Purpose: To evaluate the morphological behavior of lens epithelial cells (LECs) after human cataract surgery with implantation of a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or silicone intraocular lens (IOL).

Setting: Department of Ophthalmology, Fujita Health University, Banbuntane Hotokukai Hospital, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

Methods: Morphological observations of LECs in the patients with IOLs were made by light and transmission electron microscopy.
