The clinical policy of the Emergency Medicine Association of Türkiye (EMAT) provides guidance on the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in emergency settings. TXA, an antifibrinolytic drug, is used to control bleeding by inhibiting plasminogen. Its applications have expanded from hemophilia and severe menstrual bleeding to include various forms of trauma and surgery-related bleeding.

Comparative effectiveness of silver-coated implants in periprosthetic infection prevention: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: Despite the implementation of numerous preventive measures in recent years, the persistent challenge of periprosthetic infections remains. Among the various strategies, metallic modification of implants, particularly with silver, has emerged as a promising avenue. Silver's antimicrobial properties, coupled with its low human toxicity, render it an appealing option.

Definition of a measurement technique for hexapod circular smart fixators' perioperative assembly parameters and investigation of alignment and correlation with postoperative measurements: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: With the assistance of smart fixator technologies, the correction of complex deformities has been facilitated; however, the accurate integration of specialized radiographs and measurements into the system remains the greatest disadvantage, necessitating specialized imaging and an experienced team. When inexperienced technicians and doctors perform these specialized postoperative radiographs, excessive exposure of the patient and team to radioactive rays exacerbates inadequacies in measurements and delays the correction of residual deformities due to angular and translational adjustments. In this study, we compared postoperative measurements with those taken peroperatively via fluoroscopy, hypothesizing that it reduces the exposure of the patient and team to radioactive rays, allows for more accurate and timely correction of deformities and assembly parameters, and reduces time and costs.

Intracranial Masson's Tumor: A Case Report.

This case report presents a unique instance of Masson's tumor, highlighting its atypical presentation and diagnostic challenges. A 19-year-old male patient underwent cranioplasty surgery after presenting with swelling on the frontal scalp. No history of trauma was reported.

Can smartphone cameras help with diagnostic adequacy in renal biopsy?

Background: In this prospective study, we evaluated whether a sufficient number of glomeruli were achieved using the 8× magnification of smartphone cameras.

Purpose: To increase the percutaneous ultrasound-guided renal biopsy (PURB) diagnostic value with a method that has not been tried before and reduce the need for repetition of the procedure.

Material And Methods: A total of 39 adult patients who underwent PURB were included in our study.

The effectiveness of liver function tests in the prediction of mortality in patients with COVID-19.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of liver function test abnormalities on mortality in critically ill coronavirus disease- 2019 patients.

Methods: The single-centre, retrospective study was conducted at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation, Mersin City Training and Research Hospital, Turkiye, and comprised data from March 2020 to January 2022 of patients with positive real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test on nasopharyngeal swab sample for coronavirus disease-2019. Comorbidities, demographic data, admission to and discharge from the intensive care unit, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II scores, complete blood count on the first and second day of hospitalisation, coagulation parameters, biochemical analysis, 7-day, 28-day and total mortality of the patients in the intensive care unit were recorded.

Background: Malignancy in pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) is rare, with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) being the most common type. This study aims to assess the incidence of malignancy in PSD and identify risk factors to guide more targeted pathological examination strategies.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 1505 patients who underwent surgical excision of PSD between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2023.

Palliative care pertains to the holistic multidimensional concept of "patient-centred" care. It is an interprofessional specialty, primarily aiming to improve quality of care for cancer patients and their families, from the time of diagnosis of malignant disease, over the continuum of cancer care, and extending after the patient's death to the period of bereavement to support the patient's family. There are various complex and frequently unmet needs of lung cancer patients and their families/caregivers, not only physical but also psychological, social, spiritual and cultural.

Background: The Internet has transformed global information access, particularly through platforms like YouTube, which launched in 1995 and has since become the second largest search engine worldwide with over two billion monthly users. While YouTube offers extensive educational content, including health topics like cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support (BLS), it also poses risks due to potential misinformation. Our study focuses on evaluating the accuracy of CPR and BLS videos on YouTube according to the latest 2020 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been seen in COVID-19-infected subjects, and it has frequently resulted in an abnormal estimated glomerular filtration rate. Colchicine, an immunomodulatory drug, was used in several studies in the early stages of the pandemic.

A descriptive analysis of 21 patients with pulmonary amyloidosis: An observational study.

Pulmonary amyloidosis is an extremely rare disease, often detected incidentally because of its asymptomatic nature and potential to result in fatal outcomes. In this study, we aimed to present the clinical and radiological features of patients diagnosed with pulmonary amyloidosis by biopsy. This descriptive study included 21 patients with pathologically diagnosed pulmonary amyloidosis.

Amelioration of propionic acid-induced autism-like behaviors in rats by fenofibrate: A focus on reduction of brain galectin-3 levels.

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interactions and repetitive behaviors. This study examines the effects of fenofibrate on a propionic acid (PPA)-induced rat model of ASD, focusing on behavioral changes, inflammatory markers, and histological findings.

Materials And Methods: Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: a control group, a group receiving PPA and saline, and a group treated with PPA and fenofibrate for 15 days.

Objective: Mechanisms of sleep disorders in fibromyalgia (FM) patients, such as insomnia, early morning awakenings and poor quality sleep, have not yet been proven and no consistent and effective treatment is yet available. The aim of this study was to investigate the pineal gland volume and the relationship between total fibre count, total fibre volume and total fibre length of the spinoreticular tract involved in regulation of sleep and wakefulness in terms of the mechanism of sleep disturbance.

Methods: This study included only female cases, 31 with fibromyalgia and 31 controls.

Infection control measures may be disrupted by inter- or intra-hospital transfers after major disasters. We report the possible outbreak and prevention of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus spp. (VRE) strains carried by infants transferred to our neonatal intensive care unit from another unit after the earthquake.

Eating increases disease activity in pediatric patients with symptomatic dermographism.

Symptomatic dermographism (SD) is the most common form of chronic inducible urticaria. SD disease activity increases with food intake in adult patients. Whether this is also so in children with SD is currently unknown.
