Single-Surgeon Experience and Complications of a Fixed-Bearing Total Ankle Arthroplasty.

Foot Ankle Int

January 2018

1 Beaumont Health System, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Royal Oak, MI, USA.

Background: Total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) has historically resulted in inferior survivorship rates compared with total hip and knee arthroplasty, because of technical issues unique to ankle anatomy. In this study, a single-surgeon series of intra- and postoperative complications as well as resultant reoperations/revisions of the Tornier Salto Talaris, a fixed-bearing TAA prosthesis, were reviewed.

Methods: Medical records from index procedure to latest follow-up of primary TAA were reviewed.

Organoids made from dissociated progenitor cells undergo tissue-like organization. This in vitro self-organization process is not identical to embryonic organ formation, but it achieves a similar phenotype in vivo. This implies genetic codes do not specify morphology directly; instead, complex tissue architectures may be achieved through several intermediate layers of cross talk between genetic information and biophysical processes.

October 2018

Klinika Reumatologii I Układowych Chorób Tkanki Łącznej, Uniwersytet Medyczny, Lublin, Polska.

Radiosynoviorthesis is used for local treatment of recurrent joint effusions, leads to necrosis of inflamed synovium due to beta radiation energy served after intraarticular radionuclide administration. The aim of the therapy is destruction and fibrosis of abnormal, hypertrophic synovial membrane and then full recovery of its normal function after local corticosteroids and systemic modifying drugs failure. Radiosynoviorthesis is effective in different type of peripheral arthritis like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory spondyloarthtropaties, gout, chondrocalcinosis, pigmented villo-nodular synovitis, recurrent knee effusion after total joint replacement, idiopathic knee joint effusion, osteoarthritis and secondary prevention of intraarticular bleeding in haemophilia.

Posterior knee approaches are reliable techniques to address the treatment of various pathologies of the posterior region of the knee, including Baker cyst excision, tibial plateau fracture fixation, posterior cruciate ligament avulsions and inlay reconstructions, femoral condyle cartilage procedures, posterior meniscal repair and loose body removal among others. Surgery in the posterior knee region can be challenging because of the presence of neurovascular structures including the tibial nerve, popliteal artery and vein, and common peroneal nerve; thus, it is less commonly performed. The purpose of this Technical Note is to describe the posteromedial approach to the knee, its anatomic considerations, and how to avoid complications related to the surgical approach.
