Objective: To investigate whether induction/augmentation of labor in pregnant women with anemia increases the risk of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and whether this risk varied by indications for labor induction/augmentation and by anemia severity in pregnancy.
Methods: In a prospective cohort study of 9420 pregnant women from 13 hospitals across India, we measured hemoglobin concentrations at recruitment (≥28 weeks of gestation) and blood loss after childbirth during follow-up and collected clinical information about PPH. Clinical obstetric and childbirth information at both visits were extracted from medical records.

Background Supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary communication (TAPVC) constitutes a rare congenital cardiac anomaly. Most babies with supracardiac TAPVC are diagnosed in infancy and undergo complete surgical repair during infancy. Delayed presentation of supracardiac TAPVC is rare, and the surgical outcomes are not well known.

Objectives: To investigate the association between coagulation parameters and severity of anaemia (moderate anaemia: haemoglobin (Hb) 7-9.9 g/dL and severe anaemia: Hb <7 g/dL) during pregnancy and relate these to postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) at childbirth.
Design: A prospective cohort study of pregnant women recruited in the third trimester and followed-up after childbirth.

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare and locally aggressive mesenchymal tumour, predominantly occurring in women of reproductive age group. The term aggressive is attributed to the infiltrative nature and frequent local recurrences. They arise commonly from the vulvovaginal region, perineum or pelvis and are usually misdiagnosed as other common entities in these regions.

Oral rehabilitation of partially edentulous arches requires careful treatment planning before any prosthodontic intervention. The connection of the metal framework of fixed (fixed dental prosthesis (FPD)) and removable partial denture using adhesive attachments is a good alternative prosthetic option when solely fixed prosthesis (FPD or implant) cannot be used due to anatomical limitation. Attachments are the tiny interlocking devices that act as a hybrid link to join removable prosthesis to the abutment and direct the masticatory forces along the long axis of the abutment.

Congenital melanocytic nevus is a inborn melanocytic proliferation either present since birth or soon afterward and shows characteristic histopathological features comprising proliferation of benign melanocytes and extension of nevus cells into the deep reticular dermis and subcutis. We report the case of a 35-year-old male patient who presented with a progressively enlarging soft tissue mass in bilateral flank region. High-resolution ultrasound imaging showed multiple lipomatous masses within the soft tissues on the either flank region.

Chronic disease caused by infections, cancer or autoimmunity can result in profound immune suppression. Immunoregulatory networks are established to prevent tissue damage caused by inflammation. Although these immune checkpoints preserve tissue function, they allow pathogens and tumors to persist, and even expand.

A total of 54 Indian patients with visceral leishmaniasis were treated with oral miltefosine, 50 mg given twice daily, for 14 days (18 patients; group A), 21 days (18; group B), or 28 days (18; group C). Cure was achieved in 89% of group A, 100% of group B, and 100% of group C. Adverse reactions were self-limited and primarily mild.

In India, 320 patients with visceral leishmaniasis (209 in the state of Bihar and 11 in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh) received identical pentavalent antimony (Sb) treatment. Sb induced long-term cure in 35% (95% confidence interval [CI], 28%-42%) of those in Bihar versus 86% (95% CI, 79%-93%) of those in Uttar Pradesh. In Bihar, the center of the Indian epidemic, traditional Sb treatment should be abandoned.

Background: There is no effective oral treatment for visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar), a disseminated intracellular protozoal infection that occurs worldwide. Miltefosine, an alkyl phospholipid developed as an oral antineoplastic agent, is active against visceral infection in animal models. We tested safety, tolerance, and efficacy of miltefosine in kala-azar.
