

Use of glucocorticoids in patients with COPD exacerbations in China: a retrospective observational study.

Background: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are common in patients with underlying moderate to severe COPD and are associated with increased health and economic burden. International and Chinese guidelines recommend using glucocorticoids for the management of AECOPD because glucocorticoid therapy has been shown to benefit clinical outcomes. However, only scant data are available for current status of glucocorticoid therapy in hospitalized AECOPD patients in China.

Dendritic cells (DCs) have been recognized as major targets of immunosuppressive therapies for their significant roles in connecting innate and adaptive immunity. Isorhamnetin (Iso), one of the most common flavonoid compounds extracted from the Chinese herb Hippophae rhamnoides L, has been proved to have anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant activities in many chronic inflammatory conditions, but the effects of Iso on DCs have rarely been reported before. Here we investigated the functions and the mechanisms of Iso on bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs) including maturation, phagocytosis, and trafficking.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) have been found to participate in the development and malignant progression of human cancers by negatively mediating the expression of their target genes. Recently, miR‑33b has been reported to be involved in multiple types of human cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the underlying regulatory mechanisms of miR‑33b in HCC cell growth and metastasis remain largely unclear.

In this study, we assessed the association between the EFEMP1 rs3791679 polymorphism and glioma risk in a Chinese Han population. A total of 94 glioma patients and 206 healthy controls who conformed to the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited from Baogang Hospital between March 2012 and October 2014. The EFEMP1 rs3791679 gene polymorphism was assessed using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay and the results were statistically analyzed using SPSS Statistics 17.

Early sorafenib-related adverse events predict therapy response of TACE plus sorafenib: A multicenter clinical study of 606 HCC patients.

The purpose of our study was to test the hypothesis that sorafenib-related dermatologic adverse events (AEs) as an early biomarker can predict the long-term outcomes following the combination therapy of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus sorafenib (TACE-S). The intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma patients who received either TACE-S or TACE-alone treatment were consecutively included into analysis. In the TACE-S group, patients with ≥ grade 2 dermatologic AEs within the first month of sorafenib initiation were defined as responders; whereas those with < grade 2 were defined as nonresponders.

Recent studies have demonstrated that N-Myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2) may reduce the metastatic potential of breast cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma cells by regulating the expression of CD24, which is expressed in a large variety of solid tumors. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical value of NDRG2 and CD24 expression in primary gallbladder carcinoma (GBC).
