Severe trauma or chronic wounds can deplete the keratinocyte stem cells (KSCs) present in the epidermal basal layer or inhibit their migration leading to compromised wound healing. Supplementing KSCs is the key to solution while lineage reprogramming provides a new approach to acquiring KSCs. Through direct lineage reprogramming, induced KSCs (iKSCs) can be produced from somatic cells, which exhibit great application potential.

Cyanuric acid (CA) is reported to induce nephrotoxicity but its toxic effect is not fully known. Prenatal CA exposure causes neurodevelopmental deficits and abnormal behavior in spatial learning ability. Dysfunction of the acetyl-cholinergic system in neural information processing is correlated with spatial learning impairment and was found in the previous reports of CA structural analogue melamine.

Background: Lynch syndrome (LS) is caused by a germline mutation in one of the mismatch repair genes (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2) or in the EPCAM gene. The definition of Lynch syndrome is based on clinical, pathological, and genetic findings. Therefore, the identification of susceptibility genes is essential for accurate risk assessment and tailored screening programs in LS monitoring.

Polystyrene microplastics (mic-PS) have become harmful pollutants that attracted substantial attention about their potential toxicity. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is the third reported endogenous gas transmitter with protective functions on numerous physiologic responses. Nevertheless, the roles for mic-PS on skeletal systems in mammals and the protective effects of exogenous HS are still indistinct.

Critically infected patients with COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) are prone to develop sepsis-related coagulopathy as a result of a robust immune response. The mechanism underlying the relationship between sepsis and COVID-19 is largely unknown. LMWH (low molecular weight heparin) exhibits both anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulating properties that result in a better prognosis of severely ill patients with COVID-19 co-associated with sepsis-induced coagulopathy or with a higher D-dimer value.

Objective: Tumor hypoxia is frequently observed in primary solid malignancies, but the hypoxic status of tumor cells floating in body cavity effusions is largely unknown, especially in patients. This study was to observe the hypoxia and proliferation status of cancer cells floating in effusions in mice and patients.
Methods: The distribution of hypoxia in cancer cells floating in ascites was first studied in nude mice.

Psoriasis is a chronic multisystemic inflammatory disease with inflammatory cell infiltration, hyperproliferation of keratinocytes in skin lesions, and epidermal barrier dysfunction. Normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs) were stimulated with interleukin 17A (IL-17A). The expression levels of sirtuin-5 (SIRT5) were analyzed by RT-qPCR and western blot assay.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality rates. E2F2 is an independent predictor of poor prognosis in HCC; however, The mechanism by which E2F2 promotes the progression of HCC remains unclear. The Shentao Ruangan (STR) formula exhibits antitumor efficacy against HCC; however, the underlying antitumor mechanisms remain unknown.

Background: Coronavirus-2019 pandemic in China aroused increasing interest in telemedicine-supported glycaemic control. We hypothesize that age might influence usage and efficacy of telemedicine-supported glycaemic control. This study aims to measure the effects of a doctor-nurse-patient Mobile Health Management System (MHMS) for fasting plasma glucose (FPG) control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Background And Aims: Evidence indicates that serum Klotho concentration is associated with mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, evidence on this association among people with hypertension is scarce. Therefore, we aimed to examine the association between serum Klotho concentration and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in American patients with hypertension.

Precocious puberty (PP) is one of the most common endocrine diseases in children, and the pathogenesis is currently unknown. Recent studies on the gut-brain axis have shown that there is a correlation between childhood endocrine diseases and the gut microbiota (GM). To explore the GM characteristics of children with different types of PP, we recruited 27 idiopathic central precocious puberty children (ICPP group), 18 peripheral precocious puberty children (PPP group), and 23 healthy children of the same age (HC group).

Glioma is the most common malignant primary brain tumor with aggressiveness and poor prognosis. Although extracellular vesicles (EVs)-based cell-to-cell communication mediates glioma progression, the key molecular mediators of this process are still not fully understood. Herein, we elucidated an EVs-mediated transfer of suprabasin (SBSN), leading to the aggressiveness and progression of glioma.

Background: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is attributed to various maternal, fetal, and placental factors. Trophoblasts participate in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy from implantation and placentation to providing nutrition to fetus. Studies have reported that impaired trophoblast invasion and proliferation are among factors driving development of FGR.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has set the goal of eliminating hepatitis as a threat to public health by 2030. Blocking mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is not only the key to eliminating viral hepatitis, but also a hot issue in the field of hepatitis B prevention and treatment. To standardize the clinical management of preventing MTCT of HBV and achieve zero HBV infection among infants, the Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control organized experts to compile a management algorithm for prevention of MTCT of HBV based on the latest research progress and guidelines, including 10 steps of pregnancy management and postpartum follow-up, among which screening, antiviral treatment, and infant immunization are its core components.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is one of the important comorbidities of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). It is critical to find appropriate methods for early diagnosis and objective assessment of mild cognitive impairment patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM-MCI). Our study aimed to investigate potential early alterations in phase lag index (PLI) and determine whether it can distinguish between T2DM-MCI and normal controls with T2DM (T2DM-NC).
