Multitissue responses to exercise: a MoTrPAC feasibility study.

We assessed the feasibility of the Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) human adult clinical exercise protocols, while also documenting select cardiovascular, metabolic, and molecular responses to these protocols. We report here the first observation of directed flow (v_{1}) of the hypernuclei _{Λ}^{3}H and _{Λ}^{4}H in mid-central Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=3  GeV at RHIC. These data are taken as part of the beam energy scan program carried out by the STAR experiment. From 165×10^{6} events in 5%-40% centrality, about 8400 _{Λ}^{3}H and 5200 _{Λ}^{4}H candidates are reconstructed through two- and three-body decay channels.

Lotic systems in mountain regions have historically provided secure habitat for native fish populations because of their relative isolation from human settlement and lack of upstream disturbances. However, rivers of mountain ecoregions are currently experiencing heightened levels of disturbance due to the introduction of nonnative species impacting endemic fishes in these areas. We compared the fish assemblages and diets of mountain steppe fishes of the stocked rivers in Wyoming with rivers in northern Mongolia where stocking is absent.

Toehold-Mediated Shape Transition of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles.

We introduce a toehold-mediated strand displacement strategy for regulated shape-switching of nucleic acid nanoparticles (NANPs) enabling their sequential transformation from triangular to hexagonal architectures at isothermal conditions. The successful shape transitions were confirmed by electrophoretic mobility shift assays, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering. Furthermore, implementation of split fluorogenic aptamers allowed for monitoring the individual transitions in real time.

A common mechanism of Sec61 translocon inhibition by small molecules.

The Sec61 complex forms a protein-conducting channel in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane that is required for secretion of soluble proteins and production of many membrane proteins. Several natural and synthetic small molecules specifically inhibit Sec61, generating cellular effects that are useful for therapeutic purposes, but their inhibitory mechanisms remain unclear. Here we present near-atomic-resolution structures of human Sec61 inhibited by a comprehensive panel of structurally distinct small molecules-cotransin, decatransin, apratoxin, ipomoeassin, mycolactone, cyclotriazadisulfonamide and eeyarestatin.

The disruptions to everyday life wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic include distortions in the experience of time, as reported widely by ordinary citizens and observed by journalists and social scientists. But how does this temporal disruption play out in different time scales-in the individual day as opposed to the medium- and long-term futures? And how might influence how individuals experience and understand the pandemic's temporal transformations? This essay examines a range of temporal disruptions reported in day diaries and surveys submitted to the Everyday Life in Middletown project, an online archive that has been documenting ordinary life in Muncie, Indiana, USA since 2016. Viewing these materials as instances of life writing, the essay probes the interactions between temporal disruptions and the local setting as they inflect the autobiographical selves our writers construct in their pandemic writings.

MitoNEET belongs to the CDGSH Iron-Sulfur Domain (CISD)-gene family of proteins and is a [2Fe-2S] cluster-containing protein found on the outer membrane of mitochondria. The specific functions of mitoNEET/CISD1 remain to be fully elucidated, but the protein is involved in regulating mitochondrial bioenergetics in several metabolic diseases. Unfortunately, drug discovery efforts targeting mitoNEET to improve metabolic disorders are hampered by the lack of ligand-binding assays for this mitochondrial protein.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for college faculty, with evidence that it has the potential to exacerbate pre-pandemic gender inequities in work demands (Tugend, 2020). The impact of the pandemic may be particularly difficult for women in male-dominated STEM fields such as computer science that pose additional challenges and had high attrition rates among women faculty pre-pandemic (NSF, 2019; Weisgram & Diekman, 2017). Tobacco regulation has been a major component of health policy in the developed world since the UK Royal College of Physicians' and the US Surgeon General's reports in the 1960s. Such regulation, which has intensified in the past two decades, includes cigarette taxation, place-based smoking bans in areas ranging from bars and restaurants to workplaces, and regulations designed to make tobacco products less desirable. More recently, the availability of alternative products, most notably e-cigarettes, has increased dramatically, and these products are just starting to be regulated.

Outflow tract (OFT) develops from cardiac progenitor cells in the second heart field (SHF) domain. APJ, a G-Protein Coupled Receptor, is expressed by cardiac progenitors in the SHF. By lineage tracing APJ+SHF cells, we show that these cardiac progenitors contribute to the cells of OFT, which eventually give rise to aorta and pulmonary trunk/artery upon its morphogenesis.
