Maintenance therapy with a combination of azacitidine, danazol, and thalidomide after intensive chemotherapy in patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Hematology

December 2023

State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, National Clinical Research Center for Blood Diseases, Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Tianjin, People's Republic of China.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of azacitidine (AZA) combined with danazol (DNZ) and thalidomide (THD) maintenance therapy after intensive chemotherapy (IC) in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Methods: we retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 11 patients treated with AZA combined with DNZ and THD as maintenance therapy after IC at the Baiyun Hospital were between February 2017 and March 2021. The patients' clinical features, relapse-free survival (RFS), and overall survival (OS) were analyzed.

Venetoclax combined with daunorubicin and cytarabine (2 + 6) as induction treatment in adults with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia: a phase 2, multicenter, single-arm trial.

State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Blood Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Tianjin, China.

Background: Venetoclax (Ven) combined with intensive chemotherapy was proven effective in the management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the severe and prolonged myelosuppression remains a concern to worry about. To explore more appropriate combination regimens, we designed Ven combining daunorubicin and cytarabine (DA 2 + 6) regimen as induction therapy, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety in adults de novo AML.

Objective: To construct cytarabine-resistant acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines, and explore the correlation between Sirt1, PGC-1α expression levels and drug resistance.

Methods: Human acute promyelocytic leukemia Kasumi-1 cells were induced by the method of gradually increasing the concentration of Ara-C drug. The IC value of Kasumi-1 cells before and after drug addition was detected by CCK-8 method, so as to construct Ara-C resistant cell lines.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignancy in the world, with high mortality and poor prognosis. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is one of the key factors implicated in the occurrence of HCC. Increasing evidence suggests that miRNAs play important roles in the development and metastasis of HBV-associated HCC (HBV-HCC).

To assess the accuracy of the STOP-Bang questionnaire(SBQ) about screening for obstructive sleep apnea(OSA) in adults, and to establish appropriate cutoffs for body mass index(BMI), neck circumference(NC), age, and SBQ score for this population in combination with the body size characteristics of the study subjects, and to evaluate the accuracy of the SBQ for combined screening with waist to height ratio(WHtR). The data were collected from October, 2019 to November, 2020 at the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, and 218 patients with suspicious OSA were included in this study, all of them completed the SBQ and underwent overnight PSG. SBQ screening and PSG were tested in a blinded concurrent manner.

General anesthesia has a great impact on neurodevelopment. However, the mechanisms underlying this effect and therapeutic methods to address it remain limited. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of compound (C)21, a non‑peptide angiotensin II type 2 receptor agonist, on general anesthesia‑induced cerebral injury in neonatal rats.

Background: Obesity is a well-established risk factor for atherosclerosis. However, it is unknown which measure of adiposity best relates to atherosclerosis in relatively lean maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. We aimed to explore and compare the associations between different adiposity indices reflecting general, abdominal, visceral adiposity and arteriosclerosis risk with atherogenic index of plasma(AIP) in relatively lean MHD patients.

Understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis is important to develop effective therapy. Herein, we show that focal-adhesion-kinse (FAK) plays a key role in promoting hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation in vitro and liver fibrosis progression in vivo. FAK activation is associated with increased expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and collagen in fibrotic live tissues.

The prevalence of infection by different genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) varies among different geographic areas. We studied the prevalence of infection by 21 HPV genotypes in cervical tissue specimens from 4213 women in the Guiyang district, that is located in the southwest of China and is dominated by minor ethnicities of Chinese, and 2074 cases in our cohort had pathological diagnosis available. The overall infection rate was 36.

Establishment of a Simple and Quick Method for Detecting Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL) Genes in Bacteria.

Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) genes that render bacteria resistant to antibiotics are commonly detected using phenotype testing, which is time consuming and not sufficiently accurate. To establish a better method, we used phenotype testing to identify ESBL-positive bacterial strains and conducted PCR to screen for TEM (named after the patient Temoneira who provided the first sample), sulfhydryl reagent variable (SHV), cefotaxime (CTX)-M-1, and CTX-M-9, the 4 most common ESBL types and subtypes. We then performed multiplex PCR with 1 primer containing a biotin and hybridized the PCR products with gene-specific probes that were coupled with microbeads and coated with a specific fluorescence.
