Objective: This study analyzed the trend, seasonal variations and forecasting of chronic respiratory disease morbidity in charcoal producing areas, northwest Ethiopia, aiming to provide evidences in planning, designing strategies, and decision-makings for preparedness and resource allocation to prevent CRD and reduce public health burden in the future.
Materials And Methods: The trend, seasonal variation, and forecasting for CRD were estimated using data collected from the three zones of Amhara region annual reports of DHIS2 records. Smoothing decomposition analysis was employed to demonstrate the trend and seasonal component of CRD.

Introduction: National malaria programmes must weigh the relative benefits of different vector control and elimination tools to prioritise resource allocation with the greatest impact. This study assesses the epidemiological and entomological impacts of piperonyl butoxide insecticide-treated nets (PBO ITN-only arm) compared with the combination of two annual non-pyrethroid indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns and standard pyrethroid ITNs (IRS+Standard Pyrethroid ITN arm) in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Methods: An open-label, stratified block-cluster randomised trial was designed to compare the impacts of the two intervention arms.

DFT calculations were performed to investigate the possible reaction mechanisms underlying catalyst-free chloroboration reactions of carbonyl compounds with BCl. The interaction between BCl and the C[double bond, length as m-dash]O moiety of carbonyl compounds is a two-step reaction. In the first step, B of BCl forms a bond with the O of the C[double bond, length as m-dash]O moiety, followed by the 1,3-Cl migration process from BCl to the C of the carbonyl group.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) in pregnant women can lead to pyelonephritis and preterm birth. We assessed UTI prevalence, etiology, antimicrobial resistance, and associated risk factors among pregnant women receiving antenatal care in rural Amhara, Ethiopia. 604 pregnant women were screened for UTI at ≤ 24 weeks gestational age from August 2020 to June 2022.

Isoleucic acid (ILA) was identified in human patients with maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) half a century ago. MSUD patients, who are defective in the catabolism of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), that is, isoleucine, leucine, and valine, have urine with a unique maple syrup odour related to the accumulation of BCAA breakdown products, largely 2-keto acid derivatives and their reduced 2-hydroxy acids including ILA. A decade ago, ILA was identified in Arabidopsis thaliana.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 continues to pose a major challenge to global health. Targeting the main protease of the virus (Mpro), which is essential for viral replication and transcription, offers a promising approach for therapeutic intervention. In this study, advanced computational techniques such as molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were used to screen a series of antiviral compounds for their potential inhibitory effect on the SARS-CoV-2 Mpro.

Biointerface sensing is a cutting-edge interdisciplinary field that merges conceptual and practical aspects. Wearable bioelectronics enable efficient interaction and close contact with biological components such as tissues and organs, paving the way for a wide range of medical applications, including personal health monitoring and medical intervention. To be applicable in real-world settings, the patches must be stable and adhere to the skin without causing discomfort or allergies in both wet and dry conditions, as well as other desirable features such as being ultra-soft, thin, flexible, and stretchable.

Introduction: Childhood vaccinations are crucial in safeguarding children from infectious diseases and are recognized as one of the most cost-effective public health interventions. However, children in East African countries face more than a fifteen-fold increased risk of death from vaccine-preventable diseases compared to those in high-income nations. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing childhood immunization status in East Africa.

Introduction: Lactation is the critical time for meeting the nutritional demands of mothers and infants. Mothers from low-income countries, including Ethiopia, are considered nutritionally vulnerable. Good dietary practices for mothers during lactation are therefore important for the good health of their children.

Background: People who face restricted or uncertain physical and economic access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food to suit their dietary needs or food choices for a productive, healthy, and active life are said to be in a state or situation of food insecurity. There is a dearth of evidence of individual and community-level factors associated with household-level food insecurity in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess individual and community-level factors associated with household-level food insecurity to fill the aforementioned gap.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has imposed substantial challenges on our society due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This virus relies heavily on its surface glycoprotein (S-glycoprotein) to facilitate attachment, fusion, and entry into host cells. While the nucleoprotein (N) in the ribonucleoprotein core binds to the viral RNA genome.

Introduction: Collagen is essential for maintaining lung structure and function and its remodeling has been associated with respiratory diseases including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the cellular mechanisms driving collagen remodeling and the functional implications of this process in the pathophysiology of pulmonary diseases remain poorly understood.
Methods: To address this question, we employed ; mice with specific depletion of Lyve-1 macrophages and assessed the content, types and organization of collagen in lung compartments at steady state and after chronic exposure to cigarette smoke (CS).

Introduction: Several reviews have highlighted that the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) is the best diagnostic tool for assessing nutritional status in cancer patients. However, previous meta-analyses summarizing the prevalence of malnutrition and overall survival in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer are quite limited. This study aims to determine the overall prevalence and association between malnutrition, as defined by the PG-SGA, and mortality in adults with GI cancer.
