Evolving role of pediatric nurse practitioners.

Purpose: To report and interpret findings from national pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) job analysis surveys reflecting the changes in the knowledge and skills required for advanced practice.

Data Sources: National role delineation studies (RDS) conducted by American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2003, 2008, and 2011.

Conclusions: Since the first nurse practitioner (NP) program was established in 1965 to train pediatric nurses for advanced practice, the role of the PNP has continued to develop.

Making a difference with combined community assessment and change projects.

Nursing students value projects that enable them to make a difference in the lives of others. Two major group projects, assessment of an identified community and completion of a leadership change project, required during their last semester were combined to provide a meaningful experience for students. Purpose: To explore asthma symptom perception and the relationship between asthma symptom perception and adherence to asthma treatment.

Design: Adult patients (N=120) of asthma/allergy specialty clinics, taking Advair as a controller medication, were enrolled in this cross-sectional descriptive study.

Methods: Ninety-seven participants completed 4 weeks of daily diaries to assess subjective symptom perception and measured peak expiratory flow rates (PEFR), both done twice daily.
