The current effort introduces a facile construction of peony-like CuO:Tb nanostructure (P-L CuO:Tb NS), whose characterization was determined via techniques of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. We investigated ofloxacin, pefloxacin and gatifloxacin oxidation electrochemically on P-L CuO:Tb NS-modified glassy carbon electrode (P-L CuO:Tb NS/GCE), the results of which revealed the irreversible oxidation of drugs through a two-electron oxidation process. An admirable resolution was found for this modified electrode between voltammetric peaks of ofloxacin, pefloxacin and gatifloxacin, suggesting its appropriateness for simultaneous detection of these drugs in pharmaceutical media.

Virol J

December 2022

Department of Microbiology and Virology, School of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran.

Background: Emergence of new variants mainly variants of concerns (VOC) is caused by mutations in main structural proteins of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Therefore, we aimed to investigate the mutations among structural proteins of SARS-CoV-2 globally.

Methods: We analyzed samples of amino-acid sequences (AASs) for envelope (E), membrane (M), nucleocapsid (N), and spike (S) proteins from the declaration of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) as pandemic to January 2022.

Mechanism and function of miR-140 in human cancers: A review and in silico study.

Pathol Res Pract

January 2023

Department of Genetics, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Shahrekord University, Shahrekord, Iran. Electronic address:

MicroRNA-140 (miR-140) acts as a tumor suppressor and plays a vital role in cell biological functions such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and DNA repair. The expression of this miRNA has been shown to be considerably decreased in cancer tissues and cell lines compared with normal adjacent tissues. Consequently, aberrant expression of some miR-140 target genes can lead to the initiation and progression of various human cancers, such as breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, lung cancer, and prostate cancer.

In order to improve product format quality and material flexibility, variety of application, and cost-effectiveness, SiC, ZrO, and Al hybrid composites were manufactured in the research utilizing the powder metallurgy (PM) technique. A model was created to predict the tribological behavior of SiC-ZrO-Al hybrid composites using statistical data analysis and gene expression programming (GEP) based on artificial intelligence. For the purpose of examining the impact of zirconia concentration, sliding distance, and applied stress on the wear behavior of hybrid composites, a comprehensive factor design of experiments was used.

Background: In the last years, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been considered as a useful strategy to treat many diseases such as traumatic brain injury (TBI). The production of inflammatory agents by TBI elicits an inflammatory response directed to other systems of body, such as the heart and the kidneys. In this study, the efficacy of oral mucosal mesenchymal stem cells (OMSCs) prescription after TBI in inflammation and oxidative stress of the heart and kidneys was evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the feeding behaviors of the sand fly Phlebotomus sergenti in Bam County, Iran, which is linked to a case of Anthroponotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
  • Two methods were employed: capturing blood-fed sand flies to identify their blood sources using Multiplex PCR and baiting traps with various animals to observe feeding preferences.
  • Results showed a preference for canine and poultry blood, with the majority of sand flies attracted to chickens, highlighting the role of dogs as primary hosts for this sand fly species.

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have received a lot of attention in the research community due to their unique physical properties, which make them ideal materials for targeted drug delivery systems. In this paper, we describe the synthesis of a non-toxic La-based MOF with 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid (3,4-DHCA) as a linker. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), nitrogen adsorption-desorption measurements, and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) have all been used to characterize it thoroughly.

In this work, Ni-Co layered double hydroxide (Ni-Co LDH) hollow nanostructures were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. A screen-printed electrode (SPE) surface was modified with as-fabricated Ni-Co LDHs to achieve a new sensing platform for determination of sumatriptan. The electrochemical behavior of the Ni-Co LDH-modified SPE (Ni-CO LDH/SPE) for sumatriptan determination was investigated using voltammetric methods.

Heteroresiatnce (HR) is the type of resistance toward one or more antibiotics appearing as a population of the bacterial load consisting of one or more subpopulations with lower antibiotic susceptibility levels than others. Due to the lack of appropriate diagnosis of HR isolates and their importance in resistance emergence to antibiotics, investigating the origins, emergence factors, and HR inhibitors is critical in combating antibiotic resistance. Efflux pumps (EPs) are bacterial systems that own an influential role in acquiring resistance toward anti-bacterial compounds.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common peripheral canalicular nerve entrapment syndrome in the upper extremities. The compression of or injury to the median nerve at the wrist as it passes through a space-limited osteofibrous carpal canal can cause CTS, resulting in hand pain and impaired function. The present paper reviews the literature on the prevalence, pathology, diagnosis, treatment, and risk factors of CTS in conjunction with the role of genetic factors in CTS etiology.

Immunology Research Center, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran; Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran; Research Center for Integrative Medicine in Aging, Aging Research Institute, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz, Iran. Electronic address:

Background: Abnormal function or overexpression of CD73 and EZH2 within the tumor microenvironment and tumor cells enhances tumor growth and progression, and in many cases, causes drug resistance. Hence, it seems that silencing the expression of CD73 and EZH2 molecules in breast cancer reduces cancer development and enhances anti-tumor immune responses.

Methods: we used siRNA-loaded superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIONs) nanoparticles (NPs) coated with trimethyl chitosan (TMC) and functionalized with folic acid for co-delivery of EZH2/CD73 siRNAs to 4 T1 murine cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo.
