It is known that elevated serum homocysteine, decreased folate, and low vitamin B12 serum levels are associated with poor cognitive function, cognitive decline, and dementia. Current literature shows that some psychiatric disorders, mainly affective and psychotic ones, can be related to the levels of vitamin B12, folate, and homocysteine. These results can be explained by the importance of vitamin B12, folate, and homocysteine in carbon transfer metabolism (methylation), which is required for the production of serotonin as well as for other monoamine neurotransmitters and catecholamines.

Objective: To assess the impact of the disease stage and therapy on motor cortical excitability in Parkinson's disease (PD).
Methods: Twenty newly diagnosed and medication-free, early stage patients, 20 late stage patients under antiparkinsonian therapy and 20 normal healthy controls were included. Motor threshold (MT), amplitudes of motor evoked potential (MEP), motor evoked potential amplitude/compound muscle action potential amplitude (MEP/CMAP) ratio, central motor conduction time (CMCT) and cortical silent period (CSP) were measured by stimulation of the motor cortex using a 13.

The factors responsible for the association between schizophrenia and violence with or without co-occurring substance abuse have not been fully elucidated. The present study had two aims: (1) ascertain whether substance abuse augments the risk for violence in patients with schizophrenia; and, (2) determine whether violence is differentially related to positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. A sample of 133 adults were participated in this study.

Methods: Thirty-four euthymic women with treatment-responsive BD on mood-stabilizers (lithium and/or valproate) for at least 6 months and 35 control subjects with no history of medical/mental disorder between ages of 18 and 35 years with regular menstrual cycles were prospectively followed up for at least two consecutive menstrual cycles using the Daily Record of Severity of Problems-Short Form (DRSP). Each subject was administered the retrospective self-report questionnaire, Premenstrual Assessment Form (PAF), in the first postmenstrual phase of the menstrual cycle.
