 Indian hospitals (especially government-run public sector hospitals) have a nonexistent antimicrobial stewardship program (AMSP). After successfully initiating AMSPs in tertiary care hospitals of India, the Indian Council of Medical Research envisages implementing AMSP in secondary care hospitals. This study is about the baseline data on antibiotic consumption in secondary care hospitals.

Changing Trends in Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Bloodstream Infection (BSI) in Secondary Care Hospitals of India.

Introduction Bloodstream infection (BSI) and subsequent sepsis are life-threatening medical conditions. The onset of antimicrobial resistance and subsequent multi-drug resistant organisms (MDRO) significantly increase healthcare-associated expenditure with adverse clinical outcomes. The present study was undertaken to identify the trends of BSI in community settings in secondary care hospitals (smaller private hospitals and district hospitals) in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India with the support of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Health Mission, Madhya Pradesh.

Background: Rituximab, one of the most commonly used biologics, was once approved by the United States Food and Drug Association (US FDA) for the management of different systemic autoimmune disorders, and it is now used extensively in managing off-label indications. There is a scarcity of data regarding its utilization pattern in India.

Objective: To assess rituximab usage pattern in two tertiary care hospitals of Central India.

Positive direct antiglobulin tests in cancer patients on immune checkpoint inhibitors: A case series from India.

Tumour cells activate immune checkpoints such as programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) and cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4) signalling pathways to inhibit T lymphocyte activation and thus escape from immune surveillance. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICPis) reactivate T lymphocytes to recognize cancer cells by blocking CTLA-4 or PD-1. Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia is a rare, but often severe, complication of ICPis.

The 'Choosing Wisely 2022' conference, organised by the ecancer foundation, was held at the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India, on 17 and 18 September. It was a successful event with 159 delegates attending it in person and around 328 delegates attending online. Thirty oncology experts from across the world shared their thoughts during this meeting.

Background And Objectives: Conditional survival (CS) provides the probability that a patient who has already survived a certain number of years after treatment will survive an additional number of years. We aim to study the CS of patients with gastric cancer.

Methods: Patients who underwent curative intent treatment for gastric cancer in a single institution between 2007 and 2018 were included in the analysis.

Comparison of hand hygiene compliance among healthcare workers in Intensive care units and wards of COVID-19: A large scale multicentric study in India.

Background: Hand hygiene is a significant component involved in preventing transmission of health care associated infections including COVID-19. Compliance to hand hygiene among the health care workers (HCWs) requires evaluation and timely feedback. "You can't improve what you can't measure" is a famous saying and this multicentric study was designed to measure hand hygiene compliance and have birds eye view on hand hygiene compliance in COVID Intensive care units (ICUs) and wards across India.

Reconstruction of complex oro-mandibular defects by four different modifications of free fibula osteomyocutaneous flap: A prudent alternative to multiple flaps.

Introduction: Resection of advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma results in complex oro-mandibular defects involving external skin, oral mucosa, and bone. Reconstruction of such defects by a single free fibula flap (FFF) is limited by the lack of soft tissue bulk and adequate skin paddle for both intra- and extra-oral coverage. In this study, the reconstruction of large defects was achieved by four modifications of free fibula osteomyocutaneous flap as an alternative to multiple flaps.

Evaluation of Vascular Health of E-Beta Thalassemia Patients: Effect of Iron Overload.

Hb E-β thalassemia is the most common form of hemoglobinopathy in Southeast Asia and eastern India. Iron overload resulting from blood transfusion and increased intestinal iron absorption promotes the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress, organ dysfunction, and tissue damage. Of these, cardiovascular complications are the leading cause of mortality.

Various classifications exist to evaluate the alar rim deformities that are inherited as well as iatrogenic, but occurrence of twin alar rims as a deformity has rarely been reported.

Background: Practice of Unflattened or Flattening filter free (FFF) beam has become the high dose standard in radiotherapy (RT), such as stereotactic radio-surgery (SRS) and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT). The removal of a flattening filter (FF) from the path of a photon beam alters the characteristics of FFF beam. Since the conventional route for dosimetric analysis of FF beam cannot be applied to FFF beam, the procedure of analyzing beam characteristics for FFF beam based on inflection points (IPs) is used.
