Article Synopsis
  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a significant health issue in Bam County, Iran, which is heavily affected by environmental factors; this study explores how these factors influence the disease's distribution.
  • The research analyzed data from 847 CL patients and identified key demographic trends, including a higher prevalence in younger age groups and urban settings, while confirming 66 impacted villages out of 561 surveyed.
  • Results highlighted that urban areas, agricultural land, and certain temperature ranges increased CL risk, whereas higher altitude and other climatic conditions showed a negative correlation with the disease's occurrence.

Recent developments in sequencing technology and analytical approaches have allowed researchers to show that the healthy gut microbiome is very varied and capable of performing a wide range of tasks. The importance of gut microbiota in controlling immunological, neurological, and endocrine function is becoming well-recognized. Thereby, numerous inflammatory diseases, including those that impact the gastrointestinal system, as well as less obvious ones, including Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), cancer, gestational diabetes (GD), type 1 diabetes (T1D), and type 2 diabetes (T2D), have been linked to dysbiotic gut microbiota.

Metabolic syndrome prediction using non-invasive and dietary parameters based on a support vector machine.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

January 2024

Research Center for Food Hygiene and Safety, School of Public Health, Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Yazd, Iran; Department of Nutrition, School of Public Health, Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Yazd, Iran. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a widely used index for finding people at risk for chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Early detection of MetS is especially important in prevention programs. Relying on previous studies that suggest machine learning methods as a valuable approach for diagnosing MetS, this study aimed to develop MetS prediction models based on support vector machine (SVM) algorithms, applying non-invasive and low-cost (NI&LC), and also dietary parameters.

Estimation of Gas Emissions using the LandGEM Model from the Landfill of Baft County, Kerman, Iran.

Environ Monit Assess

November 2023

Department of Environmental Health Engineering, School of Public Health, Bam University of Medical Sciences, Bam, Iran.

Over time, waste buried in landfills produces greenhouse gases (GHG) such as methane (CH) and carbon dioxide (CO). It is essential to know and investigate the type and amount of production of these gases from landfills as well as their effects, considering the environment's vulnerability to GHG. In the present study, the gases released from the landfill of Baft county were estimated using the landfill gas emissions model (LandGEM).

Efferocytosis is characterized as the rapid and efficient process by which dying or dead cells are removed. This type of clearance is initiated via "find-me" signals, and then, carries on by "eat-me" and "don't-eat-me" ones. Efferocytosis has a critical role to play in tissue homeostasis and innate immunity.

One of the most frequent environmental contaminants, benzene is still widely used as an industrial solvent around the world, especially in developing nations, posing a serious occupational risk. While the processes behind the toxicity of benzene grounds are not fully understood, it is generally accepted that its metabolism, which involves one or more reactive metabolites, is crucial to its toxicity. In order to evaluate the many ways that benzene could influence gene regulation and thus have an impact on human health, new methodologies have been created.

Introduction: For centuries, Salvia rosmarinus Spenn has been applied as folk medicine to cure different diseases due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antifungal, and antitumor effects. To find bioactive medicinal herbs exerting a protective effect on airway inflammation and remodeling, we assessed the anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects of an aqueous spray-dried extract of Salvia rosmarinus Spenn. (rosemary) in an ovalbumin-induced asthmatic rat model.

Pemetrexed is an antineoplastic drug used in chemotherapeutic treatments, especially in malignant mesothelioma and non-small cell lung carcinoma, but can also cause a variety of complications, like stomach pain, nausea, burning, vomiting, numbness, and tingling, emphasizing the need for an approach to quantify the drug in biological matrices. Herein, a DNA-based biosensor was introduced for pemetrexed determination. A hydrothermal approach was used for synthesizing flower-like nanoparticles (NPs) of zinc oxide (ZnO) doped with Tb (FL-NP Tb/ZnO).

With the help of a hydrothermal approach in this study, we could provide flower-like nanostructures (NSs) of zinc oxide (ZnO) doped with Tb (FL-NS Tb/ZnO). Then, FL-NS Tb/ZnO morphology was investigated by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and map analysis. The results revealed higher activity centers and porosity of this nanocomposite, which were followed by acceptable electrochemical function.
